It seems highly likely that at least two, possibly 3, of our current rookies will be upgraded to the main list at the end of the year - Gourdis, Hicks and possibly Roberts. If this happens, it will mean, for us to have "enough" draft picks, we'll have to delist an extra player or two.

Would it be wise for us to delist, for example, King so as to upgrade Hicks? Or would it be smarter to keep the player on the fringe of staying or going from the senior list on and leaving the rookie down on the supplementary list?

I would offload ROberts. If he can't get it through his head at the age of 24 after being given this chance of a lifetime, to get his weight down and work hard, then he never will.

I think he had a minor interuption during preseason which was greatly shortened from most of the players' given he was drafted in December. I'd be giving him another shot for sure, and he's shown some good signs in the VFL, especially in the first few weeks after being dropped and then again last week. It's one position we need someone to stand up in, so I wouldn't have thought he'd be cut.

If Gourdis shows something when he gets his chance then I'd elevate him, delist Polak & Roberts and leave the rest of them on the rookie list. That would give us 3 picks in the rookie draft which will be decimated by GWS this year. With no veterans we'll be able to elevate another 2 next year.

Next year would be Newman's 10th year which, unless I'm mistaken - as is usually the case - deems him eligible for veteranship. Whether we put him on the list is another thing, but I think there's the chance to put him on the veterans list.

I'd elevate Gourdis, and delist Polak, Gilligan and Westhoff unless they up the ante. I don't see any real reason to bring Hicks and/or Roberts to the main list yet.

We don't need to upgrade either Hicks or Roberts so why would we? I think the only Rookies we have to make a decision on are Goo and Gilligan. Now that I think of it, I thought the Club could extend a Rookie player for 3 years as compensation for GC17's concessions. In which case, why upgrade any? In fact, the Club would be considering wether to delist Polak & Gilligan to free up Rookie spots.

I was going with the theory that we need small forwards badly and we have three on our rookie list, two of which have shown brilliance at some stages throughout the year. Apparently the view isn't shared by most :o

I'd wait and see how TT goes. Hopefully we can get four or five games into him before the season finishes. If he goes OK, then adios Roberts and Gilligan for mine.

Even with Newman on the Vets list we can still elevate 1, none of the rookies have demanded elevation, Gourdis is the only one we need to do anything about given he has already had 2-3 years on the rookie list. None of the new rookies have demanded elevation so sit them there for another year and see who really wants it.

Agree that Gilligan is almost certainly gone. Hoping Taylor steps up, but I still think Hardwick will want a few more options to try out to go with Nason, Taylor and, if he keeps playing him there, Tambling. Nahas, Morton, White, Hicks/Roberts to rotate through with Jack, Griff and Astbury/Post the talls.

Anyway, hypothetically we upgrade Hicks: Do we then delist an extra player, or do we go in with one less draft pick?

It's hard to make a call on cutting any of them from a fan's position. I would think Polak is in danger and probably Gilligan. Gourdis probably the only one in the running for an upgrade. Plus Polak I guess, if he survives the chop. It just depends how much the coaching staff like guys like Hicks, Westhoff and Roberts whether they are retained on the rookie list or let go.

gilligan is in yr two, i believe we have to make a decision on him one way or the other. otherwise i agree.
hicks is tiny and skinny while he has pace and skill i have doubts about him making it due to size. one more yr on the rookie list wont hurt anyone either way.contin and the irishman if they show something next yr can be promoted then theres no hurry.
i think no matter what we will be looking at 3 new rookies next yr.

hope by seasons end we would have a good look at the goo if he plays well then we upgrade him if not then dont upgrade him hicks can stay on rookie list for next year so should westoff and orielly and contin,,, gilligan not really fussed either way,, polak probably will be delisted and as for relton we will start pre season about last week in october and i think thew final list lodgement is aboiut a week b4 the preseason and rookie drafts so he should have about 6 weeks to prove he is serious if not he can go as well..... murphy ambrose and james lawton should most definatley be rookie listed at end of year:thumbsu:

I would let Polak, Gilligan and Roberts go. Roberts was a gamble which I reckon has failed imo. He will be 25 or so next year and hasn't dominated games at VFL level which isn't too promising. Polak is a good news story, but their is no place for him going forward.

I remember watching Gilligan in an intra club match earlier this year and he absolutely dominated on the wing. Thought he was in for a massive year. But at this stage he is in his 2nd or 3rd year on the list and is still playing 3rds. I would prefer to persist Nahas, Taylor, and Hicks.

I would retain Westoff, Contin and Hicks. Westoff is kicking bags in the 3rds and should be given the opportunity at least at Coburg seniors. Contin and Hicks have both shown enough to be retained on the rookie list.

Gourdis should be promoted from the form he has been showing at Coburg.

Roberts and Westoff won't be going anywhere
Roberts already has been elevated anyway
Roberts is playing as a nominated rookie, which meant we didn't need a LTI for him to be elevated. Come seasons end he reverts back to the rookie list.

I would rather us persist with Gilligan than Roberts next season.
Relts will be 25 by next season and i agree has he done enough at VFL level to keep his spot for his age? No imo, yes he does have flashes of brilliance but does he ever do enough over 4 quarters. No.
For those who have short memories Alroy was constantly in the bests for Coburg reserves last season and broke into our dismal Cobrug ones side last year when the wheels fell off with about a month of footy left. Alroy did enough to sneak into the bests a few times at the end of the year.
It seems he has had a few personal problems this year but if he can get over them and have a good pre-season i could see him pushing hard for spot in our 22 round 1 next season.

I would keep Gilligan over Roberts as well. Gill is by all reports making a good transition to the midfield and has more time on his hands.

I think he's in his third year now, so would have to be upgraded if he was to stay a Tiger.

Elevate
Gourdis

Keep
Hicks
Contin
O'Reilly
Westhoff

Delist
Gilligan
Roberts? (maybe keep)

Retire
Polak

I agree with this :thumbsu:

Would be no point elevating Hicks, a stiff breeze would blow him away. He's gaining valuable experience at the moment on the rookie list, got a long way to go before senior consideration. Ditto Contin, but I do like what I hear about him..

Do people on here think that O'Rielly is gonna make it or not??

i would certainly be upgrading hicks before roberts, he has worked harder and had more of an impact.

but i dont think we have to upgrade either of them. Gourdis on the other hand has the rest of the season to stake a claim for a senior list position, hopefully he gets atleast 4 games to show what he can do.

i hope we let polak and gilligan go, and i cant see hislop or thomson being kept.

id like to see nahas and polo put up for trade, because id like to see us take more than 3 picks in the draft.
