Agree with former referee Gallagher on the sky broadcast that getting the ball saved him.
Made it not a clear and obvious error.
As for Ederson. Pen but no red card.

It actually needs to improve things. Which it does. It is never going to be perfect though.

I've never seen a red for anything of what Ederson did. Usually yellow because he didn't get him with studs or anything. Was knee on knee.

Just because a player gets the ball first doesn't mean his studs can end up wherever he'd like them to.

Ederson isn't a red. Was a late clumsy challenge for the ball. Yellow was the right call for me.
I guess that’s why I’m not a referee or a match official, because I won’t accept that Reguilon gets a red today and Ederson didn’t last week.
I understand with respect to how they’ve applied the laws of course, but still doesn’t sit right with me. I know you’ll call it bias.

I can't see how anyone can argue Reguilon was trying to win the ball. Ederson clearly was.

Remember Howard Webb being on TV, and saying that one of our players was fouled in the penalty area, but it was a good decision not to award a penalty because he didn't go down right.

Would be happy to see it gone. Just use tech for goal line decisions. In the Championship this season every team gets good and bad decisions where if there was VAR it would’ve been ruled differently. May even have cost us a crucial first leg goal… but I’m all for getting rid of it and it’s delay in games, the way it kills exciting moments etc

Keep goal line tech and use semi-automated offsides, scrap the rest.
Was going to say similar. I think the automated offside system is imminent anyway, this would be my suggestion as well. VAR in concept was fine, however it’s usage and implementation just continues to cause confusion.

VAR as a concept is great, but PGMOL are just incompetent.
I've said it before but as soon as I heard Howard Webb in a commentary game say that one of our attackers was fouled in the penalty box, but that it was a brave decision not to give a penalty because he went downa bit funny I knew that refs weren't to be trusted with it.

Why scrap VAR when its the administrators that are clueless. You don't see VAR problems in the champions league coz its officiated way better. Ofc low IQ fans think its VAR and not the officiating.

No chance the clubs will vote to scrap VAR. Generally it has been a success but of course there's always room for improvement.
Offsides are taking a bit too long. Maybe the introduction of semi-automated will improve that but there's still room for error as it won't tell you who got the last touch or whether a player was interfering with play.
Referrals to the pitchside monitor should always include real time footage of incidents. Showing selective slow motion and stills is VAR re-refereeing the game.
If 99% of calls to the monitor result in a reversal why not have VAR making the decision?
