Just got my renewal pack in the mail today...
Looks like they are trying to increase the spending in the footy department by bumping up the price (or we are covering for Harvey's payout figure)

Last year the base price was $144 for 6 games in Melbourne with $25 grand final upgrade and $15 for the Cheersquad upgrade.

Now we have only 5 games in Melbourne and the price has gone up to $175 with the GF and CS upgrade both at $30.

I don't mind the increase on the upgrades as they are justified but I just don't get why the cost of the membership has gone up $30 when we have less games here!

I was hoping for the Vic Cheersquad to grow in size next year, but I reckon the price might scare a few ppl off. I'd expect a lot of the fans here to just rock up to the games and pay general admin.
Stupid idea considering we didn't even make the top 8 and expecting a rush of new members.

I'm going to sit down and compare the other clubs interstate membership costs and see if we are on par with the rest.

Nothing extra in the 'member benefits' table in the booklet compared to last year (I still have last years).

I was always going to pay it no matter what the price, but I just feel for those fans who might have thought about joining up this year but the price driving them away.

They must have figured they could squeeze more out of the current Vic members than they would by lowering the price and getting more on board with all the extra sales it could have brought in the clubs coffers.

It's possible it's half price gouging rise and half stuff up. I.E. they said; 'let's raise the interstate membership by five bucks a match, they'll wear that..' without actually remembering we have one less game there. It would be $5 extra a game if it was actually 6, but it's worked out to $10 since there's only 5 matches.

Where are the tickets? and what is a grand final upgrade?

The Victorian Membership over here just gets you into the ground, not really allocated a particular seat. Although the Cheersquad upgrades gets you behind the goals.

The grand final upgrade is a 'Priority Pick'. If/when we make the GF, those 6000 members who have purchased the upgrade get a guaranteed access to a ticket and don't have to enter a ballot to secure a ticket. You'd hate to miss out a chance in a lifetime...

If you chant "The Steves know what they're doing and the board can do no wrong" three times, your concerns will fade away Seppo.
If I chant: "Reg doesn't know what he's doing. He gets it all wrong" 3 times, will you go away?

No, I'll just start posting 3 times as much. Chants are selective and can have unexpected results if you use them incorrectly.

So the price gets raised even though you're getting less games for it.

I understand that clubs do need to make money to finance the football department and the like but raising prices when fans are getting less games............in a business sense (making money) I understand but in a reality sense, it makes no sense.

Fans aren't cash cows so they need to be careful that they don't price people out of becoming a member

I love it when you talk from experience :)

Easy - don't sit in the cheer squad. You'll not spend more than 2011, and you won't be with the fans from Geelong... you might even get to see more than the front half of the ground!

Not an option for me with my involvement with the club over here.

As I said in the OP, I'm paying for it anyway. I was just amazed by the imbalaced increase.

I don't actually know whether you're saying this seriously or mockingly.

If serious, well I appreciate it

If mockingly, tell me why I'm wrong (not saying I'm 100% right either)

It was a slight bait (in that you are victim to the exact issue you described) but I actually thought your post was balanced. So a little of A a little of B.

Dang that sucks! I just moved to melbourne and am leaving awesome seats at subi (the seats are actually horrible, splinter dispensing pieces of shit) but I have a great crew around me and i'm the seat next to the player race.. I digress

I need to get on the cheer squad over here! Seppo, you mentioned your involvement with the club, i'm curious what you do man?

I pretty much head up all the Cheersquad and Banner team related stuff over here with a few others.
I sit in the front row of the Cheersquad, start all the chants, make the team banner a few days before the game, hold up the banner on the ground, travel to all the interstate games as well.

Because of my involvement with the banner I get tickets to all the interstate games so essentially I get 10 games for the price of 5 (but I pay for the flights!)

Anyone who wants to join the Cheersquad next year can possibly help out on the field to hold up the banner as we are usually short a few people. Only if you pay the Cheersquad upgrade though...

Great way to meet the players as well, I have had the occasional changeroom pass this year.

Would prefer instead that our Victorian memberships were scaled to the amount of wins we get to see here. I'd save a lot of money.

Dude, I'd be keen as mustard to get involved! I'm planning on heading to each of the interstate games as well... it would be awesome to get involved with the banner!

He's damn loud too!

I might join the cheersquad this year but lack of beer in those seats might prevent it.. Does that still happen?

People can't drink beer in the Cheersquad but there's usually empty seats either side of the block Freo Supporters usually sit in to drink.

I usually have a pre drink outside of the area or celebratory/consultation drinks afterwards.

Too busy yelling and waving flags during the game to drink beer.
