Round 10 was a nearly round for most with a lot of tipsters getting three tips for the round. East Perth's last minute win cost a lot of people four tips while a few others dropped a point after selecting Claremont. Military_man got the bonus point this week though and that boosted his tally to four points for the round.

After 10 rounds it's waflfootyfacts on top with 34 points, myself in second on 30 while gaskin is third with 29. In fourth we have FiveStrings with 28 points while Monocle rounds out the top five with 27 points.

State League Fixture

VFL vs WAFL at North Port Oval (12:10pm WST, 2:10pm EST)

The WAFL takes a break this week with the annual state league game taking precedence for the weekend. The WAFL has knocked off every major state league over the past four years, making it the undisputed best state league in Australia. This year though is the final frontier with the WAFL heading to Victoria to play the VFL, a place where a WA side (either Origin or State League side) has never beaten a Victorian one. The match is being telecast live on Channel Seven from 12pm with bouncedown at 12:10pm (2:10pm local time).

With the state league game on this weekend there will be no tipping so you can all have the weekend off. The fixtures for Round 11 will be posted next Tuesday. Hopefully the WAFL can do us proud on Saturday and finally get that win in Victoria that we've all been waiting for!

Well we're back after the general bye which saw the WAFL thrash the VFL by 63 points in the state league game at North Port Oval on Saturday. It was the first time in 113 years (and first time ever) that a Western Australian based side (either State of Origin or State League representative team) has beaten a Victorian one in Victoria, ending a long drought. Despite the low fanfare of state based matches these days it was a momentous day for WA footy and one that won't be forgotten anytime soon.

With that win the WAFL has won its last five state league games having beaten every other league (including the VFL twice) in that time making the WAFL Australia's undisputed best state league in the country. The WAFL is scheduled for a bye in state league matches next year but talks are underway with the SANFL to potentially play a game next year in Adelaide.

Round 11 Fixtures

Peel Thunder vs Subiaco at Bendigo Bank Stadium (Saturday, 2:15pm)
Perth vs Swan Districts at Lathlain Park (Saturday, 2:15pm)
East Perth vs West Perth at Leederville Oval (Monday 2:10pm, margin)
East Fremantle vs South Fremantle at East Fremantle Oval (Monday, 2:15pm)
Bye: Swan Districts

The season proper recommences this weekend with the Western Australia Day long weekend and a full round of fixtures. On Saturday, Peel Thunder are back at home hosting Subiaco down in Mandurah in what promises to be a fairly entertaining contest while the other Saturday game sees Perth play against Swan Districts at Lathlain Park. Monday sees the traditional Fremantle derby with arch rivals East Fremantle and South Fremantle clashing down at Shark Park in what is always a fierce contest regardless of ladder position. The TV game this week is the Perth derby as East Perth battle with West Perth at Leederville Oval, that match has a slightly earlier start of 2:10pm if you're looking to catch one of the games on the public holiday too.

In the other grades, things are as normal with the Colts and Reserves to get underway at 9am and 11:30am respectively. It's a little earlier for the East Perth vs West Perth derby though with games starting five minutes earlier at 8:55am for the Colts and 11:25am for the Reserves.

The weather is looking okay-ish at the moment. Showers are expected on Saturday but should clear later in the day so we could see both games on Saturday played in relatively dry conditions. On Monday things are looking fantastic with sunny conditions expected, both days are tipped to hit 22 degrees at this point.

Well I hope you all enjoyed the state league game on Saturday (I know I did) and hopefully we'll see some great games of footy on the weekend in the WAFL. I hope everyone has a great and safe long weekend and most of all happy tipping!!

By the way, what are everyone's thoughts on finals tipping this year? In the past we have tipped all matches (League, Reserves and Colts) in the finals but am interested to know people's thoughts. Do we want to keep things the way they are or perhaps tip League only in finals or have no finals tipping but a separate finals tipping comp for fun in the finals series?

I am interested to see what we want to do when the finals do eventually begin much later in the year.

Why not go for a bonus point by picking the margin in the state game?

We used to in the past but we had a few people who didn't tip because there were not any WAFL games on and hence didn't think they'd be tipping for the state league game. It's why I've left it out in the last few years in the interests of fairness.

I'd go for a new comp for the finals. What happens to WC & Fre0 has a lot to do with what may happen.
