Good 2nd quarter.

10.5, if it was the afl boys it would have been 3.3 with 9 of the other chances being dished off when we should have just gone back and kicked it.

Geelong 2.2 12.7 15.8 18.9 (117)
Sandringham 4.4 8.5 8.10 13.17 (95)

BEST:
Geelong: Callan Byrne Blake Ablett Spencer Batchelor

GOALS:
Geelong: Batchelor 3 Cook 3 Ablett 2 Gamble 2 Forbes 2 Owen West Lonergan McCarthy Cheep Davenport

I think Ablett should be recalled for Kingsley! He can take a contested mark and smashed Eagles last year.

I never get to see the VFL...only go by what everyone says on here...but when Callan played a few weeks back I thought he showed a lot of promise and he seems to get in the VFL best quite a bit.

What the hell is Bomber smoking if he can't see this?

Couple of Varcoe plays. Saw him causally jog down the opposite, wing. THen turned on his turbos and marked 40m's out. Didnt get the distance, however from where i sat it looked like he was wearing runners. Was also favouring one side?

Also his tackling was electric. His tackles hold!

Probably a few weeks away, but can see him holding his spot when his there. Reminds me of a Wells/Davey cross.

Lonergan, McCarthy Spenser must have a chance the rest of the year to prove or at least show themselves. This also applys to whoever else's future in the Hoops is on the line, a guy like Batchelor , a rookie would be interesting too.Lets see if we have anybody skilled by foot who can move accross the ground.
Although tempting to play NA , Nathans future is in his own hands. I expect only to see him in the gym, getting so mass on that frame of his , play out the year in the V's and be in the best every 2nd week. Yes play him on occasion but make him earn it , make him crave it and only if he is fully fit.
Now coverse to this Blake needs games, put another 10 games into hima nd he will be better for it next year.

Good to see Owens name , anyone want to put a review on him up.

For those that didn't go here is my review of the VFL today and a comment on all the senior players.

I missed the first 15 mins so can't comment on the opening, but we looked in control for everything that I saw, including a really good patch in the second quarter when they played some inspired footy. We ran a three pronged forward line with Nath and McCarthy predominantly deep and Lonergran playing the mobile role. Each player rotated up the ground, but the later spent the most time up there. Slade and Charlie played on the ball and to pretty good effect. Callan played across half back in his customary role, and Blake and West changed in the ruck. Varcoe played on the wing for the majority of the game, and now looks to be playing the same amount of game time as any normal midfielder. Now for the individual player reviews:

Nath: Today was the most impressed I have been with him in the VFL. He actually looked interested today, and did much more than his couple of special things. i have seen a few of his games this year including the bag he kicked in the praccy match against Werribee, but he had a really good approach to the game today. Kicked two nice goals, had at least four goal assists and had a hand in another couple. Took some nice grabs, lead hard, chased his opponent and generally looked like he wanted to be there. I think he should go straight in for KK, because I would rather see this kid develop in front of us, and get on the end of some good delivery than have him run around in the two's. Some really good signs today, and not just the classy stuff we know he is capable of.

Callan: If my post on the rumour mill thread has any merit to it, it will be answered this weekend. Callan was a standout today. Attacked the footy, ran back with the flight, took some great marks, used it well, just a really good all round performance. I think this is the guy that should be in for Hunt, or in the side to free up Joel Corey.

Slade: Quite good on the ball today. Bust open some packs and generally was good around the clearances. Still let down by his disposal but really showed something in the middle.

Blake: Was excellant for mine. Dominated the hitouts and did a fair bit more around the ground. Was a really good performance and we really just need to bite the bullet and play him in the 1's some more.

Varcoe: Did some good things and has pace to burn. Certainly looks like a man who has been out of the game for 8 months or so. Laid some really good tackles, but supporters shouldn't entertain the thought of throwing him in the deep end because he isn't anywhere near ready. Certainly shows some promise and it is good to see his game time is up.

Gamble: So much to like about this kid. The last two I have seen him play have been really good. Was in the votes for mine again this afternoon. Has good pace, knows where the goals are, and has an uncanny leap, from almost a standing start. Will be a good player and don't be surprised if he doesn't bob up sometime this year.

Batchelor: First game I have seen him play this year, and he was ok. Carries the ball nicely and has good pace. Coughs it up by foot but this could develop. Just a real traditional winger. Did some good things.

McCarthy: Was probably the second best forward behind Nath. Nothing looks fluent for BIG DADDY MAC, but he did present and crash a few packs. Kicking hasn't got any better, and the drop of the ball still looks all at sea.

Charlie: Looked Ok playing on the ball, but hurt his ankle in the third or fourth, which is certain to keep a few people happy as he won't be next in line for a recall.

Hunt: as much as it pains me to say it, but big Sammy was alright today. He did a couple of excellant spoils, and showed good closing speed on his man. Looked composed at times which is very unlike Sam.

Lonergran: Didn't do a hell of alot today, but was the third option going into the forward line all day, and played up the ground more than the other two.

West: Is a tremendous runner, and hopefully as he puts on more size he doesn't lose that athleticism. Is going to take time but has some nice attributes.

Grima: Played half back today becuase of our abundance of forward options. Liked his game, as he was quick has a tremedous leap and gives it his all. Alot to like about what he offers and you can see why he was a good junior.

Owen: Did a few good things and will continue to develop as the season goes on.

The big things to takeway from todays game for me were the interest levels of Nath. We all know he can take a mark, and can kick it, but he looked like the complete package today. There was a goal assist he did in the second quarter where he crashed a pack, kept his footing, regained the footy and snapped it around the corner on his left to hit McCarthy running into space. Just oozed class! Gamble looks to be a find, and Blake is continuing to grow in confidence.

If Harley & Ricco are Ok I think Callan and Nath should come in this week also.

Callan for Hunt
Nath for KK
