After a scinitillating state match, this weeks match ups don't look half as appetizing, but I'll do my best to talk them up.

Peel v Swans - after a promising start the wheels have become loose on the Peel wagon, not off yet, because it's far too early for that, just a little bit wobbly. Can they overcome the might of the Swans running brigade, led by the mercurial Jetta and imposing Naitanui. Swans also regain Hinkley but lose Hansen, whilst Peel lose Morabito (to State 18's duties). Ballantyne may be back, so he should provide a big target up forward and around the ground. However, if there is one thing we know, the Thunder can have the happy knack of knocking off the boys from Basso at least once a year. They've already beaten them at Basso so I expect, nay, I demand, retribution on the filthy rats at Peel.

Tigers v Subiaco - both sides gain and lose at the AFL table, with B Jones back for the tiges, with Swift out, while the lions lose Stenglein and Broughton, but regain Cockie. Can the Tigers youngsters keep up their improving form, or will the Lions vets keep them rolling along. Can the tiges sustain the chase, tackle and harrass long enough to reverse the earlier 17 point loss? Will Chad Jones and Richardson get enough of the ball to put scoreboard pressure on the Lions and will Thomson line up on Smith again and do another decent job on him?

Sharks v Bulldogs - this is the big one, the Foundation Day derby, but both teams aproach with paradoxical form, with the Bullies regaining their bite and the Sharkies, well losing theirs. Added to McNamara and Foster being out, so are the state 18's, Sheppard, Lucas and ?, whilst the Bulldogs lose Head but regain Murphy. Murphy will most likely line up against Spangher and kick another bag full of goals, he seems to do that well at WAFL. Farmer looked good in the state team, in patches, so should continue that form and Bell was fantastic, whilst Graham was pretty good. The runners are what the Sharks look thin of with the outs to the Eagles and Freo, so expect it to be tough to match up on the Bulldogs brigade. Sorry Sharks fans.

Falcons v Royals - another derby, this being the non-recognised (except if you're a WP or EP fan, or non denominational) Perth derby. Fremantle (of the SF and EF variety) will argue long and hard that the Perth derby is like a Leprechaun, it simply is a figment of people's imaginations. EP and WP supporters will argue equally vehemently that it is like a Tasmanian Tiger, it really does exist. Either way you look at it, these are usually fierce encounters, with nothing left on the field after the final siren. WP have Seaby back, whilst Campbell, Longmuir and LeCras remain the strike force up front, fed well by Salecic, Chambers, Rice, James, Gaudagnin, Crossland et al. EP have a decent defensive unit but lack some potency up forward, but if they can get Merrington and Tim Noakes on the park at the same time, that will be a sizable step forward. Clarke is rucking well so the duel against Seaby should be fascinating. Wulff will run all day, as will Ben Noakes, Humm, Webster, MacAulay and Travers, et al.

Hope your footy is fine on the weekend and you enjoy a bit of fresh air and some spectacular highlights from this great game.

Great wrtie up once again Swannies!

Are you making ther trek down to Rushton tomorrow for the match? :)

I was going to peterss, but I'm not now.

Peterss Peel -V- Swans Round 10 Review - (Brief Review)

Well i ended up making it down to Rushton today in what saw a reasonable crowd by Peel's standards at the game (I would say 2k or so). Some big Peel Thunder inclusions in Hayden Ballantyne, Dean Buszan, Will Schofield and Quinten Bolton had some thinking Peel were a chance of knocking off last season's runners up.

Peel had the breeze in the first quarter and in my opinion wasted it. 7 behinds in the first quarter when we only had a lead of about 2 goals at the first change definately points to wasted oppurtunities. A Swans goal late in the quarter which was their first of the game would of had the Swans coaching staff happy with their first quarter effort against the Breeze.

The second quarter was all swans swans swans with Peel only managing 3 behinds for the quarter whilst the Swans kicked goals and were accurate infront of goals which is something the Thunder boys couldnt manage kicking with the breeze in the first.

The third quarter started with Swans wanting to continue their momentum from the nd with Peel wanting to get some respect back on the scoreboard and make use of the win in the third quarter and get themselves back into the game - They did manage to get about 5/6 goals in the third quarter but unfortunately for the Thunder so did the Swans.

The fourth quarter started and Peel found themselves 30 points down and kicking against whatever breeze was remaining. The swans started well but the thunder to their credit got the margin back to 13 points which ended up being the final margin.

The Thunder can put this loss down to missed oppurtunites infront of goal sbecause at the end of the day if a side kicks more then 20 behinds for the game your always more chance of losing then winning. Injuries also didnt help with key forward Kain Robbins suffering a blow to the head which resulted in a swans player (I remember his name but cant be bothered spelling it :p the dude with the headband will do) being put on report. After losing a key forward Peel also lost a key defender in Matthew Battye. They then also lost promisng young midfielder Ben Howlett and an early knock to Dean Buszan who had to stay on the ground due to earlier injuries and a late knock to the returning Hayden ballantyne left Peel a man down without being able to make a change on the bench due to injuries with the most serious one being Robbins who was quite clearly concussed and was taken to Hopsital by ambulance as a precaution (Heres hoping he is ok!)

Swans deserved the win and after palying poorly in the first quarter Brian Dawson made some changes and it worked a treat and they played as the Swans should for the rest of the game and continue to send a message to the WAFL that after their slow start to the season they are now back to their best and mean business.

In terms of the Eagles players involved:

Though Nick Nat played a good game - Wasnt dominate by any stretch but certainly continues to press for selection -Whether the Eagles want to bring him in against Geelong or not is another story - I say we do as after all we have nothing to lose.

Schofield was very quite - Only kicked it about twice the whole day i think and had some handballs but that was it.

Jordan Jones had his best game in the WAFL since being drafted - Looks like a good promising prospect for the future - Good last pick selection if you ask me!

Arrowsmith did a few good things through the middle but was unsighted for the most part.

Noote - Was barely sighted in the first half but ended up with 3 second half goals - Good effort.

West Perth win! Campbell with the last kick of the game to put them back in front. East Perth will be feeling shattered after a great comeback from 37 points down in the third.

Laughing at ABC saying that a West Perth fan ran across the ground with a wooden spoon waving it at the East Perth players.

EDIT: Doesn't sound like some fans conducted themselves too well after the game...

Apparently a clash between the East Perth coaching committee and West Perth supporters with David Hynes being amongst the thick of it, expect to hear more about this

Just classy West Perth fans spitting on and throwing stuff at the East Perth match committee and then touching cotton when Hynes confronted them.

There might even be an investigation into a West Perth fan and an incident with Craig Hendrie when he came off at half time.

Bloody umps did their best to hand East Freo the game today

That being said South had their chances but didn't take them in the last
That bloke yelling profanities at the umpire that led to Johns getting the 50 is probably to blame.
Wasn't clever at all.

Fantastic game the derby. At half time it looked like Sowfs were going to run away with it and then Easts, to their credit, got a bit more steel in the clinches in midfield and came back to snatch a thriller. Great round of games this weekend, with the exception being Claremont only able to take it up to Subi for half a match, but certainly not blown away.

Sorry, didn't see it that way Kane. Thought the umpiring was OK on the whole, although I'd like to ask the umpires adviser/coach, where the in the back rule has gone? They pay pedantic, hands in the back frees and yet some bloke can just get saddled and ridden into the ground and no in the back. Saw a couple of ordinary decisions paid both ways though Kane. Like the holding the ball in the southern, right forward pocket. The guy gets handballed the ball and straight away is tackled and rolled over and the umpires deems he could have got rid of it. It resulted directly in a goal for Sowfs.

Oh dear. Wonder what they would have done if Micale had confronted them with his fierce temperr?

Did you see the ressies today Sico? Any feedback on Shuey would be appreciated.

I think i'm just venting, I went to the game with my East Freo supporting mates who made it a point to hit me with the WA football budget everytime East kicked a goal. Needless to say I copped a fair few hits after quarter time :(

That's OK Kane, I'm always venting when Swans are losing or getting run close. Hell, I do it when they're winning.

I would like an umpire to explain the new interpretation of the in the back rule though. It's got me baffled at AFL and WAFL, it's just not being paid?

First thing I did when the siren went?
Ran on the field and shook Courtney John's hand.

It may only have been 5 meters out, but he did take a strong mark that got a 50.
He won it for us.

GO COURTNEY!

He's definitely going to cause a few backlines some headaches this year, will dominate WAFL level
