Bellagio would be my choice in terms of location. I stayed at the MGM Grand for four nights and TI for four nights when I was there, but would go more central (e.g. Bellagio) next time around.

Mum and Dad stayed at the Venetian when they were there a couple of years ago. Rated it highly. I like the casino there too, good vibe.

When you were at the Flamingo was George Wallace's Show running? It is apparently the best 10pm show on the Strip!

Yes it was , was sold out the 3 nights we were there so missed out .
Couldn't get over the massive lines of pensioners queuing up to see Donny and Marie though .

I stayed at the Venetian when I was over there last year. It's a great hotel. Really nice rooms. The pool was great. Plenty of places to eat and drink. The indoor canals are amazing.

I was in Vegas for 5 nights and it wasn't enough. Plenty to see and do.

I stayed at the Vdara when I was there a few weeks back, was a fantastic hotel. Its connected to the Bellagio and across from the Aria. It doesn't have a Casino and is a non smoking hotel, which suited us fine. Being there 7 nights, we couldn't wait to get out of the casinos and smoke at night.

Am going back in June, was first going to stay at Bellagio, then the Cosmo as they have amazing balconies, but they are just a tad too expensive. Thinking we might try Paris, perfect location and still get views of the Bellagio fountains and strip, and a lot less expensive.

Depends when you go .

Last time i was there(sept 09) i stayed tues/wed/thurs and my room at the Flamingo was only $55 a night . It was massive too , with a view of the strip/belagio fountain etc.

But if i stayed fri/sat that same room was $150 a night .

Try this website , it will give you an idea

Anyone know who would be the best to go for re: insurance?

Is it possible to get a decent hotel in Vegas for $60-80 per night or are they all in excess of $100?
Depends on the nights you're staying it seems. From what I've noticed the difference between weeknights and weekends is ridiculous.

You'd get heaps of US citizens heading to Vegas for a weekend, hence the crazy pricing for hotel rooms on Friday/Saturday nights. I went to the Grand Canyon on a Friday and the traffic on the way back was banked back before Hoover Dam.

Hey Guys, I'm planning to check out Boston and Maybe DC while I'm in New York. I haven't done a lot of research on the aforementioned places and was hoping to get some ideas on what I should check out.

Cheers.

To start of with, Boston, Ma is 4 hours North-West of New York and Washington DC is 4 hour South-West of New York City so you will have to make your mind up or you will double up on your travel.

I'm thinking about doing the same trip and have came to the conclusion that I will do it in a chronological order - fly into Boston and then do New York then Washington DC and fly out of LA to come home.

Boston: Harvard, Fenway Park, The Boston Tea Party, Paul Revere,

Washington DC: White house, Lincoln memorial, Smithsonian,

Agree with all of these plus 1) John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum in Boston is worth a visit if you are politically minded and 2) the USS Constitutional Museum.

But other things to raise:->

Some parts of America DO NOT SMILE! They perceive smiling as a form of weakness. Granted Australia is a tough, ruthless country, but at least we break a smile here and there to bring a ray of sunshine to our humanity

Its no wonder some of the Americans have amazing poker faces because of that ability to not smile

Case in point: Carmela Soprano (Tony Soprano's wife) on the Sopranos, she is a typical New york, New jersey non smiler, and she can take down the toughest alpha male

Other points to raise: the Americans that have been to Australia have not been complementary on Australian women; ie "I dont find Australian women beautiful", but its not the Americans that echo this sentiment: the Europeans have also been saying the same thing, mind you when youre from Italy, France, Germany, Russia or whatever, theyve been spoiled for choice

What are we going to do to this thread when we reach 1000 posts?

Its an epic thread!

Btw Australian teenagers have got the wrong perception of what constitutes 'America' courtesy of their self-righteous Hollywood blockbusters, and tv shows which are scoped towards the teen audience, if not The Simpsons, Family guy, it would be Dawsons Creek or The O.C.

The 'real' America is captured more on cable tv, which is what a lot of us didnt get exposed to

Eg The Wire, Mad Men, Big Love etc etc

I don't really subscribe to the theory that our women are no good. Every part of the world has beautiful woman and ugly women. I think we have our fair share of crankers.

Then why does the perving on women's tennis thread have no Australian players? huh? and theres a sample of a player from 'every colour of the rainbow'

Granted some countries with great looking chicks (South Africa) dont have female players because they find playing sport "too butch"

Because our woman's tennis players are shit.
With the exception of Stosur, we haven't really had much talent in a fair while.
