I got a message from our very own mathematician Mod Stabreegus during the day informing me that he had booked his flight for yesterday by accident and I came to realise a couple of things; that I'd be going to the draft stag and the fact he didn't flunk out of Uni years ago could be considered a candidate for 10th wonder of the world, 9th being my moustache.

I got to the new exhibition/convention centre and it was very busy. Recruiters, players, family, friends and losers like myself (well not nearly as fantastic looking as me) filled the foyer. There was a LOT of nervous looking kids, Jetta and Moore taking the cake. Jetta is notably a family orientated person, staying close to his during the preamble.

It's a shame Shepard didn't get to us because his gf/sis....well she's staying in Melbourne so it's still good.

I was told I'd have to wait for my ticket as the lady that was arranging my ticket was bsy until about 6.15 so I wandered around, and recruiters were everywhere, coaches everywhere.....wait.... not ours, where they hell were they, I was gonna practice my spy skills by seeing if I could sneak a listen to them but no chance.

Anyway I eventually made my way into a fairly mpty room and got a prime time spot above Dunstalls bald ass head and all the recruiting tables. I quickly spotted our table and got some photo's (may upload, may put on bedroom wall and dream of Dell).

It then got underway, and before I get any further, SERIOUS Demitriou! YOU'RE THE DUMBEST MOTHER ****ER I KNOW, and I know people who lined up for about 20 minutes behind a parked car in a KFC.

The reverse order is the most ridiculous thing I have had the displeasure of viewing. As soon as Melksham was taken at 10 I may as well have shouted the remaining 9 players because it was obvious. What makes this shit worse is Demetriou thought he'd be a suspenseful son of a bitch when it came to pick one and drain it out, WE KNOW WHO THE **** IT IS YOU PIPE RIDER!

That went down and congrats to the top ten. Here comes the real deal. Melbourne went the Jizz, I mean Gysberts. I was sure Talia or Black was next.....Lucas? Really, you need more mids Carlton? Right then I knew we'd been told Adelaide loved Talia.....

YEP, Talia it is! I spotted him earlier so after viewing Rendell scream into the microphone at record speed (until later), I looked over at a very happy Talia and family.

My Thoughts: I remember thinking back to what I'd seen of Talia and what has been said about him. He's listed as a KPP but I don't see him that straight cut. Could play wing or CHF or CHB. I've got him earmarked for Otten's role. He prefers forward, but is very comfortable down back. Classic Rendell versatility.

Jetta goes as predicted to the Swans, and then Chiefs $2,000 saviour....Howard? Yep, the first 'big' bolter. Then JMP goes, I'm sure PA only took him because they thought we wanted him. Will be interesting to see how he goes, definitely a longer term prospect. Menzel goes as predicted.

During the break Rendell Craigy, Bickers (I think) go over and have a chat to the Talia's and welcome them over. Everyone looked VERY VERY VERY happy, so I smiled too.

The second round begins, and from hgere in is where phantom drafts got r*ped.

Tapscott to the dees got rid of one on the radar, Grifiths, Fyfe and then Bastinac got another off the board. Weedon was bit on a 22 and then the first sorta slider in Stevens.

Essendon then royally **** up and read the wrong number (where are you on this one Choco), they eventually take Carlise. Black slides a lots and Essendon then take a long time selecting Colyer.

****, there goes Bartlett, screw you Voss you were only talking shit re: Ball. Duncan goes and.....

Gunston! Footy is life's mail was right, great work mate.

My Thoughts: His handball is a FEATURE. puts it where the player should go and it's perfect form. A Phil Davis handball. He's very skinny and his kick needs work buyt he's another who could play anywhere. I can't get over his hands. VEry solid pick here.

Ball to the Pies...Boooooooooo! Good luck to Luke, but not Collingwood.

Tutt, Winmar and Long rounder out the second.

Dell and thhe coaches spent a bit of time talking during this break, poor Scully hasn't stopped being interviewed yet, Dunstall is getting his head polished....and not in the good way.

Good pick in Gawn to start the 3rd. Astong, Houghton, MacMillan, Reid, Grimley.....Geelong.....Geelong....HELLO!...finally, KEnnedy, VArdy, Davies Dea....then...

Quick and a mother ****ing flash....Sam Shaw.

My Thoughts: An athletic family orientated Xavier kid. Averaged 20 touches in the U18's for the Chargers. I see him as a rebounding tall defender. Up for the spoil one minute off for a the next, and he's QUICK. Really haven't seen enough to comment, but I love his test results.

Stratton, Harwood, Crichton, Robertson round out the 3rd.

Jack Fitzpatrick is SLIDING, he intrigues me a bit so I'm wordering....Rendell is lounging in his chair like it's Christmas, very, very, very relaxed.

Wait, there goes Fitz, good on him. After him Taylor from the NT, another who intrigued me, Bollenhagen....Extra time by North...w***ers....Norris, Sumner (sorry Drum), T D Lane, Cowan (little value here), Williams....RHAN HOOPER DOOPER to the Dawks, KErr, andother recylcle in SMith to the Saint, damn, wish he went somewhere I liked.....and who is it......

James Craig!

My Thoughts: Easily the best ruck in the champs but questions over his height. But really, this is VALUE here! His leap will help him a lot and his ability to ruck at the AFL level will depend on his ability to developed a MASSIVE tank and good all round skills to hurt his opponent around the ground. Must learn from Ivan re around the ground ruck work as his leap will help the centre square. VEry happy with this pick at this spot.

Sinclair, MArkovic, and Junk time in Adam Crapperson to round out the 4th..

IT's started getting awful quiet and predictable so I made my exit, realising I'd have no chance in hastling rendell or our pick.

Thanks Stab for the ticket, much appreciated!

Can't wait to see photo's, video and hair clippings from the draftee's on Monday...cough cough.

1 couldn't make it

Tres amusing. :)

Oh, and I am sure that no one will be forgetting poor commander's little date mix up for quite a while.

I'm just glad you were able to get in! After I was unable to get back in contact with AFL house I was wondering if they'd got my message with your name :o But alls well that ends well! Well, except for me, who ended up out of pocket and not being able to go :p As for not flunking out of Uni, let's just say I changed degrees a couple of times :D

But yeah, gun report WALL-e, great that you were able to be there and take it all in. I wonder if IddyBiddy got in, we might get a second report!

Very, very funny stuff, you’re a funny man.:thumbsu:

I literally did a tourette guy and fell off my chair in laughter this line was so funny. :D :D

Great stuff Mr Wall. :thumbsu:

Yeah the suspense of who was going to go 1st overall was killing me. Just a masterstroke by the AFL!! :o

Seriously the coverage by Foxtel was deplorable. It was just the top 10 in unspectacular reverse order, followed by a series of interviews with ex-draftees who we have heard of all before. Three recruiters all giggling with each other, two of them liaising as Fox experts, all whilst the picks are announced inaudibly in the background.

Look AFL if you want to make it a spectacle, go from 1-10, pause coverage when a pick is announced and interview a good portion of the draftees. Maybe mic up a table of recruiters and show the footage back later in the show to give viewers an insight into draft happenings. Have some cameras in the homes of players who are not attending the draft and show their emotion with family and friends when they are picked.

And if you are allowing the public there, then try and generate some atmosphere. A lot of empty awkward moments at the beginning.

Well done Wall E great fun post also agree with Neddy36 that Fox coverage was a total shambles and cant be defined what they did wrong as they got it all wrong.

In Rendell's first draft he mistakenly read out the wrong number and Choco wanted the pick disallowed.
he went "number (insert Robbie Tarrant's number) Patrick Dangerfield"
it was Tarrant wasnt it
I think it was who North took. But im not 100% sure

Terrific write up WALL-e, witty and insightful. No doubt that the contributors on this board are the most intelligent, balanced and informed of the forum. Of course I'm including myself in that (humility is the only quality missing here).:D

I was actually outside right until they just about closed the entry.

Went down to the pit where the families were to get my ticket. But thanks again, hopefully you win another ticket next year so you can go, and hopefully that time there's not a stupid backwards thing going.

Be pretty crap watching the Gold Coast pick 8 odd times in one round though ;)

especially if they go in reverse order again
AND Fox Sports speaks over the coverage :thumbsd:

Actually, my recollection is that he got Jacky's number wrong.

I think it was that.

Didn't he read out Jack Grimes' number who'd already gone at 20/21 (something like that) to Melbourne.

That would've been nice. :(
