does anyone have varcoes stats?

Played only the last half of the first and second quarters, but started in the third. Not sure about the 4th as I had to get away.

For the three quarters I saw only a few handpasses, a mark and a point plus a few tackles. Looked OK, very quick, but not nearly ready yet.

The way we're going, bring them all in.

OUT: King, Tenace (Inj), Hunt, Kelly, Playfair, Kingsley

Leave Ottens in the goal square for more than 5 minutes at a time. Kingsely is doing nothing.

I would have put S Johnson in the outs, but I can't bring myself to - he gave us plenty extra against StK and had limited opportunities last night

Why Kelly? Hasn't he been good for us?

Good Point nana. Does anyone have any stats for Lonergons year in the VFL so far? Or does anyone know where I could get them from? Just want to know how many touches and marks he has had a
swell as goals.

I would have to agree with `TheHoff`, Lonergan has been tried and failed. He may get another chance, but McCarthy should be given a chance atleast he can take a vice like grab. Lonergan struggles to take a chest mark.

I do agree with you, but the point is that Lonners hasn't been given an opportunity for long. A week here, a week there. Give him atleast a solid 3 weeks.

But I agree with you 100%, I'd rather McCarthy but he isnt showing the form in the VFL that Lonergon has.

And McCarthy hasnt tried and failed?

When Lonergan has been given a go, he's been used very sparingly, how are is it supposed to be gauged whteher or not he has the minerals?

Look, he probably wont be all that crash hot, but he's been kicking lots of Goals in the VFL is normally a reliable kick for goal, and is a smiliar leading type player to that of Kent, whom everyone seems to want dropped.

Oh my. Lonergan is not the answer. The bloke is nothing short of a dud.

Lonergan; consistently kicking goals and consistently getting in the best.

McCarthy; consistently shanking kicks and consistently getting injured.

The difference is not huge, Lonergan has been far better performed this season.

He's played one half-decent game all year (vs. StK). In my opinion, he is not accountable with his man when playing on the ball, doesn't chase or tackle hard enough, and plays too much forward of the ball (i.e. receiver). When we're playing well as a team, he looks good, but can't impose himself on the game when things aren't going well.

Other midfielders wouldn't be far behind him in being dropped, though (e.g. Ling, J Corey)

He has been tried this year. McCarthy burst onto the scene a few years ago and did quite well. Lonergan has proved stuff all at AFL level.

Give McCarty 3-4 weeks and if he does not perform, give Longergan another shot, but i highly doubt longergan will play more than 10 games for the club.

There were references earlier in the thread to him playing more up the ground

Again I only saw the 3 quarters but Lonergan, McCarthy, and Nablett seemed to rotate who was playing full forward. Occasionally Nablett played up the ground.

Lonergan, I'm afraid to say, was by far the most impressive. McCarthy was a one trick pony-if he didn't mark it he didn't get it, and he didn't take many marks. Nablett didn't get alot of the ball but generally if he led, the lead was not honoured. He did OK though for the limited opportunities he had-at least one goal resulted from a great tackle. I think we will have to be patient but he is going to be a player.
