Heard on Mark Aiston's show on 5AA this morning that while the Crows are keen for Carey to play from the goalsquare, that Carey is keen to play at CHF to prove that he is still the best CHF going around. When Mike Sheehan was told this in a later segment on the same show, he said that he saw that as a good sign that Carey was set for a good year as his confidence and arrogance was back and that plus his ability made him the great player that he is.
I personally think the Crows are the ones that have it right as we already have a good CHF in Mark Stevens and a marking FF is what has been lacking in our structure. Also I think it would prolong Carey's career to 3 maybe even 4 years more whereas IMO he would struggle to see out 2 at CHF due to the physical pressure a CHF receives. Plus from the goal square he would have Ronnie Burns hanging around to swoop like a seagull on a hot chip for anything that Carey doesn't mark.
A reasonable compromise may well be to play Carey essentially at FF and Stevens at CHF, but allow them to alternate for short periods during a game, as Stevo is no slouch as a leading or marking FF either.
Your thoughts?
