Not a great suggestion.I dont think players should be rubbed out of a gf for a one week offense. No way - inordinate punishment.
The system we have now is shit - the organisation in charge of it - is gaming it so people arent rubbed out.
Simple solution - 3 for 1
Last year trent cotchin should have had a 1 match suspension - he can take one match in the gf - or 3 next year.
Or if he retires 3/22 x his salary.
Voila - you kill a few birds with one stone here.
1)Noone wants stars rubbed out of gfs.
2) being rubbed out of a gf is how much more of a punishment than a season match
3) the afl corrupting itself to ensure stars play
4) players maybe going a bit harder than they normally would thinking the afl will let them off.
A player would accept 12 weeks the following year, maybe even the full season of home and away games, if it meant they could play in the Grand Final.
When you're playing in a Preliminary Final you are playing for high stakes. High risk, high reward and all that - you do the crime in a big Final, you do the time by missing the bigger game the following week.
