Whilst I could rant about the fact that WA had NSW 5/127 (250 behind) and still allowed them to get first innings points I won't...

I'll just ask this question in the hope someone knows the answer.

Why didn't John Taylor get a bowl??

Why pick a bowling all-rounder, spend 131 overs in the field and not bowl the bloke for ONE over???

Marcus North bowled 20 overs for frig's sake!!!

It had better be because he's injured which, although would be a shame for him, would at least give some explanation for what is otherwise an inexplicable decision

I feel your frustration. I was asking similiar questions about the Queensland selection and bowling changes.

WA had them on the ropes and did not take advantage. Looks like the game will end to 2 points to NSW.

John Taylor hasn't fielded at all; back strain apparently.

North bowling isn't such a rare occurence. But Shaun Marsh bowled for the first time in is first-class career and picked up a couple of wickets.

Makes sense about Taylor.

North does get a trundle every so often, but he wouldn't have bowled 20 overs in a innings in FC cricket too often.

So I'm guessing you don't want JL as a future Aussie captain...

Looks like NSW are going to have a real crack 3/93 off 13 overs.

Big Don Nash came in at 3 smashed a couple of boundaries but didn't last long. Jacques and Waugh at the crease M.Waugh and Katich still to come.

Big last session ahead. Turning poit may have been a very confident appeal behind the wicket turned down against Waugh ten minutes before tea.

Could be a close finish. I still favour a draw in this- WA don't have the bowlers to take wickets but NSW probably needed more overs to make a real game of it.

NSW win for mine.

They're almost half-way to the target, well ahead of the required run rate, and have only lost one recognised batsman.

Yeah, NSW cruising to victory. If S Waugh stays in they will do it in a canter:

Western Australia 376 & 362/8d
New South Wales 436 & 168/3 (25.0/52 ov) New South Wales require another 135 runs with 7 wickets and 27.0 overs remaining

New South Wales RR: 6.72
Required RR: 5.00

It seems like it'll be twice now (this game and the ING game) that WA have blown it when they've been in a pretty good position. Thrice if you count them blowing first innings points.

Yep, NSW will romp home now. WA should not have declared that early- that target was always achievable and NSW has a great batting list. WA blew both games...........

Good work WA- you get what you deserved

Although hard to tell over the internet, but Langer seems to have really panicked as a captain. Thorp bowled his first over got belted, so he changes his ends straight away. Worthington has bowled two overs for 26 in two seperate spells, and Casson bowled one poor over and was taken of around about tea time......That sort of captaincy isn't good.

If a guy has been bowling well (as Casson must've been in his first two overs as he went for just five runs) and has one poor over, it's poor captaincy to take them off without giving them another go iMO.

Yep.

I won't begrudge anyone making a sporting declaration in order to get a result but looking at it we had no hope. NSW have a powerful and explosive batting line-up and our bowling is incredibly mediocre.

At the end of the day the bowling was the reason we lost on Sunday (aside from SR Waugh's great innings), the reason we lost first innings points in this game, and ultimately lost the 6 points. We're never going to bowl NSW out in 50 overs with our attack unless NSW completely self destructed and how likely was that ever going to be.

The way we're going we'll lose to SA in the ING cup game next week......

I took a sickie from work and went out to the SCG today - what an amazing day it was. I can't ever remember going to a day of first-class cricket where 500 runs were scored before.
With the timing of the declaration, at the time I thought Langer had left it too late - the asking run rate was close to 6 an over, which is usually beyond a team in 1-day cricket. And with a less strict definition of wides, no bowling & fielding restrictions etc I didn't think NSW would get anywhere near it.
Steve Waugh got yet another century, and Simon Katich is in sensational form. Easily man of the match.
A couple more observations - I reckon Beau Casson's action looks a bit suspect. Darrel Hair was umpiring and didn't call him, but there appeared to be some straightening of the arm.
And finally, a big raspberry to Cricket Australia for scheduling a game to run from Tuesday to Friday. Having no weekend play makes it hard for those of us who have to work; I had to ring in sick from work to get to any of this game.
