Up to eight players will be delisted

I must of forgot that a herald sun journalist decides who stays and goes on our list before the season is even finished...

Plus, it says "up to eight" so let's stop wasting our time guessing.
Cutting deadwood is one of few highlights of the football season for richmond supporters.

1. McMahon. The most obvious choice, has not played a game all season and is not part of our future.

2. Dean Polo. He has been on our list since the 2004 draft and has played one good game, his time to prove himself has passed and we cannot afford to clog our list with a 24 year old 'potential' high draft pick.

3. Relton Roberts. Don't get me wrong, a guy with phenomenal potential, but it looks as if things outside of football will get the better of him and he won't reach that potential with Richmond.

4. Graham Polak. A senior player in regards to our list and he can't string two games together for Richmond, which leads me to believe that he has to go. Good on him for the remarkable recovery, and good on Richmond for sticking by him, now its time to work for the future, Polak is the past.

4. Adam Thompson. This guy has played around one game? I know he is injured right now, but if anything ever said list clogger, than this is it.

5. Gilligan. Who?

6. Hislop. Too slow, can't kick, and apparently has a very active social life that prohibates him from becoming the best footballer he can be.

7. The Snake. Did very well this year, got to admire this guy for being such a professional, also have to applaud Angus Graham for filling the big shoes of Simmonds without much of a problem.

8. The Cuz. Love this man, hope all goes well for the future and hopefully see him back at Punt Rd.

Wouldn't Be Surprised If...

Robin Nahas got delisted.

Would Be Shocked If...

Matt White & Jake King were delisted in 2010.

Would Be Shattered If...

Dustin Martin was not signed up and GWS won out...

Would Be Crying My Eyes Out If...

Jack Riewoldt leaves Richmond.

Would Be Excited If...

We got either The Gaff, Sam Day or Jack Darling in the up coming draft. Pick 6 goes a long way sometimes!

Would Be ****ing Pissed If...

We drafted another Jarrad Oakley Nicholls.

Pretty spot on with the 8 choices there CNB.

Hopefully a couple traded out too.

Agree. They have to be vaguely serious though, so we might actually get something for them. Obviously we need our few absolute guns, but Jackson, Edwards, McGuane, Rance and (reluctantly) Foley (the very best player I'd trade, concerned about the injuries) would all go on the table for mine. My perfect result would be another good pick, a GC kid(hell , I'd trade pick 6 for that) & a good, still fairly young player along the lines of Knights , Rischitelli or Barlow(Swans)

I still hope the Aint's rate Polo too.:o

Just out of curiosity, where do you think Edwards will come in the B&F this year?

Well the last time you asked me that I said that I didn't know and didn't care before pointing out McMahon came 8th once...this time however I'll just say that I hope he comes top 5 as it might increase his trade value...:thumbsu:

Definites
1. Simmons.
2. Cousins.
3. McMahon

Probables
4. Polak
5. Gilligan (we probably would have seen him by now) - most rookies dont make it.
6. Thompson - took a chance - didn't work - move on.
7. Polo - good skills, but no pace, no strength, no awareness. Does not seem a team player.

Maybes
8. Nahas - I think he's as good as King and Hicks. Small Forward is a tough gig - your good games look good - your bad games look absolutely sh!thouse. For what it's worth, Hicks has really shown f**-all up to now. May be worth something in trade.
9.White. Keep or Trade. Not worth much - pick 30-ish.
10. King. Keep or trade. Worth less than White - Pick 50-ish.
(Edit) Tambling. Keep or Trade (30-ish at best)
Wildcards.
11. Roberts. As everyone here says - awesomely talented. Maybe we give him another shot to see if he can get his head (and gut) right. He's 24, though. Nah, gone.
12. Hislop. Was a highly-rated No 20 pick in 2006. (yes, Polo was #20 in 2004). Bombers gave him the flick very quickly, and we picked him up for bugger all (#58) - possibly off-field considerations? Anyway, if the coaching staff reckon they can get in his ear, who knows? Probably gone, though.
13. Contin. Seems to have some wraps, but have seen and heard nothing. Maybe the first to go - or maybe a surprise. You would have expected a small mid-fielder to have got a run by now.
14. Gourdis. I'm not convinced (after 2 games) - maybe the coaching staff aren't either - he's been on the list for a few years now. Might get rookied again. Looks a depth player at best.

Now, obviously we aren't going to de-list 14. The issue comes up, once we've got rid of the first 6 or 7, any extra spots on the list are going to be filled by players either taken in the high 70-80s in the draft, or more Rookies. Now, we know Polo is not going to be a star - but do we keep him as a depth player, because he's probably a better bet than somebody we get from the dregs of the draft.

Tambling came 5th last year, I'd have no qualms trading him off. I'd prefer to keep edwards but I wouldn't rule him out of trade calculations. His ability in tight contests has improved out of sight this year, proved me well wrong.

It was interesting Dimma saying on Saturday he thinks Edwards will come 3rd or 4th. He gave him a massive wrap. Appears Dimma and Mario are at the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to Edwards.
Good for him...I don't think he will be traded, I just think he should be while he's still worth something, just as Jackson should've been last year, and not after it's blatantly obvious to opposition coaches he won't get any better...you know sometimes a club needs to trade players they rate and think they might get decent offers for...that's generally the whole point...

C'mon BF you know better...he still has the same fatal flaws in his game...poor awareness, runs into trouble, sells others into trouble, enigmatic disposal & descision making at best...it's all very well to look good ducking weaving and sidestepping around the first and second player, as long as you're not going to run slap bang into the third player, be chased down by the fourth player you didn't even see or fumble the ball or turn it over once you're in the clear.

If Hardwick& co. can get all that shit out of his game in his 5th year of senior football....then I'll be the first to applaud them both.:thumbsu:

He has improved on all those deficiencies you listed and has become quite an effective player lately. He might cop the odd brain fade now and again, but it is becoming quite rare. I think we have a player to work with here.

I reckon he will get the rising star award at the B&F

If he just learnt when to play the percentages he'd be a much better footballer (same with Jackson), again that comes down to temperament, composure, awareness and ability to read the play...those things can make an average skilled player a good player, but lack of those things can turn a highly skilled player into a liability at this level....I don't know if those things can be easily taught to a 5th year player...as you've always pointed out..usually you either have those traits or you don't...but hey, if Hardwick & co. can eliminate the stupidity & over-excitedness from King's game (for now)then I suppose anything's possible.

It would also help if his attempted tackles weren't so easily brushed aside too...though he's not alone on our list there..

We have put a few years into this kid now, he has alot we can work with. Not everyone clicks after 2 games too.

I've always pointed out that kicking skills can't be taught, but certainly decision making can be. Again I think he has improved all four of those characteristics you mentioned.

Maybe marginally , but I just don't see it...first half against St.Kilda was a classic example of all his glaring deficiencies writ large and on display. People get carried away by "highlights " players...like White beating 3 blokes, putting on the afterburners and kicking goals from the 50, King kicking 3 goals, Mcguane doing something cool twice a year...it all means about as much as Sampi's mark of the year...

Either way..for 5 years we've all whinged about Wallace not making the hard decisions, Frawley before him not making the hard decisions, Richmond since the advent of the draft never making the hard decisions....well things like trading the Edward's , the Foley's and even the Rance's of our list are the hard decisions...the real hard decisons as oppossed to a whole bunch of no-brainer delistings...

We have far too much deadwood for us to worry about hard decisions yet:D
