I have heard some reports from a few friends who were there this morning, but nothing compares to what "The Collingwood Turtle" prepares.
Thanks to him for this report off Nicks;
Josh on a bike, would have been worth seeing itself.
Good news on Rocca, and good to see they have identified a few problems with out goal kicking, and have taken steps to improve it.
Thanks to him for this report off Nicks;
A chilly Melbourne morning with fog lifting greeted the Collingwood players on the greasy Goschs Paddock today.
Leigh Brown conducted a press conference for his 200th game with a huge media presence.
The Anvil spoke about the faith Michael Malthouse and the rest of club had put into him this year and was very grateful of the opportunity to be a part of the Collingwood FC entering into this finals campaign.
Notable absences at the start of training were Sean Rusling, Scott Pendlebury, Shane O’Bree, Josh Fraser & Dane Swan.
From my understanding Pendles, Cheesy & Swanny were rested for the outdoor session.
When the entire list hit the track, a running and short kicking session was carried out with the players split into various groups with padded bags being used to simulate pressure on the ball carrier.
The kicking distances were then extended as the session progressed.
The players were very vocal and jovial especially Heath Shaw.
Then the players were divided into various groups.
One group was designated into the centre square with quadrant ball movement by foot, switching play at the whim of Blake Caracella who was in charge of this drill.
Then another two groups were split into different pressurised handballing drills with coaches Brad Scott and Mark Neeld in control. There was plenty of banter and voice during these sessions.
At one end of the ground Michael Malthouse and conditioning coach David Buttifant put Paul Medhurst, Leon Davis and Anthony Rocca through a very searching session of 100 metre shuttle runs combined with Malthouse and Buttifant kicking the ball to the players and getting them to lead up to their passes and then double back to goal and receive another pass.
All three looked spent at the end of their taxing 15 metre continual shuttle run session.
Nathan Brown and Simon Prestigiacomo then branched off to conduct their own 150 metre run thru’s.
A very short ¾ of the ground match simulation was then conducted for about 10 mins with quick ball movement.
Then a sight to hearten Magpie fans was Josh Fraser arriving at Goschs Paddock on his bike.
Josh completed a lap with runner Justin Crow then headed over the adjacent oval for some 100 metre shuttle runs with Crowy.
Fraser mixed these up with some figure eight runs to test his knee. After running for about 10 mins Josh then had kick to kick to Crowy over a distance of 30 metres and looked in fine fettle and not limping at all.
Most of the players left the track but the likes of Brad Dick, Travis Cloke, Tarkyn Lockyer, Martin Clarke, Kevin Dyas, Alan Toovey and Dale Thomas remained for some extra goal kicking practice under the guidance of Paul Hudson who had an assistant filming the players technique as they practiced their set shots at goal.
Kevin Dyas' kicking for goal was somewhat exceptional even kicking a few freak goals from the boundary.
Overall it was a fairly light but impressive session by the lads.
