The Stars didn’t win once when chasing this season - absolutely smart decision by the Scorchers to bat first upon winning the toss

They def missed Kapp when she had to return for international duties, and don’t seem to have planned for her absence as they really did seem reliant on her from a bowling perspective earlier this season, and even just her presence

Throughout her international career, Lanning was known for her strength when chasing, but I’m not sure that’s really been on display this season

It’s great for the Stars to be back in finals for just the second time, but they may need to look at a few things and see what tweaks they can make ahead of next season. And I’m still not sold on Sutherland as captain - 54* in the first match, and from the next 10 matches she only passed 20 twice with her second highest score for the season being 29. She was better in the bowling department this year with 11 wickets compared with just 7 last year, but still way down on her 23 & 21 wickets the 2 seasons prior to that

I don't hate it but I'll say this, the Gades came where again? Danielle Wyatt Hodge took a Canes side to basically red hot favourites. Not saying it's a howler but not sure a best player should be coming from a side that misses the playoffs.

Surely the best player is the best player regardless of where the team finishes - the teams performance shouldn't take away from the individuals efforts and it's not like the umpires are going to review votes at the end of the season to adjust them as per the ladder

Wareham finished the season with:
277 runs from 9 innings, an average is 39.57 and SR of 147.34, plus
19 wickets at 10.94 across 10 matches, with an economy rate of just 5.47

Here's the top 5:

WBBL Player of the Tournament top five

1. Georgia Wareham (Renegades) – 25 votes

2. Meg Lanning (Stars) – 24

3. Sophie Devine (Scorchers) – 22

4. Danni Wyatt-Hodge (Hurricanes) – 22

5. Beth Mooney (Scorchers) – 20

Besides, Wareham is the 4th winner from a team to finish outside the top 4 -

Last year I thought Matthews would have been in with a chance:
  • 324 runs from 10 innings, ave 40.50 with a SR of 130.64, plus
  • 14 wickets at 17.78 and economy of 6.98

But she didn't finish in the top 5

Voting procedure - The WBBL and BBL Player of the Tournament awards are decided by the standing umpires in each home and away season match, with each submitting votes on a 3-2-1 basis.

This is why I hate young quicks coming on before they mature. Tayla was the same pushed too hard

Holly Ferling is another - made her ODI debut barely a month after her 17th birthday, and within 7 months she had made her Test and T20 debut

She dealt with stress fractures in her back, an elbow injury that kept her out for a year and was there then a foot or heel injury?

She was a promising young quick, and we never really got to see the best of what she could offer due to the injuries

I know we don't want to discourage younger players and reward those who are deserving of selection, but do they need to look at introducing restrictions such as a games limit to help reduce the load on their bodies?

I’d go with a games restriction under the age of 18 of 1 game on 1 game off and as a bowler no more than 1 game in a week.

I'll be honest, havent watched since the WAshes - pezdawg hitting the gym? She just did an interview and the levers were looking good. She's already stupidly good enough without bulking up the levers

Sixers
Ellyse Perry, Sophia Dunkley, Alyssa Healy (wk), Ashleigh Gardner (c), Amelia Kerr, Maitlan Brown, Mady Villiers, Erin Burns, Lauren Kua, Courtney Sippel, Lauren Cheatle

Scorchers
Beth Mooney (wk), Katie Mack, Maddy Darke, Sophie Devine (c), Freya Kemp, Paige Scholfield, Chloe Ainsworth, Alana King, Lilly Mills, Ruby Strange, Amy Edgar

Sixers won the toss and are having a bowl

Did Devine really deserve to be in the team of the tournament?

12 innings for Devine this tournament, a total of 201 runs (including tonight) but 86 of those runs have come against the Gades

That leaves 115 runs across her other 10 innings at an average of 11.5

It then gets somewhat worse for her when you take away her 49* against the Strikers, leaving 66 runs at 7.3 from her other 9 innings

It's really been an all or nothing season from Devine

Does someone have a view of Heals pre and post Aussie captaincy? Feels like she's been extremely inconsistent since she took over the role

Been awful for 2 years aside from the random purple patch before getting injured again in the World Cup.
