Another Victoria season kicks off today....gee, i can barely contain my excitement

Been a good innings.

Currently 9/236 with 7 balls to go in the innings.

Brad Hodge 101 off 115 balls. Jon Moss 64 off 73 balls.

Bowling depth looks good. Harwood and Inness to open this afternoon.

Not that it makes me sad.

The Vics went into the game one quick bowler short and never looked like puting the Blues under pressure

I went down to Bowral for the game today. 244 was never going to be enough for the Vics - that ground is tiny and the pitch was an absolute beauty.
Hodge and Moss did well for the Vics, but when they were 4/60odd after 20 overs it was always going to be a battle. They did well to get the score closer to respectability, but there was never any doubt that NSW would get the runs fairly comfortably. I thought NSW could have started hitting out a bit earlier and had a shot at the bonus point, but they decided against it.
Still, a win's a win and with Katich in that sort of form it's a good start to the season for NSW.

I think the Victorian one-day side could do with a few more specialists and less of these mediocre all-rounders.

Particularly in the bowling department. Once Inness and Harwood went off, so too did the pressure.

Victoria's batting top order is one of the worst going around. How many times are they off to shocking starts? Slow starts at a RR of 3, and the loss of 3 or 4 wickets are a trademark beginning to a Victorian One-Day innings.

Matthew Elliott,like Michael Slater in NSW,is useless in one day games.They might be good in Milk Matches,but they're ****weak in ING games.

I can't remember the last time Victoria had a good opening one-day pair in one-dayers. They've had some good first-class openers in Mott and Arnberger in recent years but neither of them are particularly suited to one-day cricket.

Graeme Vimpani and Rob Bartlett are amongst the other players who've been used in recent years with limited success. Maybe Ian Harvey should be given a shot at it?

It's been tried .I think he got about 75 opening once,but failed every other time.

Victoria is meant to be a big sporting state with a massive population to choose from. They should do more than the current uinderachieving lot have of late.

I think we lost a lot when the strong team that was present in the 1990's got too old.

Within the space of about of the last decade, we've lost:

Dean Jones
Simon O'Donnell
Tony Dodemaide
Merv Hughes
Paul Reiffel
Damian Fleming
Warren Ayres
Gary Watts
Jamie Siddons
Darren Lehmann

for 4 gains:

Shane Warne
Ian Harvey
Matthew Elliott
Brad Hodge

That's a lot of change in a shortish period of time. Granted Warne is incredible, but, there is only so much we can do.

Thank God David Hookes is in charge and injecting some real future blood (Harwood, Jewell, Moss and White) into the side.

Does anyone know why Mick Lewis wasn't playing on the weekend?

I agree that we play to many allrounders and need some more geniune strike power in our attack.

Harvey has never really been good enough to consider as an opener. Coming in at 6 is about right for him

Both have the ability to have done a lot better in the OD format but both fail way too often.

Lewis is back for friday nights game.He had a run in the 2nds this week to gain some fitness.

hehehehe... i was about to quote you on that, but you beat me to it... actually matty elliot had great one day form for the vics last season, but couldn't seem to do as well in the pura cup... i'm sure he made a couple of 1 day tonnes last season...
