Yeah, Just got back from the Swans v Sharks match and saw both Masten and Ryan Davis (I think).

Masten, well, first real time I've watched him very closely and in close he is dynamite! That's where he hurts you. The Sharks led 7 goal to nil in the first quarter and Masten was a catalyst behind this. Kicked a goal and got quite a few clearances. Was OK in the second quarter, racking up more clearances, and probably went missing a bit in the third quarter, then came back solidly in the last. Seems to get lost a bit with what to do in open spaces, seems to really relish it in close and reads the ball superbly. Could have capped off the evening with a couple more goals but missed with snaps.

Davis, if he was the one I think he was (lost my printed sheet of paper) has pace to burn. In one passage he gave Masten 3-4 metres on a loose ball and then ran past him, but Masten accelerated to lay the tackle. That was when I looked at the sheet and thought, who is that? Seems some raw talent there, but overall probably drifted in and out of the game. Looks to have something to develop though.

Went to the WAFL pre-season comp double header tonight, so thought I'd give a run down of some of the boys. The games were Subi v Peel and Swans v West Perth. OK, so there were only 2 playing and they were both with the mighty black and whites.

Tony Notte - My favourite, kicked 2-4 goals, not sure of exact number, but he has an impressive football brain. Got smashed in a marking contest, but he was only in 1 or 2 for the whole night. He knows that's not his gig so he stays out of them. Get the player to put the ball into space in front of him, or over his head, and I reckon 7 times out of 10 he'll win the contest. Still has beautifully sticky hands, as long as he stays out of traffic and body contact.

Ryan Davis - now, this bloke is potentially a real gem to be uncovered. Started off the half back flank where his after burners were on full display. Boy is he quick and spoils really well. Left a few players in his wake on the night, but disposal let him down in the first half, a little. Attacks the ball really well and is prepared to take on players. In the second half and particularly the last quarter, he seemed to be going through the middle, maybe playing off a wing. The passsage of play that decided the game involved Davis coming through the centre, with extreme pace - it was like the red sea opened up for him - few quick steps and bang on the chest of Matthew Spencer. Straight out of the middle. He has a lot of development ahead of him, but the raw materials are there to work with. Really excited me tonight!:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Thanks chrsco, it's not often we get to hear about how the young guys are going in the WAFL, particularly in the pre season.

Notte could end up being the steal of the 2007 draft if his body holds up.

Either him or Ebert:)

Thanks Sico. Saw Notte had enough of it and wasn't on the ground for the whole game! I've got to talk my son into sitting on the wing.:D

Haha it looks so funny seeing Keysers name highlighted. Finally a mod worth respecting................ for now

Could Ryan be upgraded onto the Senior List when Mitch Brown is moved to the long term injury list?

Here is your man, happy_eagle:

Swan Districts V Subiaco tonight for preseason granny, interesting to see how Notte goes against Subi, seeing as he blitzed last week at Full-forward,
Ryan Davis playing aswell.

Anyone know how many of our players will play in the WAFL praccy matches??
im guessing all the first and second year players will.

Kerr needs a run, but prob wont be risked.

Hunter with seven goals in the last quarter. Playing forward all match. BOOK IT. Hunter to play forward next week. Hansen, Lynch, Kennedy and Hunter to test every backline in the league. Add Seaby and Cox and our forward line will be our biggest turnaround this year. ITS A CERT!

Just got back from the Swans v Lions game.

Hunter had a big impact, he kicked 5 of his 7 in the first half and kicked 2.2 in the second for 7.2 overall.

I may have missed a behind here or there though.

He played the first 3 and a half quaters before being benched. It was mostly lead and mark stuff, although there was one goal where he soccered it through after it was evidently already going to go for a goal anyway. Generally he looked dangerous in the forward 50 (played FF the whole game) and the Swans players looked to get it to him long and fast.

He took a few good marks low down and it seemed as though there was no problem with his shoulder.

For most of the game he was maned by a guy called Michael Gallagher.

Another player to note was Ryan Davis, who played the second half of every quater and was benched for the rest. I can't say much about his game to be honest, he didn't get a lot of the ball and really struggled to get into it. I don't think he would've had more than 10 possessions and what he did have was often not too great. Needs to work on his kicking and getting rid of the footy quickly by foot and also needs to learn how to find the footy.

He played mostly off half back but when he played half forward he was gifted a goal after a subi skill error.

For those interested Brad Smith didn't play and I don't think Chick did either. Phil Read did though and he was ok, I can't say I bothered to look for him. Spaanderman also played and he's a very good WAFL player, mainly because he's huge in comparison.

Daniel Rich (highly rated draft prospect for those who don't know) was dominant in the first half kicking 2 goals from outside 50 (subi only had 5 goals in the first half) while also getting plenty of touchs. Richs disposal by foot is amazingly classy, he knows how to find the pill and he does all the tough stuff inside, lays tackles, blocks, bumps etc.

Natinui (spelling) didn't play.

I think that's all.

Anyone know why Tony did Notte play??, Natinui didn't either, saving the young guns for the real thing maybe.

Good to see Hunter through without injury and obviously good touch.

Anyone know how the Freo players went? i know this is the West Coast board. Just hoping to hear something from the people who watched the game.
