Opinion We need to move back to the MCG

Should the Bombers play the majority of home games at the MCG (let's say a minimum of 7)?

carn man, read the room...

I still think it has something to do with everything (playing at Marvel)
Read the room ?

Did not stop the Dogs from winning a GF.

The simple fact is the majority of home sides have been poorly run or under resourced. Has zero to do with playing at Marvel. There are simply too many other factors.

they play enough home games at there own individual stadiums to finish top 4.
Brisbane lost 5 games in Queensland during the H&A season, 4 at the Gabba.

Their only loss interstate was a 5 point loss to Adelaide when they kicked 0.8 to 5.0 in the last.

Tell me more about how they finish top 4 due to their home ground.

Saints shouldve won a GF too, not marvels fault

MCG = open roof = us in the rain = kaka
Don't disagree but is that a chicken/egg debate? I don't recall we were such a bad wet weather side in the nineties. Then again we were so much better overall then that's it hard to say.
Whatever, this thread seems based on the dubious premise that moving back to the MCG is even an option that's open to us. If we asked for this it would be fiercely resisted by all the existing clubs based there. If the AFL's recent treatment of our club is any guide, it's not as if we have any 'friends at Court' at Jolimont who would push our case . Even if we appeal to the AFL's well recognised sense of avarice, it would be Carlton who could mount a stronger argument for a shift to the G given that in the past 3-4 years they have consistently drawn bigger crowds than we have( Anzac Day aside). They can at least point to recent participation and wins in Finals at the MCG- we haven't even played a Final there since 2014.

If both we AND the Blues were granted a bigger share of games at the MCG to the point we could say it was our new 'home ground' , it's not likely we would end up playing many more than the 8 games allocated to us in the recently released 2026 fixture ,as with say ,6 teams based there, each would inevitably play fewer games there than currently enjoyed by the existing tenants.
We made our decision in 1999 and we are going to have to live with it at least until the touted redevelopment of the Docklands stadium. What shape that might take and what options it might open to us up is crystal ball stuff . In the meantime there are plenty of more significant things within our control for the club to be focusing on.
