Warnock: Has a deal been done?
Carlton: Nah mate.
Warnock: Why not?
Carlton: We offered a resonable exchange in pick 24 and they aren't accepting
Warnock: Well that's crap, i'm not even contracted to them anymore, how can they interfere with whereabouts I pursue my career. They're lucky they even get anything!
Cartlon: We know. The AFL wants clubs to be reasonable in trade week and facilitate trades but when you have clubs like Fremantle who persist with unreasonable demands it makes it hard.
Warnock: Well, this is bullshit. They cant force players to go to clubs not of their choice.
Carlton: True, but unless it is challenged this system will remain in place
Warnock: You have the number of a good lawyer?
Carlton: Oh yeah, Dick has plenty of contacts in the legal fraternity.

I though this might've happened last year if Judd didn't get to his club of choice but I suppose Warnock can be the pioneer

One part of that post was blindingly accurate. When a court finds you a guilty party to the biggest illegal cartel arrangement in Australian corporate history, there is little doubt you would have plenty of lawyers in your speed dial.

Dick shares this trait with most underworld figures......

This is fun. Let me have a go.

Warnock: Has a deal been done?
Carlton: Nah mate.
Warnock: Why not?
Carlton: We offered pick 24 and they aren't accepting
Warnock: Youngy reckons Melbourne and Freo have struck a deal with 19, and they're offering me the same money.
Cartlon: We know. But you don't want to go there, you won't win a flag with them.
Warnock: No I don't, so can;t you up your offer?
Carlton: No can do, mate. Freo will cave in, they always do.
Warnock: What if they don't? They are nasty bastards.
Carlton: You can still get home through the draft.
Warnock: But I could end up at Melbourne anyway.
Carlton: True. But they won't take you.
Warnock: I'm not playing for the Eagles!
Carlton: Ha, they won't take you.
Warnock: What about Freo then? I want out of this state!
Carlton: Well, they might be that spiteful I guess.
Warnock: F#@k Me!! This wasn't what you said would happen!!
Carlton: Sorry mate. Can't help Freo being stubborn.
Warnock: (on phone) Youngy, get me to Melbourne now! I wanna hit the Kuta nightspots and I don't want to be uncontracted when I do.

If you believe that ...as that is what a lot of Blues fans post here.
I didn't mean he wouldn't be any good.

Was more meaning that at Melbourne, he won't make a hge difference in the next few years to the competitiveness of their side.

I do agree however that if we don't get him we will be just fine with Hampson, Kreuzer and Cloke.

Will still struggle a bit next year, but even this year Kreuzer did very well against Hudson and Charman.:thumbsu:

Does this whole Warnock situation remind anyone else of the South park episode where Canada goes on strike?

First Freo were demanding the world (pick 6) for Warnock, then it slide down to being a first round pick and now its a low second rounder... just as long as its below pick 24. i'm betting they'd accept pick 23 if we somehow managed to get it off Essendon. They've put up a demand that they want more than pick 24, now the reality has hit that it isn't going to happen and their pride won't let them lower their demands and accept 24.

Has it come to a stage where we're going to have all Freo supporters half priced Bennigan's coupons and a gumball each?

No??

have all of the Hawthorn types on here earlier saying:

"carlton was holding a gun to freo's head and that we should up our offer"

headed over to the ROK thread to say that Sydney are never going to get pick 16 and that they are being obstructuive and are standing in the way of a player getting back to his chosen club??

Why dont you offer them pick #24 and pick #56

Fremantle has been insisting that Warnock is worth a first round pick, while Carlton has been just as adamant that their early second round pick is correct. Talk from outside the clubs has speculated that the side issue of players or additional picks has been the problem, but Icke said it was nothing that complicated.

"No, no, no. The sticking point is that they don't think that 24 is fair and reasonable."

Finnally the truth has come out.
Its about time carlton offered something on top of pick 24, no doubt they will finally offer fremantle something extra tomorrow.

It won't be a top 20 pick though.

Pick 24 is fair. If they want more, well there is nothing that is little enough to give. Bower/Browne/Armfield are all too promising to 'throw in' with a low 2nd round pick.

When has anyone from Fremantle publicly stated that they wanted pick 6? Do you have a direct quote?

I'm very doubtful:thumbsu:

Freo will bend over im afraid.

Pick 24 is better than nothing, they'd be stupid to let him go in the Pre-Season draft. :thumbsu:

But pick 17 or 19 is?

Look back at previous drafts and tell me the big difference between players taken at 19 vs 24?

Freo have to admit that while 24 may not be quite high enough, it is closer to his value than 6, and we aren't able to offer anything else.

Armifield and Browne are first year players and hence cannot be traded. Bower would be rated by most Blues fans and the club as more valuable than Warnock to us in a straight swap, so no way he'll be thrown in on top of pick 24.

Freo - take 24 and maybe Benjamin or Blackwell or both, or lose him for nothing. Simple.

Do Freo supporters genuinely believe Melbourne will needlessly give them Pick 19 if the Warnock deal with the Blues falls through?

I'm sure Melbourne's administrators are nice guys, but I doubt they do charity.

There are some *Melbourne* fans who think that. Can you imagine the conversation...

"Good news Jim, we've signed up Robbie Warnock"
"Brilliant, how did you do it?"
"Well for a while it looked like he might end up in the pre-season draft, but we managed to talk them round to pick 19."
"You EEEEDIOT!"

You do realise that the rules have changed and Warnock can now enter the national draft and be drafted by any club? If Melbourne want to guarantee that they get him, they have two choices. Trade for him (pick 17 or 19) or take him with pick 1. What would you prefer?

...and so the preperation for failing to get him begins.

We say 6, you say 24, we say 17 and you say 24 ...you see you are just not playing this game right.

Maybe they should offer Pick 6 & 24 chuck in Marc Murphy, Gibbs as sweetners for Freos 4th rounder and the Wiz, this Warnock must be a future sensation.

What trade the Wiz .....no deal denied? ;)

Is that a quote from 2004, 2005, 2006 or this year?

So by your logic, if we had come out initially and said "Pick 40".......then you would think 24 is fair value?

Doesn't that therefore put Carlton in the box seat?

If he's in the ND, Carlton will probably take him @ pick 24.

Melbourne are seemingly reluctant to offer pick 17 or 19 and would presumably be equally unlikely to take him in the ND (depending of course on what was available at those picks).
