I’m surprised there hasn’t been more interest generated for Balogun as yet.

I don't get it. Plenty of teams in that Villa, West Ham, Brighton group have plenty of cash, he's homegrown, and a track record. If he had sat in the Liverpool reserves without a senior appearance they would probably offer £50m for him.

The more I think about the Raya move, the more I don't like. Ramsdale needs competition, but I would much rather it come from someone younger with potential, but who needs to earn his place. Every Ramsdale mistake is going analysed and picked apart, and if Ramsdale maintains form we run the risk of leaving our best keeper on the bench for crucial cup games to keep Raya as the second choice happy.

I hated the periods with Fabianski or Szczesny, Szczesny or Ospina, Martinez or Leno. Just unnecessary drama.

The Raya signing elevates the strength of the squad. At what cost though. Arteta has carefully curated a squad that is united and harmonious, that’s palpable in watching Arsenal in recent years. I wonder what this signing will do to the squad dynamics, Ramsdale is very popular and can’t help but ponder what will happen.

A few times in prior seasons years when Arteta signs someone, you see why. Even though I didn’t think there was anything necessarily wrong with the previous bloke, I then see the new one in action and I think “holy shit this what we were missing all along”. Tierney to Zinchenko being one example. Even Leno to Ramsdale before that.

Raya is quality, Arteta usually gets who he wants. Even if it takes time. He wanted Jorginho a few years ago. And wanted Raya prior to signing Ramsdale.

Just some crystal ball speculation here that I guess I might revisit in 12 months time. I worry for Ramsdale on this one. He would know that Arteta has been a long term suitor for Raya. He’d know how close Raya is to Inaki Cana from their Brentford days (who somehow still has quite the influence on this stuff despite falling out with Martinez and then Leno, and recommending Runarrson as they’d worked together before).

Two top keepers vying for the number one spot usually a short term thing. I’d imagine this would come to a head this time next year, and I wonder which of the two of them is going to end up dissatisfied/disgruntled with playing time this season to then seek a move elsewhere next summer.

However I could be completely wrong. Ramsdale is wired in a unique way and he could absolutely thrive on this, proving people wrong etc. Let’s see what happens.

I think the £10m for Turner includes add ons etc. Base fee supposedly around the £7m mark. Fair enough considering he hasn’t actually started a PL match for (if what I read was correct).

With so many PL clubs needing strikers, I’m surprised there hasn’t been more interest generated for Balogun as yet. Most of the interest/offers (that seem to have been knocked back) are across the continent, who don’t have the financial power that the PL clubs do.

Nottingham Forest have signed goalkeeper Matt Turner from Arsenal with the United States international signing a four-year deal, the two clubs announced on Wednesday.

No financial details were given but British media said Forest will pay seven million pounds ($8.92 million) for Turner plus three million in performance-related add-ons.

Let's hope he does well 😜 not this Saturday but.

The more I think of this, the more I love it.

Arsenal watch this summer as Brentford slap a £40m price tag on Raya.

He snubs Spurs. Snubs United. Amongst others. All whilst Arsenal would’ve been quietly observing from the background.

Arteta likely in dialogue with him. Raya probably only had his sights set on Arsenal, hence rejections of the other advances.

Arsenal watch as the weeks tick over, Brentford sign a new number 1. Other clubs find alternatives. The number of suitors for Raya dwindle, Brentford know time is of the essence with the window closure a few weeks away and only 12 months on his contract.

Then Arsenal have pounced. That’s a cracking structure to the deal. £3m for a keeper of that calibre, holy shit. That’s ****ing brilliant. Try before you buy. 12 months to assess all of the above in terms of squad dynamics, competition, attitude etc etc.

And even with his option to buy at £27m, that’s still fantastic value. No obligation. It’s an option. Arsenal’s squad strength significantly increased with the exit of Turner and arrival of Raya. For £3m.

Edu has played a ****ing blinder here. Outstanding work by Arsenal. Holy shit.

Arsenal are considering offering Balogun and Japan full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu, 24, to Inter Milan in exchange for their Italian midfielder Nicolo Barella, 26. (Calciomercato - in Italian)

It's obviously to help with FFP, but holy s**t, Edu. Make a profit to upgrade our keeper this season, only have to pay 27m next season if it works out. This window has been amazing. If we somehow end up with a RW, it'll be 11/10.

It’s hard for me to rate our overall window as yet as there’s still plenty of work to do in the remaining weeks with outgoing players. Trimming the squad down is essential, we all know the players in question.

In terms of incomings though, holy shit. As good as can be expected in those areas of the pitch. Timber for example is sublime in what I’ve seen so far.

We’ve expanded that squad depth out to the 16-17 genuine options. Arteta is going for it, he’s gunning to win. He has clearly convinced the owners the time is now and he continues to be supported in turn, brilliant stuff.

Oh hell, I'd take that swap in a heartbeat. Barella is quality.

Tomiyasu is the perfect utility defender, he can play any position in the back four. I'd hate to lose him, but in fairness to him he's too good to be essentially 3rd choice LB/RB/CB.

Wow.

Getting Rice done, and early, always looked a good move. This establishes it as genius. Caicedo is great, but is younger and has played a fraction of the games Rice has. Rice a club captain, first choice for England, proven durability. No way Caicedo is worth more.

I hope we at least put in a bid to jack up the price

That’s a monster fee, for a fantastic player. Wow. I guess this is why the Rice/Caicedo double was never really realistic for Arsenal. Whatever Rice was acquired for they would’ve used as the benchmark (and then some) for Caicedo.

Very happy we secured Rice early. Can you imagine the exorbitant fee WH would have asked for after seeing Caicedo go for 110m? Would have asked for 120m+.
That deal just fell over. Lol.

Quite the saga to see unfold. Holy crap.

Just underlines the significance of getting key business done early. Havertz, Rice and Timber were all sealed and ready to be integrated prior to that plane leaving for pre season.

Hopefully that helps us get a solid start to the season

Still can't believe no one has bought Balogun, I mean the rabble down the street need a striker, but I'd be taking most of that 100m for him. ;)

Glad to see we keep Charlie, hopefully he has an amazing year at Swansea and comes back in that LCM role
