Warnock

Two things to consider....

If Warnock was considering leaving us, and willingly went into that meeting... under contract and especially after all the time we put into him and the respect of giving him earlier surgery, then **** him. I personally don't want a player that doesn't want to play for us, that would wave the flag during a season.

If Warnock was as reported 'ambushed' then the Melbourne Football Club are pieces of shit.

Kerr and/or Brown being on the search for a new club could be bad news for us too. Quite often all the clubs stand back until the biggest deal is done, then swoop on other players. IIRC player managers wanted trade week re-jigged because everyone was waiting for the Judd deal last year and some players didn't get swapped in time.

We want Warnock to be the biggest name on the trade table, if Kerr and Jonathon Brown are availble Warnock will be third on most Victorian clubs list of priorities driving his price down.

Not to mention that his manager may be a little busy with the Kerr deal too. Wonder how that works? Which of your high profile clients becomes the priority?

It would be interesting if we the Eagles finished last.

If Warnock leaves West Coast and Freo could do a deal to look after each other in these situtions so we dont get screwed by Vic clubs.

So if Warnock said I will nominate for PSD Freo could say go ahead you'll just end up at the eagles.

Then someone from the eagles says publically we would love Warnock at West Coast.

Puts the pressure on the player to start dealing fairly or he gets screwed over.

Obviously it will only work if the other club rates the player which i think West coast do.

That's all good but your club won't do that. Not sure but think that they publicly stated that they're not interested in him

Certainly wouldn't hurt for you guys to mention that you have plenty of capspace and that you can never have too much ruckmen, and for Harvey to bring up Kerr's name.

The problem there is that the player doesn't do any dealing. Kerr/Warnock/Whoever will decide which club they want to play for and it's between the two clubs to sort out a deal. If we get shafted it won't be Warnock's fault but because Melbourne offer a crappy trade.

Chris Judd's probably the first player in history to ask prospective clubs what they plan to trade to make sure the club he's leaving is adequately compensated.

West Coast will be okay though because Kerr's contracted. Andrew Walker and their first rounder is the rumour which looks reasonable.

Looks like Schwabby has had a change of heart and is going to be announced CEO at Melbourne this afternoon. Is this a good thing or a bad thing in regards to Warnock? I really can't see him screwing us over too badly, but then, I thought CC was a good guy too, and how wrong I was there :(

oh jesus like that was never going to happen....

I reckon Schwabby will be just as happy to screw us over as not - he has new employers to impress now.

New job as CEO at a club finishing last. Hmm, sounds familiar.

His most recent first job as New CEO was to trade away pick 1 to impress his new employer. I'm hoping he keeps up that tradition.:thumbsu:

I reckon the AFL would have been behind it IP. A bit like when he came to Freo. Melbourne are a total basket case and no one is interested in the job. Schwab knocked them back and Fox knocked them back twice - if they are saying it's too hard, why would anyone less experienced take it on? Schwab has probably been given a job to do by the AFL, with another more attractive job with them in a couple of years.

I don't think he's ever been one to really screw people over either, he understands that you don't burn your bridges in this industry, because you never know when you may need that support again. Come on Rip, where are you when I need some reassurance here????

You are of course right Chook. We do a good enough job of screwing ourselves over .

It is ultimately up to the players themselves whether they want out or not, but it is not beyond the realms of possibility that some of ours may actually respect Swabbie and CC.

Interesting times ahead.

WHAT A PIECE OF SHIT!!!!!

I guess when I told him at Macca's last game
to **** off back to Melbourne he took it literally. :D

Gee Dom, starting to worry bout you. The above post is simply 15 :D's away from being a B2BW plagiarism.

Quite a few said Robbie could be taking over the number 1 ruck position at Freo for the current year. He is a huge potential and we have wrapped him in cotton wool for the past two years.

If Robbie was in the national draft then what would he be worth? I would say around 15, He is a ready to go ruckman with his whole career ahead of him and has already shown he can make it in the AFL.

I agree that if we got offered a crap deal then tell them to stick it.

Sanity should prevail and Connolly and Schwabb will not arrange to take him in the PSD as they would lose all credibility in the football community and the AFL would not want that kind of contraversy hitting the headlines. It would be a stupid strategy for Melbourne to take IMO.

They were? He'd be lucky to make it to round 10 playing as a #1 ruckman. All it will take is a few well aimed knees or knocks to the ground and he's in trouble. He doesn't have the bulk to compete with other #1 ruckmen yet.

I agree that this is the most likely scenario.

This entire thread just illustrates how backward the AFL player movement system really is.

I mean a player can literally leave a club with nothing. Whereas in most professional leagues there is a trade window to ship the player off before they are out of contract.

AFL seriously need to get with the times, the useless players association doesnt seem to do much either.

My hope is that Warnock does a sign and trade, signs a 1 year deal with Freo and then they trade him to his desired club.

We could have done that last year. The eagles will probably do that with Kerr.

I think the system is fine, how many quality players have entered the PSD leaving their club with nothing in exchange? Nick Stevens and ????

Yes, but the fact that it can happen very easily is the worry. All Melbourne have to do is say no to every trade offer.

Also last year was to early to trade Warnock. What I'm talking about is during the season when its apparent that he's not going to re-sign, kind of like the transfer windows in soccer.

Your actually happy with a one week trade period? It's unfair on players and limits their careers.

Now that Schwabb has arrived at the "D's" and his opening comments go straight to the heart of their problem, "They are Broke", maybe the speculated above market value for Robbie will be withdrawn? Here is what was reported:

MELBOURNE'S football team will be compromised in its ability to compete until the club is beyond simply trying to survive financially, new chief executive Cameron Schwab said yesterday.

"Producing great players and great football teams … will be compromised in the shorter term, I think, because it has to be. Because securing the club requires that, but we can't be looking back in five years' time and still be compromising that aspect of the organisation," Schwab said.

"It is absolutely about survival, no question. The first stage, it is survival, it is about securing its next salary payment, securing its next rental payment, but then, over time, it's about building a club which can sustain itself without having to go and convince the AFL of the need to support it the way it does.
