WE NEED A QUALITY CHB NOW!!!!! Inspite of Wakes going down injured we need a leader and organiser at CHB.
Forwards can win you games BUT it is the defensive unit that makes you COMPETITIVE.

The defensive unit is the foundation upon which a great team is built. It makes the team competitive which means during the H&A season you win enough games to make the finals.

In the finals the 9 times out of 10 the best defense will go on to win the GF. Yet again I had to watch our defense go

DYSFUNCTIONAL. The bloody Brians back six was a tight organised cohesive unit FOR FOUR QUARTERS. THEY ARE THE FOUNDATION AND HALLMARK OF THAT TEAM.

No more talk about the poncy forwards we need to focus on a CHB who is a general. Looking at the list there is only two players with that potential.

Buckley or Rocca. (chris grant kept the bulldogs competitive last week, remember). Stuff the mid-field. Buck’s could be the Jakovich, Dean, Sexton, Mackay, Grant whoever….name a quality CHB, bucks could be it. Without a quality CHB we are NOT GOING TO HAVE THE kind of foundation which will make us competitive for four quarters.

It’s about time the show pony, two nice runs per game, two quarter wonders had the blow torch applied to them down back. Great run breaking the lines Johhno but where’s your ****ing opponent? Heh……..

Letting of steam to try to salve the emabarrassment and hurt……… (I still love them all)………I've contacted the club and offered my services to coach the backs. Who want's to coach the forwards?

I can coach o"bree to kick from inside 50. He needs a haircut first though.
I agree about a CHB but I think that we can't use bucks or rocca. When Cloke was confident the looked like he might do a good job but he's been destroyed confidence wise. Whoever thay anoint they must give them a chance to perform, not 15 minutes at CHB, 5 at CHF, 13 on the bench and 14 selling pizza in the stand. It's no wonder cloke can't get a kick, he doesn't know what the hell position he's playing.

Wakelin was off, Presti was getting smashed, and yet MM had Cloke on the bench!!!!

If he's got no faith in Cloke then he shouldn't be selected. Its a waste of time picking him if you are too scared to put him out onto the ground.

Our back line wasnt the problem at all, having Wakes go down obviously didn't help, but not many people could have stoped lynch yesterday witth the type of delivery he was getting. Clemenceu had a good game, as did Johnson running from the back flank. Having Cloke go forward at some stages didn't help either, thats one thing about Mick he persist with the same old frikking ideas that have not worked in the bloody past...

There is the problem - MM has lost faith in Jason's ability yet there is no back-up. Walker?? I think not. Kinnear?? Umm....nup.

So who is left? Brent Hall (who is being groomed for CHB with specialist help from Silvagni) who has missed 2 months with glandular fever and is only just 18?? Not this year, and maybe not even until mid 2005.

Do we pull a rabbit out of the hat and throw a Billy Morrison back there? Or a Josh Fraser? Maybe a Cam Cloke? The answer has to be NO.
Jason has to be played all day. We are all quick to bag the kid, but he has performed many times before, at a young age.

When Cloke gets his confidence back, he will do the job. When he gets ground time, he will get his confidence back. When Malthouse uses him, he will get ground time.

I know this is a weird idea but McKee has performed well at CHB in the past. Don't know if he could handle a Tredrea type but he certainly isn't useless in that role.

This used to be a problem for Johnson a few years ago. He would make the searching run from the backline and then turn over the ball with a poor disposal and find himself stranded upfield with his opponent on his lonesome in front of goal and the ball being quickly rebounded.

Not any more. Johnson is now highly skilled with his disposal - he does the Lions kickins more often than not - and he now really hurts oppositions with those explosive runs. Rarely does he turn the ball over these days when he makes those trademark dashes. A show pony he is not. He's a "money man".

amortiser

edit: It would appear ranter was talking about the 'pies Johnno and bagging his own player.

Have a bit of patience - dont kill the flair. The Lion's Johnno has turned into a pretty handy player with all that flair and a bit of experience.

we need a general at CHB.

Everybody appear to have missed my point.

We need a general at CHB like Roo's use to be.
Clokey, Wakes, Presti, Clemmo etc, none of them have shown that commander quality.

The commander who rules and runs the backmen.

Wakes may develop into that role but he isn't there yet.

In 1997 bucks was placed on Carey when he was still at the height of his career.
Not only did bucks stop carey who commanded from the CHB position.
And creatively set up attacks from the half back line.

Wakes played a brilliant game against the bulldogs leading by example but he does not command those around him....
like I said, like roos use to do.

Sydney made the gf in 1996 purely because Roos was such a brilliant general down back.

We need a general, and as much as I am loathe to say it Wakes is a great backman but not a general.

We need a commander who will erect that wall across CHB.

i actually agree with the prospect of using buckley down back (but not rocca).

how long is he gonna be dominant in the midfield for? and its about time we slowly start to phase out our reliance on him. Look what happened to carlton when craig bradley retired? They had no one. At the moment we're lacking key position players. and lets face it, buckley can take on anyone one on one
