I'd have Crawf in ahead of Bohan, I think. Mitchell in the middle, Crawf to a wing and Edward's half forward or bench. 300 games, 4 PC medals, premiership medallion and a Brownlow. Hard to leave out!

Austin first out. Only 85 games. Was never considered a champion of our club until he was awarded the retrospective Brownlow in the 90s. Left the club on bad terms as well.
Salmon out (100 games) - Mills goes to the bench as second ruck. Simmons was a rover, also out. Ditto Ian Law (another rover - only 106 games)

Although I got it at the time, Salmon in the team always irked me, still does. Opened the door for Sheedy to majorly troll us.

Happy with Salmon / Austin out, but this team is locked in like all others as a moment in time. We buggered up by not finding a space for Crawf.

Finally, if my house is burning down, that framed print comes with me (86/500). Prized possession.

He played plenty of wing and half back in 08 when Sam, Lewis, Ladson, Sewell dominated midfield minutes. Obviously not the position he was known for but did play there, particularly late in his career.

Never underestimate Brendan Edwards , he was possibly along with Kennedy the architect of the modern game , his game in the 61 grand final was by all accounts amazing

I'd say the other way round. It's a brilliant troll of Essendon.

If we are updating to reflect the club over the 125 years, I feel we have to move beyond including players from the first 30 years, given we won next to nothing, and update it to reflect the fact we have been the most successful in the past 50.

I realise he was selected in the initial side as the centreman, but his footballing CV is hardly earth shattering.

2 B&Fs, captain for 2 seasons, never played a finals game, let alone win one or a flag.

If we are updating to reflect the club over the 125 years, I feel we have to move beyond including players from the first 30 years, given we won next to nothing, and update it to reflect the fact we have been the most successful in the past 50.

Up until we won our first flag, Bohan was regarded as Hawthorn’s GOAT. Our best player from our first 40 years in the league. It wasn’t his fault we were rubbish. Bobby Skilton and Robbie Flower never won a flag and only played in one finals series. Should they be removed from their respective TOTC? If we are doing a TOTC, we chose the best players from that century. We don’t just put in the players with the most premierships. If Crawford did his hammy and missed the 2008 GF, it would not affect whether or not he makes the TOTC. If you read The Hard Way, Bohan is deserving of a spot in our TOTC. Certainly before Col Austin and a few others.

I have the game on DVD. It's a hard grind by today's standards, but Edwards stands out like a shining light. I tried to count his possessions. Lost count at around 40. So ridiculously fit compared to everyone else on the ground. I remember tallying kicks and handballs, I got to 34 kicks I think, and I know I missed a few, because it's grainy and black and white.
