I think I saw a stat that we were 17th in the league for goals from open play. Need to improve on this aspect I think as set pieces all year surely can’t be sustainable.
I believe we rank high for shots per game... I think about the disallowed Calafiori goal against Fulham and reckon teams should be thankful we're not nailing our chances...

It's probably not sustainable, but when teams play 11 men behind the ball, scoring from open play is difficult. Even Pep's Man City played that way against us.

Also missing Ode, Havertz and Madueke hurts.

If teams want to come out and play against us, it might be a different story.

Surely that will improves once Odegaard, Madueke and Havertz are back. Gyokores battles and has been struggling for a while (two arsey goals aside), he could do with a rest.

Teams will struggle with the physicality of both Gyokores and swole-Havertz.

Odegaard was looking so dangerous in the brief snippets he got to play. Having him (available and) in form unlocks so much for us.

Eze and Gyokores are still gelling too. There is plenty of improvements left when it comes to our attacking play.

Gabriel is like a cheat code at corners. Somehow always get his head to the ball. Could be the highest scoring defender by the time he finishes
Still a bit concerned with Gyok. Works hard but is so clumsy, reminds of Yaya Sanogo sometimes

Absolutely. I know it’s not easy for us to find space. Even when we try and bait the press, teams don’t seem to bite. Just won’t be surprised if there ends up being more games we draw because we can’t unlock them with set pieces all the time.

Hopefully Madueke helps with that, given his unpredictability and mazy-dribbling.

I could see us trying some bully-ball with both Gyokores and Havertz up top, trying to manhandle defences.

It’s very rare teams actually come to play against Arsenal. On the times they do, they can end up being slapped around. Contrast the 7-1 against PSV, where they played high and were demolished, to the way PSG then set up.

Arsenal enjoy so much set piece success largely due to the fact that teams park the bus, in a way they’re afraid of what Arsenal can do, so instead revert to deep blocks. Even Pep did it, never has he had such a low % of possession in his long managerial career than against Arsenal. This is the nature of the current game, and I for one love the ruthless nature of Arsenal to find every margin possible to get the job done.

Everything from the quality of the delivery by Rice or Saka, to the beast mode of Gabriel monstering multiple defenders to get the ball, this is not luck. It’s a skill in its own form and it’s quite amusing to watch the narrative unfold.

For so long, Arsenal were undone by set pieces at the back, the long throws of Delap against Stoke spring to mind. The narrative is that Arsenal can only score skilful team goals and why can’t we defend set pieces etc etc. And now, how the tables have turned.

I have genuinely never seen a table put out like this, but football coverage is so heavily saturated that they gotta find something to talk about. ā€œIf you removed 9 goals from Arsenal then they’d only be 3 points from first placeā€ ****ing gold :D

Pretty average performance though - but bank the win, especially when the other results went in our favor!
This is a huge issue that's been addressed.

Multiple times in seasons gone by, when our title rivals slipped up we would regularly fail to capitalise. It was incredibly frustrating.

Watched replay of El Clasico. Mbappe takes a penalty which is saved by
Szczesny who I thought retired.
On loan?
Pretty sure he announced his retirement but they convinced him to go around again due to a serious relationship breakdown between Barca and Ter Stegen

Yes he did retire albeit temporarily, and clearly he’s still got it since being signed by Barcelona. That was an excellent save from the Mbappe penalty.

I will always remember fondly that double save at Anfield from the penalty spot. Great moment for him. A shame how it ended at Arsenal, not sure if it was ever confirmed or not however it seemed to centre around Wenger busting him smoking in the dressing rooms after a loss. It went downhill from there.

That was the moment that made me an Arsenal fan.

11 year old me had just recently moved to Perth after growing up in country WA. Had no interest in the roundball being from 'up north', the only sports teams that got a mention up there were the Eagles and Dockers.

In Perth I went to a school with a lot of kids from English and Italian backgrounds, naturally ended up getting exposed to football more and more. One day I was scrolling through my Telstra TV and Arsenal TV was on.

Watched Szczensy make that double save off a dirty Suarez dive and I was hooked.

Do you watch games with the Arsenal fan club here?

It’s flown under the radar a bit, however there seems to be some concern about the injuries to Saliba and Martinelli. Both have been ruled out and in Martinelli’s case it’s likely a few weeks (looks a muscular injury).

In addition to Odegaard, Madueke, Havertz, Jesus etc there’s going to be some players involved tomorrow morning who I otherwise would’ve wanted nowhere near this match. Probably Gyokeres, Saka, Rice, Trossard, Zubimendi will need to feature in some form. I don’t think Arteta will start Dowman however I hope he gets half an hour or so in the second half.

Kepa
White Mosquera Hincapie MLS
Norgaard
Nwaneri ?
? Merino ?

Couple of question marks there, not sure if any other academy kids are in the frame at the moment. Would be awesome to see Dowman start however not sure Arteta will do it just yet.

White has had a setback

As well as those who were involved at the weekend, the boss also spoke on Ben White's fitness after the defender suffered a setback in his recovery. "He had a setback and that hasn't helped.
Arsenal.com

I read the full quotes here, and to me he’s more so referring to prior setbacks for White during pre season and in recent weeks. Didn’t get the sense there’s a current setback, he’s been available in the matchday squads the last few games.
