SOUTH FREMANTLE BULLDOGS
The Bulldogs still play out of their home of Fremantle Oval, which has been developed over the last couple of years to make a better football stadium, as well as a community precinct due to it's location in the heart of the port city. The club has returned to red as a base colour on their home guernsey, whilst expanding the chevron motif from a standalone V, to become a cuff-to-cuff wide chevron - with an inverse clash that retains the club's traditional design. The Souths won their last premiership in 2015 - and today boast a list including ruckman Aaron Sandilands, Cam McCarthy, Brandon Matera and Brad Sheppard.
Souths ' lace - up leather ' jumper from the early 80's was the toughest kit I ever saw , it looked like playing against a biker gang w/ the inmates lined up watching from the Freo prison walls

Cheers for the nostalgia

I did try feathering the wings however it didn’t really work as well as I’d have liked. The socks weren’t much of a big decision on the heritage - I honestly thought they wore striped socks back in the day. Also the swan becoming a white swan was necessary for the design to work , the outline looked weak keeping the swan black.
Ah, I can see where that would be a problem.

So did you try the feathers from all the way round the front? That would have been complex.

SWAN DISTRICTS SWANS

Based out of Bassendean Oval, the Swans have been a constant presence in the top half of the league for the last decade, only missing out on finals once since 2009. Swan Districts, in honour of the vast catchment they cover, also play a select number of games at Midland Oval. In 2012, the club removed the stripes from their jumpers and replaced them with a black and white "wings" design, which was controversial to the Swans faithful at the time. Over the years however, during this period of success, the guernsey has become a representation of a positive period in the club's history - including a WAFL Premiership win in 2017. Today's lineup includes some star names including Nic Naitanui, Alex Rance, Stephen Conigilio and Rory Lobb.
Since the Eagles don't exist, it is an original design. I really like what you did.

SOUTHWEST LIGHTNING

Following years of disappointment and bottom-of-the-table seasons, the Peel Thunder went through an overhaul in 2012. The City of Bunbury wanted their own WAFL team to represent the South West region of WA, however were denied. Instead, with investment from the region financially and with player development, Peel Thunder became the Southwest Lightning. Still based out of Rushton Park in Mandurah due to it's closer proximity to the metropolitan teams, the Lightning also play a select number of games in Bunbury at the newly built South West Sports Centre on the main oval with temporary stands set up to accomodate the crowds. During the move, the club also overhauled their guernseys, dropping navy in favour of black and using a brighter shade of teal on a new lightning bolt sash design. The move was a success, as in 2016, the Southwest Lightning won their first ever WAFL Premiership. The current team includes the likes of Lewis Jetta, Nathan Wilson, Harley Bennell and Hayden Ballantyne.
NOOOOO - you have done a great job with it though!

I would love to see what the grounds looked like in this reality.
Wish I could give a realistic glance at how they’d look but I’d probably spend 10x the time on that than the rest of the folio haha.

Ah, I can see where that would be a problem.

Yeah it was originally to be curved “feathers” but it just didn’t look right compared to the original wings.

I would love to see an Albany or Northern WA (Kimberly) team. The Kimberly team would be a bit unrealistic because of their population.

Vic Park is covered more or less by Perth. I'm going to go with Thornlie. The eastern suburbs would be represented by only Perth and Swan Districts with the Royals moving west and the population out that way is a lot bigger than it used to be. Also serviced by a train line.

Wouldn't be the first time I'm wrong
Well your point of the south-east is very valid, and it was essentially the "13th" team (it would have been Canning), but I thought 12 would be the golden number for this, so they've been incorporated into this last team. But you're just about on the money - take from that what you will.

Kalgoorlie could have a team maybe.
I did also consider that, but decided against it - I think they would also come under Geraldton in this instance. Found it tough to keep to 12 teams (anything more would be too many IMO), and I really wanted to avoid mergers or dropping existing teams.

The areas that missed out were:
  • Armadale - playing out of a redeveloped Gwynne Park
  • Canning - playing out of the Cannington Showgrounds
  • City Beach/Scarborough - playing out of City Beach Oval or the WA Athletics Stadium
  • Great Northern (Kimberly Region) - playing out of Haynes Oval in Broome
  • Kalgoorlie - playing out of Sir Richard Moore Oval in Kalgoorlie
  • Midland - playing out of Midland Oval, possibly a Swan Districts relocation

VICTORIA PARK ACES

The final expansion team saw the Victoria Park Aces born in 2008 - a name representing both the close proximity to the Perth Airport (flying aces), and the Burswood casino complex located within the city boundaries. The Aces play out of the suburban Lathlain Park, and entered the league in a striking black and orange striped design - which in the years following has gone from black to navy blue with the stripes being angled representing a plane taking off, in the same way the club aims to take off. The club represents not only Victoria Park, but the Belmont and Canning areas - Canning missing out on a standalone team to Victoria Park when the expansion was taking place, as Albany Highway runs through Victoria Park and into the City of Canning, thus the WAFC deemed that Victoria Park would represent the entirety of the south-east suburbs. Still without a premiership in their short history, the club has the likes of Charlie Cameron, Jake Waterman, Eric Mackenzie and Rhys Palmer on their playing list.

Very striking. Love the front of the home and clash but probably would go a solid colour behind the numbers on the back. I quite like the secondary lines of blue on the home and orange on the clash.

They were originally plain backed but I just liked the stripe pattern too much, and like the idea of the stripes wrapping around. :)

Freight, these designs are amazing and I love the concept too, however I was wondering if with Cockburns rise in population the competition could possibly include them as part of the expansion ?assuming the facilities for Fremantles new training ground and training facilities was to still go ahead only instead being for the Cockburn City football club. I dunno I thought with cockburns rich history in settlers/farmers it would be a neat little concept. I personally would call the team the - “Cockburn City Pioneers” ? But that’s just me. Anyway love the work.
