My point is, you said Kerrea Gilbert is there for backup, when he is not even there at all

You've not heard of recall clauses? If there were injuries to Eboue, Lauren, Hoyte, Gallas and Toure than we'd recall Gilbert from Cardiff.

In any event I was talking about Gilbert in a broader, long-term sense. Great young prospect.

If I was Arsene Wenger, I would talk to Liverpool about Chris Kirkland, he's behind Reina, Dudek & Carson.. I know he's injury prone, but there is no doubting that he is a class keeper, and given he can keep fit, could be in goal for Arsenal for upwards of 10 years, and will fight with Scott Carson for the England job in years to come.

I thought he was sold to Wigan, was it a loan deal?

Anyway, I'd rather many before Almunia. When Lehmann got smashed in the face and I saw Almunia warming up, I was going to puke.

Kirkland is ridiculously over rated, when Liverpool had that stretch of without a win for 8 games he played in 7 of them. Very very over rated.

Then again he is from England.

Better than Almunia :D

Garcia is better at the moment, because, he has proven that he can play in England, and well in Europe, Rosicky has not done anything in England yet, plus the fact, that he doesnt play for Liverpool, makes Garcia a lot better.

Kirkland's not any better than Almunia. Both are rubbish.

I wouldn't want either as the future #1 once the mad one goes anyway. Neither is good enough to be the #1 for a team who wants to win the league and Champions League, are they?

I'd go as far as saying Almunia was at fault for both Barca goals in the CL final, he was nothing spectacular before that, but they'd have both probably been relatively easy saves for the mad one.

Real make plans for Reyes
By Mark Buckingham - Created on 22 Sep 2006

Real Madrid are hoping to keep Jose Antonio Reyes on a long-term basis.

The Spain international moved to the Bernabeu before the close of the transfer window from Arsenal in a swap deal involving Julio Baptista.

The moves are initially for a season, but Real president Ramon Calderon outlined the intention for Reyes to stay for several years.

"I think Reyes is going to stay here forever," Calderon told Sky Sports News.

"My idea is to sign a contract for six or seven years."

Calderon revealed that both clubs have agreed on a fee should Reyes or Baptista remain at their new teams on a permanent basis.

But the Real supremo admitted he is unsure what coach Fabio Capello has in mind for the future of Brazilian ace Baptista.

He added: "It's true, at that time (of concluding the deals), it was very difficult to decide what to do because Baptista wanted to leave Real and Reyes wanted to leave Arsenal.

"We did that at the last minute and did that in a way with the loan, with an option to buy.

"Both clubs can buy the player, paying an amount we've already fixed.

"I'm quite sure Reyes is going to stay here, but I don't know what's going to happen with Baptista.

"It's something the coach has to decide.

"My intention, which I said in my campaign, is I am not going to interfere with what the coach is going to do.

"This case depends on what's going to happen at the end of the season."

-------------------

I think it was fairly obvious this was going to happen anyway, whether we took up the option to sign Baptista or not. Reyes gets his wish, Real Madrid are happy with it, and so are Arsenal. Done deal, adios, thanks for the brace vs. Chelsea, blah blah blah.

RVP has been past fit to play against Sheffield United.

I still remember his first touch for us. He looked like he could be anything at the start but just couldn't get it to click consistently for us. I have no opinion of Baptista yet.

Very pleased with the second half performance. Gallas opening his Gunners acount brought a big smile ot my face. Well done.

The first half was very poor. I'm glad Wenger and the boys changed it around as we needed that second half to put pressure on the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Man United above us.

Any of you chaps see the Fulham game? They were given heaps to Cashley!

"There's only one greedy bastard!"

"Oh Ashley Coooooooole...
He's a fu*king arsehooooooooole...
He's a fu*king arsehooooooooole..."

"Ten men went to bed, went to bed with Ashley...
Ten men, nine men... one man and a mobile phone, went to bed with Ashley"

Add in Michael Brown's attempted leg break? Smashing match.

I'm watching the replay now :) :thumbsu: :D

Michael Brown seems to be in the process of creating his own showcase reel of disgusting tackles.

Ashley Cole aside, how he didn't get sent off for that is anyone's guess. The obvious answer being the referee didn't see it, but what did he give the foul for then? This one wasn't quite as bad as his gutless one on Giggs.

Good to see Gallas get off the mark for Arsenal as well. Scored alot of important goals for Chelsea, and is quite composed in front of goal. And Henry with a header? Arsenal actually crossed a ball into the box? ;)

Edit - Nice goal Willy.

Or maybe the ref agrees with me and any sort of malicious tackles on Cashley is now acceptable. ;)

The Gunners are competing with Barcelona for the capture of £5m Argentina keeper Oscar Ustari, 20. (Star on Sunday)

Arsenal and Manchester United will battle it out for the signature of £7m-rated Juventus midfielder Mauro Camoranesi when the transfer window opens in January. (News of the World)

£7m for a petulant 30-year-old winger? Typical Sunday paper tripe.

If any of you have Arsenal TV is it any good?
I have ArsenalTV Online.

It's not bad, probably should use it more often for the $10 per month, but usually just use it to download the highlights of the games that aren't televised.

You usually get about a 10min highlight package of each game.

Good win last night too. Only 7 points behind Chelski now and 5 behind Manure and we have a game in hand on both of them. So hypothetically if we win our catch up game we are only 4 points behind Chelsea and 2 behind Manure.

Considering our terrible start, that doesn't sound too bad.

Mystery investors start to build Arsenal stake
By Gary Jacob and Russell Kempson

MYSTERY surrounds the identity of investors who bought nearly £3.5 million of Arsenal shares last week, raising fears among shareholders and supporters about a possible takeover of the club. More than 1 per cent of the club’s shares were sold at about £5,000 each, the largest weekly trade in 18 months.

Several companies have been attracted to Arsenal in recent years because they believe that the club are hugely undervalued and, as a result, share prices have risen dramatically in the past two years, from £1,500 to close at £5,050 yesterday, valuing the club at £314 million. The shares were priced at £4,650 at the start of the month. The club recently had to issue a statement to the London Stock Exchange denying that it was in talks over a possible offer.

Exceptionally, more than 700 shares changed hands last week, including a block of 300 and 303 in separate trades less than one minute apart on Friday. There was another trade of 70 and 40 earlier in the week, in which the club announced their financial results. The sales are remarkable because most individual trades in Arsenal shares are in single figures, in total amounting to no more than 30 on average per month, and only a bout 25 entities own more than 100 shares in the club.

This list includes members of the board, who are not believed to be the sellers, and Granada Media, which owns 9.9 per cent, for which it effectively paid £9,100 per share.

The sellers remain unclear, but of more concern to fans will be the buyers. Supporters have expressed concerns about Lansdowne Partners, a hedge fund with a history of investing in companies before takeovers, including Manchester United, which began buying shares in April last year.

Arsenal held meetings with Lansdowne to seek assurances about the company’s intentions soon after it amassed a 2.7 per cent holding. Lansdowne holds its shares in three funds, thereby avoiding a formal Stock Exchange announcement, which would take place when any investor owns 3 per cent. The fear among supporters is that they are accumulating shares, possibly knowing that there may be a potential takeover.

on Gallas' injury...
"Gallas has a hamstring problem. It looked to me very serious. We hope it's not too bad, but for Saturday certainly he'll be short. [After that] I don’t know, if he will be available for the French national team or not."

 the curse of the left-back spot continues. I hope Djourou is alright for the weekend game against Charlton, otherwise we're fooked! Hoyte is the only other centre-back, but then we won't have a left-back unless he gives Traore a start.

Do you rate Hoyte at all DB10?

I've only seen him play a couple of times, but imo he's either not ready and/or not good enough.

How highly is he rated at Arsenal?

and who's Traore? I'd of thought Flamini would play there.
