Its taken a while, and we have shown glimpses but I reckon we are getting our "pressure" mojo back.
As Jim Morrison sang, "Mojo Rising", and if we can knock off those croweaters, our season will be back on track. Forward line still a big problem, but if Zac Clarke is good for 3 goals, we are getting more unpredictable. Heave-Ho !

I wouldn't say that. We had some real defensive deficiencies yesterday. In all honesty, we probably should have lost. WC essentially kicked themselves out of the contest, and there were periods where they dominated and cut through our zones easily. Granted, it much better performance compared to the last couple of weeks, and let's be honest who doesn't enjoy a derby win? But I'd say we're still a long way off of where we were last year.

Young Zaccy will get plenty of confidence from yesterday

I wouldn't say we probably should have lost. Yes WCE kicked themselves out of it, but we regained ourselves in the third quarter and took advantage of WCE's woeful kicking. We kicked 6 goals straight after WCE failed to capitalise on their dominance around the ground so I'd think we definitely earned the win. It wasn't A+ spectacular footy but we deserved the win.

I wouldn't go that far.
We struggled against the Weagles for god sake. The channel seven broadcast kept showing this stupid pressure gauge. By the end of 3rd Qtr they were saying we were equal to our 2013 teams pressure!! We are no way near as good as we were at the end of last year.

I'm happy that we snapped out of that crappy second quarter lull and that some of our mid tier players had good games, but lets not kid ourselves. If we are going to beat the comps best we are going to have to get significantly get better.

The game was a positive, but lets string a few together before we start booking Sept flights.

I agree, it was great to get the 4 points but should of won by 10 plus goals, especially after that dominant first quarter. A lot of players gained a lot of much needed confidence i.e. Mayne, Clarke, Sutcliffe and DeBoer. Although an ugly win at least the curve is trending upwards again and hopefully continues to.

Very true. Losing Zac Dawson meant that Chris Mayne went to Darling and that cost us big time in the forward line, as Pav was playing up the ground. Those misses by Mzungu, Crozier, Ballantyne, Pearce and Fyfe could of really hurt us.

It would have been a disgrace if we had of lost that game as we had 111 more disposals than them, took 53 more marks than them, had 16 more hit outs than them, had 7 more inside 50's than them, had 17 more contested possessions than them, had 5 more clearances than them, however our scoring efficiency was at 41% whilst theirs was 51% and they had one more scoring shot than us.

We were very good against Collingwood, Essendon and the Gold Coast and very ordinary against Sydney, Hawthorn and North Melbourne.

This game yesterday was in between for mine.

Barlow will be better for the run. Hill back in.
Zac has to perform with Griff & Keplar breathing down his back.
Lachie Neal, Suban, De Boer etc need to perform with Sylvia, Morabito coming in to the mix.
I may be calling it early, but I'm calling it.'
Beat the croweaters, and we are back on track !

I think Ross's style is to build up form throughout the season, aiming to peak at the pointy end, or as he said in the presser, 'We’re just a team trying to work our way up to the starting grid for the real season.' As long as we can weather the storm of the difficult start to this year, we can build up some momentum following the bye rounds.

Don't underestimate just how hard WC went at us in the second quarter. As was proved the intensity they produced was unsustainable over 4 quarters.
Games ebb and flow these days, how often do we see one team go 6 goals up and then get reeled in?
A lot of games these days come down to how well you hit the scoreboard during your period in the ascendancy.
Teams have to manage their effort over 4 quarters and we did it better yesterday but as Lyon said in the presser we are a long way off our best football.
But it is building. We just have to win one of the next 2 and then ramp it up after the bye toward September.

Don't agree with this thread, very premature to say at this point. Winning momentum builds confidence and i'll be more confident after half a dozen games where the drop offs for a quarter have been completely quashed (Particularly the last qtr - which until last week we'd always be a mickey to win if we're in it at 3 qtr time).
In terms of team pressure and defense - this year is nowhere near the lofty standards we built for ourselves in 2013.
At the moment i'm not confident which team will rock up each weekend, and that's saying something in itself.

Aren't you the negative Nancy. The positive among us have already booked.

WC are pretenders, they have beaten no one of any great significance, lost to Carlton all the while having a fairly healthy and available playing list - they'll be lucky to play finals.

Freo should of smashed them by 10 goals plus.

Port Adelaide a HUGE test for us on Saturday.

Lots of positives from yesterday's game but the Eagles are struggling worse then us and so it was always a game that we should have won, back it up against a team that is currently in form like Port and I'll believe we're getting ourselves sorted again.

Agree with a lot of that post, but I do doubt at this stage, that Sylvia is putting any pressure on anyone. Even at Peel.

Sylvia didn't come over here to play for Peel.
He's played 157 games of AFL, and kicked 129 goals, Dare say that's a few more than the combined posters on here.
He hasn't bailed yet, so I'm backing him in.
Even if he hasn't set the big footy audience alight, he is putting pressure on De Boer, Lachie Neal, Suban.

Our forward is struggling to convert from inside 50's but i reckon the outlook remains positive given Gumby, Kepler, Sylvia, Walters (possibly) are still to come in to the side who should all (hopefully) make an impact.

If not, we're screwed.

Pressure, by way of name and prev. reputation only - at this stage.

No need to group Neale with the underachievers in De Boer and Suban as we saw yesterday and throughout the season so far. He's doing very well.

See my original post, I've edited it.

Pokers Piv is that you?

So he's played 157 games and kicked x amount of goals. Great. What has he done this year to put pressure on anyone? He's turned up at the club out of shape. Played poorly (especially for someone with as you say 157 games and a number of goals to his name) in the pre season. He's gone to Peel and played ONE excellent game. The rest have been between mediocre and reasonable performances. He's then been extremely undisciplined in getting suspended. I'm struggling to see how he's putting pressure on any of the above mentioned, especially Lachie Neale. Just won a RGDM with 3x 3 votes. Suban and deBoer have been average, but both played well at AFL level so would have given themselves some breathing space. But I digress, what is it exactly that Sylvia has done SINCE ARRIVING AT FREMANTLE to put pressure on anyone?
