Rehn for the Power - it is only a matter of time.

Not convinced about Rehn.

So as a tiger supporter, how much do you think we are going to whip you by?

:)

If I were you, I'd give us a couple of days to let us settle down before asking.

If you've read this thread, you would realise by now that some of us on this board are ready to attack anyone, even our own.

I'm not saying that you're not welcome, just tread carefully for a little while.

West played in an elimination final under Borchard and didn't kick a goal in the first half. There were significant problems between the players and the club.

There was a clear out, leaving a squad which really hadn't played together before and Rehnie bonded them together and used a simple game plan which essentially used all the strengths of the team.

This year has been a downer, however the team is a hell of a lot less talented than the grand final team. Marsh for all his failings in the AFL is a topline SANFL player. Tuck was close to a B&F, Cooney although in and out of the team was a class above most days. Sam Fisher was a utility that finally found his feet. Bradshaw left but nealy kicked 100.

Rehn would get Port to play for him, in his style. He definately has a way with people, a way of getting everyone pushing in the same direction. A very simple direction.

Harvey, no. Too much time at one club. O'Donnell definately.

Rehn is the chosen one.

Id say Rehn is already biding his time for the announcement he will b e coaching Adelaide next season

I have to think that Rehn has pretty similar credentials to a pre-Essendon Choco. Got an SANFL club to a fairly good position, but didn't finish it off. Show me the premierships!

I struggle to see Rehn at the Crows. At an upper management level I think he has significant differences with the people.

Porthos fair enough, but two points. Rehn and Choco seem to be two very different people. The Williams name is so entwined with Port Adelaide that sometimes I think Choco is so defensive is that he doesn't want to let the name and the club down. Rehn would be a breath of fresh air. He did the same at Westies, although having his start at Westies he admits to only ever seeing the culture from afar.

The second point is if you are looking for premierships then we are looking at Clarkson (heavily discussed) Jonas (Crowie links) Laird (Centrals at heart) and Phillips (coaching Sturt, played at North).

Rehn is my choice but I can see O'Donnell as a very attractive alternative, with Eade back in third.

I don't have a strong position on who our next coach should be, except to say that must either have coached an AFL premiership already OR played in multiple ones (ie. been a part of a team successful enough to have some grasp of how to win the flag).
And have been at least an assistant coach at AFL level. This will at least ensure we get a coach that knows what sort of environment is required for success and knows what an AFL coaching job entails. Who best fits these criteria I don't know, but increasingly Choco is looking less and less the man to take us what should be a short, yet is getting to be huge, step further from the minor premiership to the flag.

While I am not averse to all this mudslinging in times of crisis. And believe me, that excuse for an effort on Sunday was a true crisis, I do not think we will progress by just targetting the coach.

IMO, certain players have had a long time with our club without ever displaying the true elements that all Port (Magpie and Power) supporters hold dear: honesty, courage, desperation, pride, commitment.

There are a significant group of players who are softer than any I can remember in my time watching the Maggies. In contrast when I watch Brisbane which is as often as I can, I never find myself questioning players' courage or pride.

In seven years, how often have question marks been thrown over certain players, who don't need naming. It is as much their time as the coaching group's, to feel the heat and wrath of supporters and be made more accountable. Otherwise they should be tossed out too.

Any new coach we get, must be able to ignore the usual approach of looking at players' potential and their best performances. Instead they must look for consistency of effort in all matches, especially when we lose. They must be able to identify which players should be moved on.

Sure, but its already pretty clear that Choco will hang onto them for too long. A new coach typically brings with them a clearout.

I agree PJ but part of the problem has been the close link between these players and coach. It has almost come to stage where I don't believe that Choco will drop a Dew or Schofield.

Even if he does drop these two, they go back to Centrals where they would get the ball on a platter.

Yesterday's effort was disappointing to say the least. Simply put, we are no longer contenders for the 2004 premiership.
IMO it is important to blood our younger players for the remaining portion of the year. Give them the experience that will allow them to enter next season with confidence that they can perform at the highest level.
We need to develop our existing list, get rid of the old, slow players such as Wakelin and Hardwick, as well as those who have under performed in the past few seasons.
We definitely need a new coach, perhaps Parkin or O'Donnell. Chocco has tried, but has been unsuccessful. The game plan doesn't stand up to 22 minor round matches plus the finals.
It is definitely time that Port Adelaide heads in a new direction. I for one will stand by my club, but in saying this I will not tolerate it if changes are not made next season. It is time to look toward the future.

That's all I'm saying, bring in a new coach who is prepared to trade Dew, Schofield, Lade and to make S. Burgoyne into a tougher player.

I could definitely see one or two sides in Melbourne licking their lips at having a "sharp-shooter" in Dew and may be prepared to give up a more honest young player or a top10 draft pick.

We need honest players who can fill gaps when the going is tough by playing midfield and downback. Not players who by laziness have let themselves lose any hint of versatility.

I wouldn't trade Dew. Schofield wouldn't get a trade, Lade might but we'd need a decent ruckman to replace him.

We should cash in on some our pretenders (draft picks) while they still have a bit of repute within the league. As far as replacing someone like Lade, we could always reneg the Brooks/Salopek deal ;), but I'm looking towards Cameron Wood, Dubiniecki (was he taken last draft?) and possibly Oscar Forman.

I would. I've had it with Dew. He makes 'Extra Soft' butter look hard.
He's not going to become a hard player overnight, but with a new coach I suspect he could become an extremely damaging player overnight. Its been apparent for some time that Choco's method is not the way in which Dew plays his best football...it took being dropped a few times a couple of years ago to get Dew playing like he is right now.

I'm with Porthos. It will do more harm than good to trade Dew.

As far as trading Lade, we would need another couple of young rucks on the list to be able too. Brooks is going along very slowly at St Kilda (as per Guerra) thread. Perhaps Wood might still be around at the 8-12 spot, if that's where we end up. It is about time we picked a Westies lad ;)

Dew could get us a top 20 draft pick but id prefer to hang onto him in the hope that he again comes good. He needs a kick up the arse as he doesnt seem to be enjoying himself at the moment.

Schofield we wouldnt get a trade for. Hes too old. He hasnt been playing that badly but i agree that his leadership skills are incredibly lacking.

Lade...if we trade Lade then we are left with Primus (who may never play again anyway), Brogan which is fine, and Ackland. Ackland becoming our second ruckmen without any sort of form whatsoever to back it up doesnt sound good to me.

We will need to trade for another ruckmen or draft one early (which i think we should do anyway).

Hang on. It's not just about being harder. It is about being lighter, fitter, faster. Being able to take a one-on-one mark. That effort against Harvey in the BP yesterday was pretty lame, considering hte size disparity.

Stuey has had seven years to show us that he can get his body right to be a versatile player. I reckon if he had the speed and stamina to play in the midfield then he would have had more time there. Early in his career, even Williams tried to play him on a wing.

How can he play anywhere near the midfield when he just doesn't get to contests to get the footy?

No, I have had enough of him. Pickett is the only opportuist goal-kicker we need. I would rather HFFs who can easily play in the midfield and also know where the goals are. In time, and it will take 1-2 years Salopek, Surjan and Ebert could all be that type of player.

Get some new blood in the coach's box and playing side.

I fear no-one will take Schofield now that he is 29.

Someone will put there hand up for Lade, but that leaves only Brogan and Primus as ruck options that most of us would consider viable.

Clint Dubi?

Hes on the Crows rookie list and anyway...no thanx. Nowhere near AFL standard.

There'll be another #17 ;)

I'm with the others though. I don't think Dew should be traded. He does need some motivation (carrot or stick?).
