Hate being negative after a win and I'm not like an Essendon supporter who constantly ridicules my teams players, I absolutely hate that.....but seriously what is going on with Jarrad's discipline at the moment?

I know it's always been in his game, but some of his undisciplined acts are embarrassing, he tries to lairise when he gets the ball under pressure and when he gets tackled white-hot he somehow tries to break the tackle and never looks to give the ball off, consequently resulting in him dropping the ball and being penalised, he just is so friggen dumb at times and you wonder how is he so stupid some times.

His tackling is really poor as well, it will either be too high or late resulting in a free kick, his kicking in general play has been pretty poor this year, he had a great game against the Cats but he hasn't struck me at all as a good team player in general this year with his indiscipline letting him down.

I think Healy made a good point on the commentary tonight, he said that Waite needs to relax a bit cos he appears to try too hard to impose himself.

He's def a confidence player, and you feel he needs to start really well to have a good game.

Thoughts?

Been much better this year and despite our f50 entries and the constant harassment he gets from the biggest opposition defender he keeps on presenting and is hard at the ball.

Don't know why you'd roast him, to each his own though...

The only criticism I have of Waite is that too often he looks for the short option rather than going back and kicking for goal when he's taken a mark inside 50 and is on a 45-degree angle or better.

Tonight wasn't his best night, but don't feel he deserves his own roast thread based on one game. Especially considering the conditions over there.

Probably our best contested mark. Just wish he'd back himself to kick the goals, and actually kick them too. Needs to spend more time with Walks at goalkicking practice.

I think he's been playing well and doesn't deserve the roast, for him to play like he has despite the colossal scrap-heap that is our forward structure is a credit to him.

I'm def not saying drop him, he's a very valuable member to our team, and can do some amazing things when on, but when will he ever drop the undisciplined acts? They are just so costly, it helps that we're winning that he doesn't get too much criticism. How often does he try and take on a tackle and gets caught trying to break it? His tackling is too crude on most occasions. It's just so frustrating, I'm certainly not roasting him in manner where I'm calling for his head, but he's so dumb, dumb, dumb.

His contested marking has always been pretty strong, but it's once the ball goes to ground where he lets himself down, I just hope he does better to cut it out of his game because if he does we will be so much better for it

Tear my hair out watching Waite play. For one so talented and so important to Carlton, he continually makes fundamental 'schoolboy' errors. They will be part of his package for good I'm afraid. Exhilarating, yet infuriating footballer.

Yep, pretty much.

I'm prob just a hard person to please. I just love the club so much that I want everything to be perfect, but obviously that's not possible

Sure there are frustrating things that happen in football games, but I just feel Waitey can fix this problem, it's clearly a mental thing

I'm not criticizing his game per se cos they were trying conditions, I think he has had a pretty good year overall but he just continually lets himself down with stupidity/indiscipline that is just not on

Prob should have titled the threat "Waite's poor discipline", it's a bit misleading

Waite has been excellent this year.

Was average today in bad conditions.

Rubbish thread.

He has, but he's also reckless with his aggression. He's not getting reported at the very least, but he has a tendency to give away clumsy free kicks.

I love him for that aggression but the balance is not quite right at times.

The balance has gotten much better though.

Couple this with establishing himself as our #1 key forward last year and the added pressure that must bring, and you can imagine how frustrated he would otherwise be getting.

I feel like he's playing out of position - CHF is too in between a role for him. FF or the wing is where he would excel if we're committed to playing him in an attacking role.

Waite is an almost player for mine. He always looks like breaking games open. he'll take 3 bites of the cherry of a fabulous mark, and drop it, he'll dribble a ball at the goals, and it will turn at the last minute, etc.

He always is on the edge of breaking games open, but never seems to be able to do it. That's why he is rated so highly, and criticized so harshly, because he is almost there.

However, He does play a very important role in the team, and is always dangerous. It's unfair to think he'll ever be a star, because IMO, he never will be. Just a very good footballer.

If he'd kicked straight (as he normally does) this thread would not exist, a gun that would make all of the other teams best 22, get some perspective please

well don't be

He just had one of those days. He persented all day but things just didn't go his way with and without the ball. It happens to everyone.

Nothing to really look into.

Great conditions for him today................

I agree 100% with the OP and to all those saying oh well they were tough conditions, you are missing the point. This roast is not on his performances in regards to his ability to mark and kick and how he toiled in such trying conditions, but a comment as to his attitude and mainly lack of discipline. A highlight for this is late in the 3rd 1/4 he took a mark in the F50 and as he was following through after taking it on his chest he took a deliberate step or two to his left so that he could bump an opposition player (Eddie's opponent). He was lucky that he didn't completely collect the player cause he could have easily given a free kick away. He is always complaining about decisions that go against him. He needs to learn a lot from his captain, the great C. Judd.

It is a very rare occurrence when you see Judd complain or talk back to the umpire, he knows there is no point wasting his energy and just concentrates on what he can control and gets on with it. Waite needs to just pay attention to his game and only concentrate on keeping his attention focused to what we all love about him, take strong marks and kicking bags of goals.
