Watts names St. Kilda

it sounds like fergus certainly has some tickets on himself

i'd put my money on a 3 or 4 way trade, it sounds as if the saints are pretty keen to get him (and they can have him for all I care) but don't really have anything of significance to offer, so enter another club/s

i don't think carlton would be a certainty to pick him up in the psd

In my opinion, if the trade is not good enough, let him walk.
Carlton may not be able to afford the price he wants (to get to the Saints) with their money problems, so Collingwood get your cheque book out. ;)

If he does end up with the Saints perhaps a letter (from an unknown source) to the AFL suggesting draft fixing could be arranged. :thumbsu:

Sounds like a job for a Port Power official. ;)

We need to hold firm on our demand of a high first rounder minimum. If the Saints wont pay it, they dont get him, simple as that. We should send him to the PSD rather than let the Saints have him cheap. I have a feeling they want him a lot more than their making out, and ultimately come Friday next week, they will produce what we're after.

If not, he isnt going to enjoy life at the Blues, Pies or Hawks for a couple of years with no guarentee he will ever get to St.Kilda. Hopefully by the time he does get where he wants to be, their window of opportunity on the premiership clock has passed and he spends the rest of his career wondering if he should have stayed and played finals with us. Oh and hopefully an AFC premiership or two will rub salt into the wound, for good measure.

I sense Karma the vengeful elephant is waiting around the corner for Turdguts Twatts, classless people like him ussualy get whats coming sooner or later.

Well the good news is that Fergus and St Kilda (presumably) want each other a lot more than Collingwood and Nick Stevens did. They are much more likely to deal properly. Expect a 3 way trade, I'd say - and I'd be surprised if St Kilda haven't already got something in mind, knowing they've got naff all draft picks.

I know this crazy but - Koschitzke?
Not a chance in hell.

The more I think of it, the more i'm coming to the conclusion that recrtuiting Watts was yet another drafting blunder by us. Recruiting a kid, whose did is the CEO of another club, was always going to be fraught with danger.

Let's hope we can finally get a few right in the next couple of years.
If I remember correctly, his dad wasn't CEO of the Saints when we first drafted him. That wouldn't have been part of the equation.

Goddard seems to be the player most expendable, the Adelaide Crows DO NOT want Goddard so maybe the St Kilda Football Club can trade him for a top 10 pick and a pick 20-30 (for them self)

So St Kilda get a pick 6-10 and pick 20-25 for Brendon Goddard, trade the pick 6-10 for Fergus Watts and a deal is done.

Suitors for Goddard.

Melbourne would have a draft pick to suit there needs
Richmond (but I doubt they would trade that first pick)
Essendon (same as Richmond)

3 way trade

St Kilda- Adelaide - Melb

Watts- Pick 6-10 - Goodard.

The biggest negative I see in this situation is that there are no obvious trades with the Saints. Although, I like Cro-mosome's suggestion of a three way with Goddard and Carlton's second pick.

On the positive, he has named a club that can not get him in the PSD so must come up with a decent trade. And as was said in the first or second page of this thread, the fact that Jim Watts is CEO and the Saints have already obviously signalled to Fergus that they want him, there is emotion involved. I could be wrong but I can't see the Saints not trying really hard to come to the party on this. The CEO wants the deal done. They've already established that they want him. Fergus going in the draft would be a big disappointment for Watts senior and the Saints. And that's something they won't let happen easily. Don't read too much into any first offer from the Saints. They aren't going to put their best offer on the table in day 1.

StKilda will struggle to give the Crows anything near a decent offer. Goddard in a straight swap would be closest, however the Saints have too many talls and not enough midfielders, and giving away a quality (albeit underperformed) player like Goddard for yet another key position player seems ludicrous.

I cant see how StKilda will come up with a decent offer.

One thing's for certain. If StKilda get Watts, Gehrig will "retire".

Taking my Adelaide Crows supporters hat off for a second and trying to look at the Fergus Watts situation from a somewhat unbiased point of view.

I cannot see how Fergus is going to come out on top in this situation unless he becomes a star from day 1 (Round 1 2006) next season. He is a 20 years old arrogant young man with a whole 5 games experience. He has made a very public announcement that he wants to return to Victoria and play for the club his father is employed at.

The Adelaide Crows are not going to allow him to be traded for anything less than a first round draft pick @ 14 (believe it or not).

It is his prerogative to play for whom ever he wishes and wherever he wants to that were not a problem with me. Going back Victoria and selecting to play for St Kilda where his dad is CEO could ultimately be a huge mistake, purely by all the expectations that are going to be placed on him and the media attention that is already brewing about his trade.

His dad is the CEO of the club he has asked to be traded to, speculation is going to be riff that he has prearranged a trade with his son and management to get him to St Kilda. Most Victorians football supporter are not morons (as much as we would like to believe) and when he is playing against there club will heckle him and give him a hard time on the fact that he walked out of a club (in a dubious manor) and is looking like a mummies boy (who still lives under the thumb).

The expectations are going to be even bigger if he enters the PSD and gets picked up at number 1 by Carlton, he may believe that he has served his AFL apprentership but it will still take him at least a year and a half before he is playing consistent football and in that time his playing confidence could be shot to bits.

Good luck with your AFL career Fergus.

May God Save the Queen because nothing will save Fergus Watts from being a laughing stock of the AFL if he fails.

Kosi - No. Won't happen. Goddard - maybe?

just maybe said:
Wrong. We look like absolute bloody idiots for getting nothing, exactly like Port did.

Port claimed they will now be shown 'respect' for losing Stevens for nothing. They didn't, and no one gives a crap, and everyone else just laughs at them for getting nothing.

There is NO win in pride here. I'd rather develop a good kid with pick 17 than get nothing, if that's what it comes to.

Don't agree. I am happy to cut off my nose to spite my face. I would tell him that St Kilda is the last place he will be going to.

I would tell him to find Princes Park in the street directory but not to bother leaning the club song. He wont be singing that for a while.

Err, I could be wrong, but for those Crows fans getting cranky about Watts wanting to leave, isn't this the same as Thomspon leaving the Demons last year?

Highly rated player who hadn't played much, club didn't want to let him go?

I know you lost Steingline, but from what I've seen of Thompson you got yourself a gun midfielder, big unit too!

Anyway, would Motlop for Watts seem fair to Crow fans?

I heard that the Saints only offered a 2nd round pick.
Its a start. Now all they have to do is attach something of value to it, like their first pick or a player of some note and it a done deal.

If a second round pick is their final offer, watch young Fergus stride out in the navy blue next season.

I have a feeling the offer will increase significantly by next Friday.

If I part of the leader ship group at the AFC I would get Mark Ricciuto and Ben Rutten to have a friendly word to the baby when he goes to clean out his locker on Monday or this week some time. I would king hit him and tell him that every time he touches the ball or takes a mark he will get a few hard knocks to his back or head and just so he knows what is coming in the future.

That assumption is a good chance to happen. They should not settle for a deal before the last day of trade week and make sure we get either a pick or player that will get us a quality midfielder or a KP forward nothing else like a third tall which we do not need. This is a great test for the recruiting and trading department and for those who say they do a good job. Saints will want him and will be willing to do a bit extra than normal to get him and we should have our eyes on a player of kosi's potential if they want ferg. This we almost certainly not happen though going by our previous efforts.
Jack, I think you need to go back and ask your shrink to prescribe you something stronger than what you are currently on. The medication is obvioulsy not right since you are coming up with bizzare suggestions of Kozi for Watts. Get heads out of hte cloud Jackie, you are starting to worry us.

Why let the facts get in a way of a good story.

When we drafted Fergus, his dad was NOT a CEO of St. Kilda. When we recruited Fergus the CEO of St. Kilda was Brian Waltron (sp??????) who is now a CEO of the Melbourne Storms.

Thats all well and good, but it doesnt always work out that way. I couldnt give two ********s what any 'guru' on bigfooty thinks and I barely read the trading board - you should know that I come to my own conclusions on things Stiffy. You may want a top 6 pick for him, but in my opinion (just my opinion), youll be very lucky to get that. At 23, no injuries, 20 disposals a game average and 10 years left Nick Stevens should have gone for a top 5 pick too but it didnt work out that way.

The two main places he will probably end up are either Saints or Carlton...and Id say you'd be lucky to get pick 6ish from either of them.

I agree. We are no chance in hell of getting pick 6 for him.
