It really depends on the issue.
If you have an emergency, you're better off going into the public system because they have all the specialist teams on site ready to go pretty much at any moment. This is the opposite of the private hospital system where instead they call in specialists to consult depending on the situation.

I learned this the hard way back in 2019 when I got Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Stumbled into a private hospital's emergency department in Adelaide on a Friday arvo, thinking that being a private patient my issue would be expedited. Instead, I didn't see a neurologist until Tuesday evening and in that time I went from being extremely wobbly on my feet on the Friday to being paralysed from the neck down by the time I saw the neurologist. Had I gone to the RAH that Friday arvo instead I would have been seen by the neurology team that evening and treatment would have started and things definitely wouldn't have gotten to the point that they did! Even as I got worse the nurses told me "you picked a horrible time to get sick!" Implying that the weekend was a dead period for the private hospital and that I wouldn't be properly seen for a few days anyway. In hindsight I would have moved to the RAH immediately at that point.

The irony was that the neurologist who saw me in the private hospital was actually one of the heads of neurology at the RAH anyway.

If you have an issue that is run of the mill elective surgery though, the private system is far superior simply because you won't have a mile long wait list to deal with. I've had patients at my work (I work in healthcare) who have been on the public waitlist for a new hip, and in that time they go from being relatively functional to not being able to walk 20 metres up the road to get their newspaper in the morning. Going private removes that wait time and as such, one's quality of life isn't as reduced.

It's a point graphically made in a scene in the TV series This Is Going to Hurt, which while a drama/comedy is based on the diaries of Adam Kay a young intern in the UK health system.

Geez what school has 7 in their class?
My grandson has 26, and this is a Catholic school, primary.

Not uncommon to see low numbers in regional areas. A patient of mine did year 12 last year and her class was a meager 4 students.

Having done a few recent tours of 5 private schools preparing to enrol my kids, most class sizes in primary vary anywhere between 20 and 28 depending on the school. And quite often when the class size is on the higher end there is an SSO in the room to assist the teacher.

My grade one class consisted of several grades in one room, one teacher, who was excellent, and about 4 of us grade one's. I came top, btw. 😂

I was in a combined Reception/Year 1 class for my first year of school, and of the 18 (or thereabouts) kids in the class only me and one other student were in Reception - the rest were in year 1. 27 years later I still see him regularly now, had him over for brunch last weekend and he's my son's godfather.

Friendship by convenience :tearsofjoy:

Funny how things work out - when I started work at 16, a girl who worked at the same organisation, but a different job and a different office, happened to share the same lunch room as me. We ended up sharing a flat together and many moons later we are still the very best of friends. Happy days 😊

My entire school was housed in one big room in a single storey building.
Had an enclosed verandah for bag storeage plus an ante room for general storeage and a fridge, to keep the daily milk drop bottles in for morning recess distribution (silver top bottles with cream on the top portion of the neck).

Highest enrolment was when I was in grade 1 - 28 students in total. Lowest was 13 when i was in grade 6.

Only two of us in my class when I was in grades 1 and 7.
And I was the only one in grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

I was also dux of the class every year  :sneaky: Just a superstar!

And they reckon us Port supporters haven’t got the brains God gave lettuce. 😂

Is Tredrea going to actually effect change?
The night time record at Adelaide Oval, goal kicking, team selection, tactics and overall game plan need major improvement.

What KPIs is he actually setting for the football program and people like Davies?

Rome wasn’t built in a day.

They’d be barely tolerating him as he is, let alone actually listening when he raises any pertinent points that don’t mesh with the prevailing belief that the sun shines out of Ken Hinkley’s blurt.

There is a town less than 10 minutes from where I grew up and therefore under an hour from Adelaide where grades 1 - 7 were in the same classroom with 1 teacher, and where the total number of students for most years averaged between 10 and 15.
Contrary to the opinion of some it wasn't in the horse and cart or bullock dray era ;), jet planes could be seen in the sky every day, most families had a motor vehicle, and there was a daily passenger rail system to the city.

There were plenty of similar towns with very small schools in country SA until the formation of what became Area schools where kids from the smaller towns were bussed into the school of the nearest `big' town.

Anyway back to the main topic :), I suspect Tredders is taking time to observe the machinations of the board and the club as a whole before he will make any recommendation re the hoped for changes, so I'm keeping the faith!
