Brownlow Medallist
Right, it's time to drag myself back out of my depression and look at what's coming up this weekend. If you can't get excited about the WAFL with this weekends fixtures, well you simply don't have a pulse.
As much as I want to start with Swans, gotta start with the match of the day.
Subi v Souths - after seeing Souths (via recorded means on Monday/Tuesday of this week though) demolish Swans and the run they generated I thought, we have a challenger here. It's Subi's precision like passing versus Souths helter skelter run and stun. Subi aren't that quick and that's where Souths can hurt them, however, with their skills Subi will hurt you on the turnover. Broadhurst shapes as a key in this one, IMO, because of his run all over the ground and terrific work ethic. If Wilson or Head can shut him down, whilst others hold Maplestone, Dennis-Lane and Smith, then Souths are away with a win. Sounds easy don't it?.... Should be a cracker if both play to their potential, especially Souths.
Swans v Peel - with big Red coming back in for Swans, I presume, I'm starting to feel a warm and fuzzy feeling! We'll still miss Davis, but Hinkley stepped up last week. Will some more kids be blooded by Swannies or will some experienced players be brought up from the reserves? Which Peel team will turn up, the whipping boys or the team ready to win? Will get to see what Ballantyne, O'Brien and Arrowsmith can produce first hand as well. Should be a good one on a wet Saturday arvo at Basso.
Falcons v Tigers - also shapes as a key match, but the Falcons remain without Kepler but keep Kiwi. Not sure if Warnock came up for this match, but if he is in I can't see Claremont getting over the top of them. If Warnock is out then this should be real close, even though claremont have the staggers almost as badly as Swans, but they are a young side, with the likes of Richardson, McGinnity, Thomson, Ruck. Should be cold and wet up at Joondy for this close contest.
Sharks v Demons - shapes as a contest between 2 teams coming together chock full of confidence. Speaking to Demons supporters they haven't had this much hope in more than a decade, whilst the Sharks have started to string wins together, on the back of losing more players to the AFL. Does this tell us something, are they bonding a little better with fewer AFL players? They lose one of their most influential in the last couple of weeks in Tim Houlihan, but I noticed Liam Anthony produced the sort of football last week that I saw him produce all of last year. Last time they met I was at the game and Perth ran all over the Sharks, but on their own dung heap this shapes as a different game. I still reckon Perth, with a lot of confidence and playing for second spot, should Souths lose, might just get over the line.
There you have it, hope everyone enjoys, I know I will!
(I hope)
