Bennell leads Peel to another flag. Gets caught snorting lines celebrating with his cousin. Freo are forced to terminate his contract for bringing the game into disrepute

Spruik that

For Freo supporters though that would be equalling their most successful achievement ever unless you rank the losing Grand Final higher

I thought you were going to say it takes a special kind of stupid....and I was about to tell you we might have found that, but alas that is not where you are going. Most clubs (ask me about what some of these guys get up to at junior cricket) would take advantage of it if they could. ;) I don't like Peel and I don't agree with them doing it, but as the governing body you've got to take the bullets out of the gun so it can't be used.

The rule in SA from what I understand is that you must play more SANFL games than AFL games to qualify except when long term injury has taken place, then you must play 7 games for the SANFL club to qualify.
Happy to be corrected if this is not right.

I think the important word there, gws, is played, not being named. I don't have a real issue with them nominating an arbitrary figure, of 5, but they must line up at the first siren, in playing uniform, either on the ground or on the bench. How ludicrous is it that they can just be named?

Yes it's bloody ridiculous but it's what I have come to expect. Pretty sad

Playing devil's advocate, I suppose if you upped the requirement to "actually played" then Bennell would have gone through a pantomime performance of suiting up, starting on field then coming straight to the bench as the ball was bounced and hitting the showers.

Yes, but then Peel don't get the dual benefit of naming a bloke who is not going to play, just so he's available for finals AND a full bench.
If the club had to play a player down from the first bounce they would have second thoughts.

I thought they played a man down anyway, Bennell was on the team sheet and present but took no part.

Well, that is my misunderstanding if they did. Looking at the player list he's not named and there are still 22 listed??? West Perth also have 22 listed.

Sorry FiveStrings I am looking at the wrong list, should be reserves....

Yeah he was on the reserves list with donut stats. They had 23 listed players and their opponents WP only had 22, but the other reserves teams all had 23 so I assume the Falcons just played a man short

So, as Keys predicted, WAFL teams are not happy about Fremantle chasing premierships with Peel.

Peel will be able to unleash another super team in the WAFL finals in search of successive premierships in a scenario that rival clubs have branded as disgraceful.

The premiers are on the brink of having eight Fremantle-listed players with at least 50 games of AFL experience qualified for this year’s finals.
The quote from Subiaco compared to the rest of the league is half the reason why they have been so successful.

With all due respect Subiaco have had a huge financial advantage for many years over their rivals, I have no issue with it as any club in their position would of taken advantage of the situation they were in.
They are not worried so much about Peel because they have a side that can match them and good for them.

West Coast has again fuelled speculation they will push for a standalone side in the WAFL in 2018 after the club heavily criticised the WAFL fixture this season in a club article labelling it "terrible" and that it had hindered selection of a number of young and not-so-young players.

The article spoke about the lack of continuity of the fixture with the Royals having played three games in seven weeks and that several players' attempts to push for senior selection has been thwarted by a lack of match time. The players affected included Luke Partington, Tom Lamb and Jack Redden amongst others.

The WAFC has asked to speak to Eagles' CEO Trevor Nisbett for an "explanation" regarding the article.

Love the irony of the player in the picture under the headline about "young guns" being Jon Giles. So fittingly WC that it's a recycled tall

“It is near-on impossible to get the fixture right but the WAFL does the best it can,” East Perth chief executive Dean Turner said. “We also have to align with two West Coast derbies and an AFL bye.”

Interesting that East Perth president, Dean Turner, seems to be distancing himself from the West Coast criticism by highlighting how the WAFL have to align the fixture with AFL derbies and byes

But

East Perth have the most complicated WAFL fixture requirements given their requirement to play three matches against arch rivals West Perth, three against co-tenants Subiaco and three against fellow AFL-aligned team Peel that includes two games that coincide with western derbies.

the requirements for 3 matches against both West Perth and Subiaco that complicate the fixturing would be a EP rather than WCE request you'd think

Not sure who's driving the requirement for three EP v Peel matches

It's hard to see the EP alignment continuing beyond 2018 if it lasts that long

If WCE do go it alone it'll be interesting to see where they play their home games - might have two clubs sharing Lathlain as a home base

We may not get any home games, I think the Crows reserves play all their games away in the SANFL.

Ok

Didnt know that.

Without knowing what might happen it could be cool watching an Eagles reserves side playing in front of the west coast social club at lathlain (assuming there is one of course)

Happy to be corrected if this is not right.

Also have to play 3 SANFL games after June 30.
Development players have to play 1 minor round game.

Of course doesnt matter if ur AFL team is playing on the same weekend

Before the alignment when our players were spread out amongst the 9 teams, the bye was obviously not a big problem since we'd only have a few players at the team with a bye. They could still play during the byes, since at times they were able to play for a different club's reserves team. If a similar arrangement could be made, it could solve the issue, but it'd beat the purpose of the alignment in a way I suppose. They probably didn't really think about it previously since the byes were probably more spread out in the 1st few years of the alignment.

EP games/byes since the alignment

2014 : 8-B-LB-4-B-2-B-6
2015 : 3-B-5-LB-4-B-7-B-1
2016 : 7-B-4-LB-1-B-4-B-4
2017 : 7-B-2-LB-1-B-3-B-7

In 2014 they didn't play a game in a 3 week period when their bye went back to back with the league bye (LB) for the state game

This year has been the worst with all 4 byes sandwiched into a 10 week block through the middle of the season and 3 instances where they play 3 or fewer games before the next bye
