They gave the VFL a shite timeslot and then blamed it for not rating. Give it back to the ABC or broadcast it on SBS
ABC dumped it dude

AFL reserves isn't going to rate any higher
I seriously don't get why people think a reserves competition would draw a better crowd than the VFL currently is, especially when it's a standalone club posting the best crowd figures. Games featuring AFL reserves teams are routinely played in front of almost no crowds because people don't really care that much how the reserves are going.

AFL reserves isn't going to happen, so it's a moot point

People don’t watch it in numbers so it’s inevitable really.

But it doesn’t have to be the end of the world, FTA TV is less relevant than ever, it is going to be show online so people who want to see it will be able to. I don’t see that changing, and anything broadcast online is very accessible these days.

Many top local leagues broadcast their match of the week online so I don’t see the VFL stopping it.

Re the draw, why do 7 of the 9 away teams in R1 also play away in R2? Can't be due to cricket.

Imagine if 7 AFL clubs didn't get a home game in the first 2 games? Dillon would get the flick.

Further, 2 clubs don't get a home game until at least R4 after byes in R3.

It's because of cricket

Coburg, Williamstown, Port and Werribee, absolutely due to that. The cricket clubs are tenants until March 31st and their (potential) finals are over that period of time.

You want them kicked off for a semi professional league?

Sub district cricket is not a high standard

to be fair, the fixturing doesn't help anybody really, eth-dog can confirm but Essendon had a number of cross over VFL / AFL games last year so watching both was difficult, attending was impossible.

And that is a big issue

And that is a big issue
when it is AFL house doing the fixturing, or not bothering to check the fixturing, you invariably get left the mess its in.

Upper management looks like they'll use this as evidence to disband it eventually siting poor crowds etc.

IF the AFL were serious, we'd get double headers back, doesn't even need to be at the AFL ground but enough time to get supporters from ground a > ground b, play stand alone in prime-time slots and those interstate games use as ventures to spruce the "V"FL.

For the most part it should work, for the occasional weeks AFL seniors are unable to schedule VFL time slots, schedule them on the alternate day so the AFL is on Saturday 3:20, VFL is on Sunday 12:05pm as to avoid a clash

Not at Essendon
Actually they are. Essendon will play their round 2 game at The Hangar with round 4 (if at home) possibly at WH.

Also not any of the clubs I mentioned

I meant the cricket !
So do I. Essendon CC still hold tenancy over that period of time. They allow Essendon FC to play AFLW games in October for a sum of money. But they hold it from October to March inclusive.

And the reason Essendon get a home game over that time is due to the fact they can use The Hangar as an alternative venue until WH is theirs/able to be played on.
