I, no doubt, reflect the dismay of others that Travis Varcoe, whom I generally admire, seemed to be so far out of his depth against Brisbane and their physical game that I wonder whether he should be played next Sunday. I know Bomber does not want to tinker with a winning lineup but one kick for the game and two handballs is a real worry. The Roos will come out to intimidate as they did in our last encounter. Who might he look at as a replacement?

There's a guy called Bartel who goes alright. Bring him in for Varcoe. It still leaves us with 2 small forwards in Stokes and Byrnes, who kicked 5 goals between them Saturday night. Logical change.

As much as Varcoe has obvious class, he just doesn't get the ball enough. We've been critical of this for a while now. It's only going to get harder to get a touch, and we can't afford guys who won't touch it at all.

He's still young, got time on his side. But not this year.

I have been a fan of Varcoe but we can no longer carry him.We have enough small forwards to cover his dropping.
The kid will be a very good and exciting player but his lack of strength and experience are too detrimental at the moment.
He was one that should have been given a few weeks off mid-season.
