Be English. That's it.

Bang average player and I have no idea what they see in him.

And from what I understand, he doesn’t qualify as “homegrown” despite being an English international. Not that you should sign someone purely for homegrown status or not, but it’s still an odd one to try and understand for now.

He was pretty cooked when he left. He may have saved us a fair amount of money in big wages by leaving.

Main man at Arsenal, absolute joke at utd.

As long as it doesn’t impact the ability to acquire Eze AND Gyokeres, I can see the rationale.

Trossard it seems has interest from Fenerbache in Turkey. So it doesn’t make sense to refresh and renew in the forward group, especially to protect Saka, however it’s not exactly “back up” pricing. Chelsea have done well as they usually do with the selling fees they generate.

Yeah, I wasn't sure of the rationale behind signing Madueke initially, but the more I read about what he brings, the more I liked the recruitment. He is an upgrade on Trossard. He will challenge Martinelli and is an able back up to Saka. £52m is fair.

I don't think it impacts signing Eze and Gyokeres. But I doubt Rodrygo will happen now.

🚨Fenerbahce have reached an agreement with Leandro Trossard on personal terms.

The Turkish club continue to negotiate with Arsenal regarding the transfer fee but the feeling is positive.

Is he an upgrade on Trossard though? Genuine question. I haven’t seen enough to know really. From what I understand most of his starts have been on the right. I read a stat that on his 7 starts on the left for Chelsea last season he hasn’t registered any goals or assists.

So if Arteta sees something in him as a LW option, that’s fine. However at this stage of Arsenal I’m not sure the capacity we have for another “project” style signing, especially with the price tag that is very much in the vicinity of the likes of Mbuemo, Kudus and so on.

Again, time will tell especially if we land Eze and Gyokeres. Until then am just a bit lukewarm about the whole thing.

I think he's an upgrade on Trossard in the way a 23 year old footballer will continue to develop and a 30 year old footballer begins to decline. I thought Trossard was average last season.

If we had signed Madueke from anyone other than Chelsea would there be all this hooplah about it?

Yes Trossard’s numbers dried up last season and it probably is the time now if a good offer comes to the table. He’s been an excellent signing. However totally understand if he’s now seeking that large contract at this stage of his career, that generational wealth style contract that he can get elsewhere.

I’d stop short of saying Madueke is an upgrade though because I can’t see how at this point in time. At £52m I think he’s more than a “back up” to Saka, and it would be an odd career move from him to come to Arsenal if so. Arteta usually sells his vision to each player prior to their signing, so I guess I’m cautious if he’s being earmarked as the wide left option that Arsenal are seeking.

Time will tell of course. Signing Eze in addition would allay much of that. As a forward group of Gyokeres, Eze and Madueke in makes much more sense in the broader context.

Madueke will be much needed cover for Saka on the right, assuming they see Nwaneri as a 10 going forward so shouldn't impact his minutes as he'll be sharing with Odegaard, who should be on notice after a poor season. 52m is a huge fee for bench depth, not thrilled about the price we've paid but he's our player now so I hope he does well.

If Trossard is on the way out, we have to bring in Eze or Rodrygo. Going into a campaign with Martinelli as our only option on the left would be disastrous.

If we bring in Eze and Gyokeres to round out the window, that would be a hugely successful summer for us and should see us cherry ripe to take that next step and bring in some major silverware. We've finished 2nd 3 years running, we need to win the thing this year.

No more excuses, it's time to put up or shut up. Another trophyless season and serious questions need to be asked of Mikel.

Madueke looks like he doesn’t know what he wants to do when he's dribbling the ball - he reminds me of Gervinho in that regard.

It will also be a bit of a change of pace to the fairly rigid style we play, so it will hopefully catch defences off guard.

We're cooking...

Mosquera looks to be on this week as well. Nwaneri contract talks are positive.

Hopefully most of the squad is in place for the Asian tour.

Reckon a few sales need to occur before the Eze deal is completed.

Hope the Madueke doomsdayers can return to their boxes now...

The more that comes out about the Gyokeres transaction, the more it centres around his agents. Clearly they don’t have a good relationship with the Sporting’s president and whatever payday they were seeking has rubbed him the wrong way.

That’s quite a decent deal there on paper for Arsenal when you strip out the agents commission, that’s around £58m + £8m add ons. How he fares though remains to be seen, but at least the saga can hopefully be finalised on time and he’s on board with the squad on their flight to Singapore later this week.
