You have to be turning thirty and have been at the club for ten years to be eligible. Pav, Hase and JLo were born in '81 from memory, so they are a long way off. Unless Walker improves considerably this will probably be his last year on our list, so we are probably a few years away from adding someone to the veterans list.

It says a lot about our recruiting in the early days that very few players are left from the 95, 96 and 97 drafts.

Everyone's forgetting Heath Black. He was with us for 5 seasons before leaving for the Saints. Black and Grover are the next relevant ones in 2010.

"
Under AFL player rules, each club may nominate or list what is called a Veteran Player.

- In order to be eligible for classification as a Veteran a player must have been the age of 30 as at September 30 in the relevant AFL season and be on the primary list of the AFL club for at least 10 years or in the case of Port Adelaide since the inception of the club.

- From 2006 there is now no limit on the number of veteran players a club can list, as long as the player meets the required classification"

The year is what year they qualify, and the age is what they turn that year. Ie before September 30.

James Walker 2009 (age 30)
Antoni Grover 2010 (age 30)
Troy Cook 2010 (age 34)
Heath Black 2010 (age 31)
Peter Bell 2010 (age 34)
Robert Haddrill 2011 (age 30)
Justin Longmuir 2011 (age 30)
Paul Hasleby 2011 (age 30)
Matthew Carr 2011 (age 33)
Matthew Pavlich 2012 (age 30)
Luke McPharlin 2012 (age 30)
Jeff Farmer 2012 (age 35)
Roger Hayden 2012 (age 31)

These are all the veteran listed players available to us upto 2012. Obviously not all the players will be around at that point. But the players can be listed as veterans in the year stipulated above.

Thanks for the list rgauci.

I think Black is out of contract at the end of the year, so he might be inline for a back ended deal. Let's say he is worth $300,000pa, he might get a contract for $225,000 for 2008 and 2009 and then $450,000 in 2010 when only half will count in the salary cap. Will help free up some room for Pav, Sandi, etc.

Nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

nope. As long as they've done 10 years at the club and are 30+.

e.g the Saints could have taken Spida Everitt back for 2007, and he could've gone on their vets list, as he did 10 years with them before he went to Hawthorn, and he's now over 30.
