Box Hill win it at the siren. That is definitely the best game of footy I've seen this year.

Nuffie Mode has been reactivated.
I think alot of people will be eating their words that Frankston was ‘gifted’ a top 4 spot after that game. Casey are a quality side with some unbelievable players and we took it too them. Next week will be the real challenge.

There are valid criticisms to be made of the modified fixturing. That being said, tonight showed just how good we can be.

Southport next week will be a nightmare trip, but that's a problem for next week. For now, I'm going to ****ing enjoy this.

Still reeling from last night. To be perfectly honest I didn't dare hope for a win. The most I was hoping for was that we made it competitive.

I think last night will have been a character-building experience for this group. I said in a prior comment that I would have preferred a H&A game against Casey over a repeat match with Port or Preston. Last night was just as good in my opinion. Getting experience against genuine contenders is vital for this group's development, and another clash with Southport will be a great opportunity regardless of whether we win or not.

The announcement of re-signings has been unreal as well. Shows this core means business if they can build on what they’ve got

Jackson Voss and Tom Blamires almost certain to not be there next year (AFL list)
Theres always talk, but you never know. They said that last year about Grey and Ellison and nothing came of it, multiple clubs after them and they went elsewhere. But I do think a strong finals campaign helps these boys.

Yeah it gets said about one or two of our players every year. But I'll be astonished if nobody on this current list gets drafted in the future.

I just hope we get a premiership with them before that day comes.

Surely with the bloodlines of Voss he gets a look in. Could be another Jai Newcombe.

Congrats to Box Hill & Frankston for a couple of epic SF victories:

PF PREVIEW

Footscray v Box Hill

  • Footscray are the best team in the competition evidenced by their #1 ranking and current 12 game win streak. When the two teams met in the penultimate round of the Home & Away season, Box Hill were 10 point favourites at home. A Box Hill victory would have secured them the minor premiership but in the end Footscray ran away with a low scoring 19-point victory in the top of the ladder clash. Now they play each other in the penultimate round of finals.

  • Box Hill are advantaged by having their senior team competing in the AFL finals which allows them more access to players at the selection table.

  • Footscray are advantaged by having this match played at their home ground where they've only lost once this year (round three against Sandy).

  • Footscray lost their home Preliminary Final last year by ten points against Southport. Will the lingering nightmares of that loss give them extra hunger to win this matchup?
Prediction: Footscray by 12 points.

______

Southport v Frankston

  • Southport entered the VFL in 2021 and since then they've been one of the strongest performing teams. In their debut VFL season, they finished the season second on the ladder prior to the season being called off. They made the Grand Finals in 2022 and 2024 but are yet to taste premiership success. A Victory against Frankston will result in their third Grand Final in four seasons.

  • Southport have an abundance of VFL stars at their disposal including ruckman Brayden Crossley and impressive midfielders Boyd Woodcock, Jacob Dawson, Ben Jepsen and Jesse Joyce. Their forward line is led by former Fremantle player Hugh Dixon who famously kicked 13 goals earlier in the year against the Bullants. His partner in crime, former Geelong player Wylie Buzza, is an important player for the Sharks who has only been held goalless once in his 18 matches this year. Josh Gore has been a handy signing for the Sharks since arriving from West Adelaide kicking 25 goals from his 19 matches. Zac Foot and Jacob Heron continue to be good, handy players for the Sharks ever since they arrived from Casey and North Melbourne respectively. These are all players who perform extremely well at VFL level who may not be well known by those who don't follow the league closely.

  • Frankston also have an abundance of stars and we'll start with the most prominent forward Corey Ellison. He leads the Dolphins this year with 50 goals, which includes a 10-goal haul against the Bullants. He is complemented beautifully by Noah Gown (34 goals in 19 games) who impressively kicked seven goals during the season against Box Hill. Youngster Matt Johnson came to Frankston after being recruited from Langwarrin with huge wraps and he has not disappointed this season, providing great forward support for Ellison and Gown having kicked 28 goals in 19 matches. This includes a career-high six goals against Sandy. The Dolphins have a strong midfield core including last year's B&F Tom Murphy, Jackson Voss and Tom Blamires. Utility Trent Mynott is a point of difference, very dangerous and one of their most dominant players. Taine Barlow is important in defence, while Harrison Coe is one of the better ball-winning ruckmen in the competition. George Grey had been a welcome addition since returning from injury midyear but his lengthy suspension will be a big loss for the Dolphins.

  • One thing going the Dolphins' way here is the Sharks aren't as dominant at Fankhauser Reserve as you think they should be. They've lost seven games at home during the past two seasons which is actually more losses than they've had on the road (only four road losses in the past two year's if you include last year's Grand Final).
Prediction: Southport by 23 points.

Daniel Ward the new coach of Sandy as they go stand alone
Expect plenty of players to be recruited from the VAFA
As a recent former Premier A and B section VAFA coach, don't be surprised if he attracts some, or more of the top talent from the VAFA.

He knows who’s who in Ammos (and SFNL).

If he does, watch out, because the best Ammo players are very skilled and their football style is first-rate.

I think Jacko is a shoe in, Tom right behind him with how much he has come on since mid year.

Throw a blanket over Taine, Reidy, Hipwell, Moran the O'Leary's (all this group are good VFL players that just need one club to like them)

Add Ellison and Grey to that mix its a potent side that could do damage when everyone is fit. I strongly believe if which I doubt no one gets picked up and everyone stays fit they will contend alot stronger next year regardless of their draw

Agree they could be anything, simply need to keep adding to what we have. A real Weribee 2019 about them. Hope they can get some former Dollies back, some locals to the MPNFL back to Kinetic stadium. Capiron, Street, Maclachlan etc.

And St Scum will be lurking for players
