Qualifying for the US Open starts tonight/tomorrow morning and there are 8 Australians playing on the first day of qualifying.

Lindahl v Bubka
Groth v Kavcic (25)
Ferguson v Duque Marino (25)
Sirianni v Niland
Adamczak v Oprandi
Matosevic v Bemelmans
Ball(27) v Alvarez

Luczak, Rodionova and Moore are also in the draw and they play tomorrow.

Hoping Luczak can qualify, really back up his form from the challengers. He's the only hope really to qualify. Ball's form has been so incosnstiant, looking at his challenegr losses after that ATP final in LA. A few aussies should be able to get a first round win though.

The questions which need to be answered...

Will Nadal will make past the quarters for the 2nd time in 7 attempts?

Will Murray may win a frikking grand slam?

Will Novak retire hurt for the 91st time ?

Who will stop Federer winning title 16th?

What excuse will Total Power come up if Federer wins the US open (odds below)?
- Nadal was injured 3/2
- Murray was injured 6/1
- Novak was injured 11/1
- Federer had an easy draw 8/1

Will Safin choke from 2 sets up or not even take a set at all against an opponent ranked 372?

anyone else doing the fantasy us open competition?
you select 3 men and 3 women inside the top 10 and then 5 men and 5 women outside top 10 and cannot trade for the rest of the comp.

if anyone else is doing it could you please let me know if there actually is a prize for it because it seems there isnt which is annoying.

looks like federer will win another much to my disappointment. I don't understand how people say he is the greatest ever still. Just gotta keep praying nadal gets fit eventually and breaks his record. if nadal broke his record would people say he is the greatest ever? surely they would have to if they say federer is the best now

Well for a start he has the most amount of GS mens singles titles...

If you're talking mens and womens though on that basis you'd have to say Margaret Court.

Hewitt seeded 31, Stosur 15.

Hewitt will meet a top 4 seed in the 3rd round if he makes it that far. Stosur will be lined up to meet one of the top 4 seeds in the 4th round. Will be interesting to see if Dokic plays. Hopefully Luczak gets through qualies, although he has been playing on clay the last couple of months, so who knows if he can carry the form through to the fast hard courts of the US Open.

And Hewitt is set to face Federer in the 3rd round
First match against Oscar Hernandez.
Its the 3rd slam in a row hes been set to play the No.1 in the first 3 rounds.

Gooch has a good chance with Cuevas.

I thought as a seed you're meant to AVOID the top seeds until later on. Not meet them in the 3rd round!

As I mentioned in a previous post, seeds 29-32 are always scheduled to meet a seed from 1-4 in the 3rd round. It is the luck of the draw which top 4 seed you meet in the 3rd round. Does not really matter what top 4 seed Lleyton would meet in the 3rd round, he is still going to lose (not trying to be negative here, just realistic).

Are you sure? I thought the system was 25-32 meets 1-8 in the theird round

The draw is out for the US Open it seems

Hewitts Draw doesn't look good (what a suprise):
1st Round: Thiago Alves (Rank 106)
2nd Round: Juan Ignacio Chela (Rank 137, but has been 15) or Oscar Hernandez (Rank 83)
3rd Round: Roger Federer (Rank 1)

As much as I would like to keep going, I think it's appropriate to stop there for Lleyton. Tip: 3rd Round exit

Jelena Dokic:
1st Round: Kirsten Flipkens (Rank 92)
2nd Round: Anabel Medina Garriques (Rank 21)
3rd Round: Kim Clijsters (Rank N/A, former World No.1)

Jelena will have trouble in the second round and I doubt she will get past Clijsters and even if she did, Venus would be next. Tip: 2nd Round Exit

Sam Stosur:
1st Round: Ai Sugiyama (Rank 68)
2nd Round: Vania King (Rank 124) or Anastasiya Yakimova (Rank 88)
3rd Round: Daniela Hantuchova (Rank 23)
4th Round: Serena Williams (Rank 2)
Quarter Finals: Vera Zvonareva (Rank 7)
Semi Finals: Venus Williams (Rank 3)

In my opinion, I think Sam will breeze through the first two rounds, then will have a little bit of trouble with Hantuchova but still beat her. I also think Sam could match it with Serena but its hard to see her beating Serena here. If by any chance, in the form Sam's in, she beats Serena, Zvonareva is most likely to be next and I believe if Sam was good enough to beat Serena, she could definitely beat Zvonareva. But I doubt it after then.. Tip: 4th Round Exit

I think Dockic is gonna go in with virtually no match practice, I feel sorry for her how unlucky can someone be?
Stosur could be a bit of smokey, but she lost to some virtual unknown the other day so its still a matter of consistency.

Hewitt will always have a tough draw from now on, he's not seeded highly and to win a GS you've gotta beat the best, that's how the draw is basically set up so everyone should shut up about him. He does alright considering.

I hope the best player on earth can win the US open for the first time in his career.

What do you mean? Federer already has 5 US Open titles. :p

First round match which has drawn my attention: Nadal v Gasquet. Rafa should win easily, but it'll be interesting to see how Gasquet fares.

Semi-final predictions:
Federer v Roddick
Nadal v Murray

Hello US Open, goodbye body clock.

Federer has a good draw, but let's be honest, there's no such thing as a hard draw when you're Roger Federer. The guy has made 21 consecutive slam semi finals for a reason.

I'm hoping for a Fed-Nadal final, but I think the chances of that are pretty slim. Federer vs. Murray/Del Potro in the final for mine.

No, He's done it because he gets easy draws ok!

Hewitt seeded 31 was going to get Fed or Murray in the 3rd round and he got Fed. Cue whinging from Drummond.

Actually he was going to get one of the top eight, as seeds 1-8 are drawn against 25-32, and 8-16 against 17-24 in the third round. But still, a seed free draws to the third round would have been great at the Australian Open, so i can't see Hewitt complaining.
