Votes: Round 15 v Hawthorn

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Kinda off topic, but I do my own 'Brownlow Votes'. I gave 3 to Simon Goodwin today.

I have him second overall!

I have Cousins with 17, and after today, Goodwin now has 16. I think Goodwin will be a GREAT value bet for the Brownlow at the moment.

Best on Ground

5. McGregor - gave us that powerful forward presence that we so desperately need, top game from Kenny
4. Burton - absolute workhorse
3. McLeod - the game really came alive when he clicked into gear, sheer class
2. Goodwin - got a mountain of disposals again
1. Hentschel - thought he epitomised our day in a way: struggled early, getting outbodied and kicking poorly, but he persisted and worked his way into the match providing a solid target up forward and was important in our 3rd quarter revival, then lost his composure a bit in the last quarter

Best Team Man

3. Ricciuto - never afraid to put his body on the line
2. Thompson - did the tough stuff, took some important grabs
1. Mattner - a solid contributer

Apologies to Doughty who worked his butt off today. Would still like to see him be a bit more damaging with his disposals. Also Hudson, who did reasonably well against one of the competition's best ruckman.

Rookie

Rutten - solid down back

BP's

5. Goodwin - BOG by a mile.
4. Edwards - won a lot of the hard, reliable like laways.
3. McLeod - his run from defence all day was fantsatic.
2. Burton - played well early and had a real crack
1. McGregor - played well (13 marks) his decison making at times is very frustrating, a bit like Burtons

( Special mention to Ian Perrie, just couldn't fit him in)

POTY

5. McGregor - dominated at CHF and was the difference between the 2 sides with his 13 marks. Played in front as a forward should.

4. Goodwin - back to his All-Australian best and used the ball beautifully. Our best mid-fielder by a mile today.

3. Burton - outstanding aerobic effort from maccas_no_1's wild donkey, covering ground from the back pocket to the goalsquare. Virtually clanger free today.

2. McLeod - gave huge dash and run from the back-lines - all class.

1. Edwards - another one of his hard-working servicable efforts - having a great year on the ball.

Best Team Man

3. Hudson - good effort against the comp's best ruckman - the spark that ignited us in the 3rd quarter.

2. Bassett - loved his game on Williams today. Another top effort from the Bass.

1. Rutten - worked well with Bassett to save our bacon time and time again. Excellent game.

Rookie

Rutten. Fast becoming a quality defender.

POTY

5. Ken McGregor - What a game. 22 touches, 13 marks and a couple of goals from a CHF that was playing further up the ground is a GREAT return. I don't think he lost a contest today.

4. Simon Goodwin - This bloke is having a super year and boy have we missed him. He would be leading our B&F at the moment.

3. Brett Burton - Only crow to give a yelp in the first quarter. Took a couple of one handed beauties and kicked a couple of goals while getting 25 touches and USING them. Excellent game from the Birdman.

2. Tyson Edwards - I thought he was one of our best. Played a super game 2 weeks in a row.

1. Andrew McLeod - What a sensational 2nd half. He would have been higher in the votes if he played well in the first half. Second half was McLeod of old but what I likes most about his game today was his physicality. He got stuck in Vanderberg and Crawford. VERY pleasing thing to see. I think he has been hanging around Thommo this week.

Honourable Mentions: Doughty, Bassett, Thompson, Hentschel and Mattner.

BTM

3. Kenny McGregor - See above

2. Nathan Bassett - I thought he did a very good job on Williams for most of the game. Going into this match, I thought we needed to stop Everitt, Mitchell and Williams. Bassett did a very good job.

1. Simon Goodwin - See above.

Rookie

Rutten - Surely he would have to be a serious candidate for AA selection.

Player of the Year
5. McGregor - Akin to his game against Essendon this year. Dominated around the ground, picking up the marks of Tredrea and the possessions of a midfielder. Terrific effort and sorely needed after the loss of Welsh.

4. Goodwin - Continued his super year. Gathered possessions at will and delivered beautifully to the forward. Should be in AA, B&F and Brownlow contention this year.

3. Burton - Ran all over the ground and featured in many plays. Used the ball well today and provided the drive and heart when we needed it.

2. McLeod - Showed his class with his drive from defence and precise ball movement. Showed plenty of physicality and looks to be really enjoying his footy.

1. Doughty - Have to give this bloke credit. Not a star, but has improved his attack and tenacity 110% this year. And people thought we should drop him. ;)

Best Team Man
3. Bassett - Played a great 3 quarters on the dangerous Williams. Kept us with his pace and his performance was only marred by some late goals against him.

2. McGregor - see above.

1. Mattner - Charged down everyone and is slowly becoming one of our most consistent players. Having a terrific year.

Rookie of the Year
Rutten - Thought his performance was better than most people have believed. Took some great overhead marks (including one in the goalsquare that sealed the win IMO) and quelled his opponent's game. Should be in AA contention based on this form.

POTY

5: McGREGOR, Kenny - Played the CHF position like a master. I dare say his days as a girtty CHB are long gone.
4: GOODWIN, Simon - Has become the barometer of the AFC this season. If Goody plays well we invariably win.
3: BURTON, Brett - Superb performance both on the ground and in the air.
2: EDWARDS, Tyson - Mr. Fixit. If there's a gap he'll fill it.
1: DOUGHTY, Michael - Still frustrated the hell out of me when he received a handball in the clear only to look to handball himself. Decision-making still needs work, but he was hard at it (gasp!) and linked well for the most part. Capped his day by going forward and nabbing a goal in the third.

BTM

3: McGREGOR, Kenny - The majority of his hard work resulted in opportunities for teammates. Worked his butt off for the cause.
2: BASSETT, Nathan - Another dogged performance from Fred. Kept the dangerous Choco II under wraps for the majority of the game and provided quality drive himself.
1: HUDSON, Ben - Toiled manfully against big Spider and didn't look at all out of place despite the gulf in experience.

Rookie

1: RUTTEN, Ben - Didn't have any competition thanks to NVB and Boogie Knights getting next to no gametime, but had a solid game down back against a potentially dangerous Hawks forward line.
