Vossy mentioned in his presser last week, that he intended to have a chat with Gieschen. Wonder how that chat went ?

Last week's umpiring display, especially in that 3rd qtr & with the free against Lester, was disgraceful.

I remember Dennis Pagan saying that when he was starting out, he talked to the head of the umpiring department about some decisions that he thought were incorrect. The head of the umpiring department agreed they were incorrect. Pagan said that was the last time he did that, because he concluded there was nothing to be gained.

I am betting it went along the lines of:

Voss - "FFS Giesch you promised me that we would not have to deal with that $@#% Nicholls anymore. Have a look at that game and tell me how he can possibly officiate our games. The bias is as obvious as dogs' ball Jeff. You know it and I know it. That's why you took him off our games in the first place."

Gieschen - "Yeah fair call Vossy but everyone else has been complaining about what a tool he is as well and to be fair to the competition I needed to share the pain a bit. I tell you what as a special favour to you I will put him on the Collingwood game next week just to really piss them off."

Voss - "hmmmm well that does make me feel a bit better."

Wonder if he was questioning particular interpretations of a rule or just questioning the comptence (or lack thereof) of a particular individual umpire.

Vossy looked as bemused & frustrated as the rest of us during the game. I think he'd be seeking clarification on rule interpretations. This would then bring into question whether certain decisions were paid correctly. Hopefully then leading to a certain umpire being put under more scrutiny in coming weeks from Gieschen.

No way did Lester have prior opportunity in that tackle. You could understand how our boys would be frustrated with that decision & in doing so, gave away the 50 metre penalty. Umpires have lost touch with the human side of the game these days. They have no sense of humour!

Yeah, I think Voss and the whole Lions team know that there is something going on between Nicholls and the Lions. I don't know what it is, but I would be requesting he never umpire a Lions game again. (In fact I would be requesting he never umpired another game period).

I don't seriously think that will happen. After all, according to Giesch the umpires hardly ever make mistakes - he would probably claim there were only 2-3 made in our whole game. And of course Nicholls is one of the best bounces of the ball in the AFL, which is apparently one of the key attributes for umpire selection (no kidding).

not before time ! we have had the blunt end of the stick since 2003 !

If a player had *played* for the Lions, not made it at the top level and transformed himself into a ref ... would he be watched to see if he could be unbiased vs the old team and would that make a difference to the games they gave him etc or would they just appoint him regardless? If it would make a difference would/could it be the same for those who worked for them?

Jordan Bannister played for the Bombers (before the Blues) and umpired a game involving them earlier in the year.

Just hope he asks him why players seem to be allowed to consistently molest Brown. He needs to ask about the one in the first quarter where McGinnity came back the other way, no eyes for the ball, and flew into Brown. So ****ing sick of the bullshit Brown cops.

This was the one that really got to me. McGinnity had no clue as to where to ball was, he just had eyes for Browny

This problem is easily fixed.

Remember a few years ago when Hird "went public" (was it the Footy Show?) about the Bombers getting a raw deal from a certain umpire (McBurney....or was it McLaren?).

Got slugged with a $20K fine, then publicly apologised

....and then the Bummers got , well..............a better "deal" from that ump from that time forth.

Vossy....get Jon Brown out there and give Baldy a right old serve.

I for one, will chip in for the subsequent fine.:footy:
