Recruited by the eagles in 1991. plays 2 games before he was delisted. Spent most of the yearin the WAFL in 1991. got a 2nd WAFL premiership medal.

Goes to the Saints in 1992. Plays 21 games.

Goes on Essendons list in 1993-4. Stayed in the WAFL in 1993, gets another premiership at Claremont. Played 8 games for essendon in 1994. left the club.

Goes on Fremantles list from 1995-2002. Played 134 games.

Crazy to think he spent at least 1 season in 4 different clubs and played games with all 4 of them until Freo recruited him.

Didn’t he also kill 3 Eagles players and seriously wound four others in a Derby?

Sam Naismith played 30 games in 9 years for the swans before being delisted after 3 ACLs, then spent a season in the VFL for Port Melbourne and now looks like coming to Richmond as a 31-year-old backup ruck to Toby Nankervis (who we pinched from Swans in 2017 as he was stuck behind....Sam Naismith).
Six of those 30 are finals. 20% of your games tally as finals, imagine that.

Will Snelling has had a rollercoaster.

A national standout at U18 level in 2015. Overlooked in the draft due mainly to his 175cm stature.

Finally taken in the rookie draft by Port Adelaide. Plays one game in three seasons, get delisted.

Nominates for the drafts again in 2018 and is overlooked. Goes to the SANFL (West Adelaide I think) and has a big start to the year.

Essendon takes him in the 2019 mid-season draft, he plays four games late in the year including a final.

Establishes himself as a senior player in 2020 and finishes top 10 in the B&F.

Goes to another level in 2021 and finished third in the B&F.

Injury ruined 2022 with only 8 games.

Bounces back to an extent in 2023 with 15 games.

Delisted.

Amazing after all that he ended up playing so many AFL games.

well it wasnt like he was Mark Jacko Jackson, some one that constantly did crazy things on and off the field, get kicked out of one club and get to another clubs. Dale Kickett could play but couldnt settle living in Victoria.

The one time he went to a WA club the 1st time, He could barely Break into that west coast squad. Mind you this was 1991. Eagles finished top in that 1991 season with 19 wins and 3 losses. Eagles were in their 5th year and had some decent 22-25 year olds with 60-80 games under the belt too. You are not dropping 5-7 players each game if you are winning.

When he was in the Dockers Original squad in 1995, He was coached under Gerrard Neesham, who was familiar with in Claremont of the WAFL. Kickett he had experience playing with at least 1 AFL club like his former Claremont Team mate and 1st dockers 1st captain Ben Allan.

Podium B&F finish in a finals side as well in regards to 2021.

Josh Mahoney …. Similar paths to Podsiadly. had two years at Collingwood and two years at the dogs before being delisted and spent three years out of the system ( presumably back in the ammo’s with stKevins)

Last man picked in the 2003 PSD and probably only taken because Nick Stephens walked and they needed some depth…2004 premiership player after getting selected in round 6 and playing every game.

Retired three years later still only 30 and went into admin.

Needs to play in a higher level competition but there isn’t one

Isaac Smith is an interesting one.

Moved to Ballarat to go to uni and played for local side Reden in the reserves in 2009. Finished up 2009 winning the flag in the seniors. Then 2010 he started out playing for Reden and finished the year starring for North Ballarat in the VFL grand final and was drafted by Hawthorn in the 1st round a few weeks later.

Played In an AFL prelim a year later, a gf a year after that and then won 3 straight flags almost winning a norm Smith in the 3rd.

Pretty amazing rise.
then what happened?

There was once a chap from Bendigo, Southcombe?? Played a season with Carlton in the early 80s, just to prove to his mates he was good enough, then promptly retired. Could have had a successful career in the vfl, had he had the desire.
Now runs the Brisge hotel in Bendigo

Bill Barrot played for 3 clubs in his final 2 seasons.
1970 Richmond 9 games.
1971 St Kilda 2 games, Carlton 12 games.

Had a physical altercation with Barassi during half time in the final round of the season. Subbed off and career over.

Daniel Lloyd's journey just became even more extraordinary

Playing local footy in NSW at 23 as a full-time carpenter, he kicks 9 in a semi-final and is asked to trial with GWS. Gets picked up in the rookie draft, debuts at 25 and ends up playing 101 games including nine finals and a grand final. This week he joined the Brisbane Lions as a development coach, beginning his coaching career at just 31 years old. 8 years after playing local footy on the Central Coast.

Reminds me of Andrew Hooper.

Won the Larke Medal as the best u18 player, just scraped onto an AFL list as a late pick, debuted in a final, only played a handful of games after that.

Michael Cooke played only 2 games for Hawthorn. Both games were during the 1975 finals.
Second semi final: Cooke kicked 4 goals.
Grand final: Zero possessions.
Never played another senior game.

David Clarke
Prolific and mercurial and selfish midfielder Wins Geelong's B&F in '71, '78 and '79 and comes runner up four other times.
As vice captain, kicks 2 goals from 26 disposals in the 1981 2nd semi-final. Bizarrely dropped for the Prelim and told he will not be re-signed for 1982.
Moves to Carlton in 1982, plays all three finals. Dropped for the Grand Final. Retires in bitter disillusionment.
Becomes a Director with Pyramid, which ironically forms a kind of pyramid scheme which goes on to destroy the Geelong economy. The news breaks just after Geelong lose a 1990 game to Carlton. Pleads guilty. The QC who handled the inquiry describes him as "arrogant and greedy".

And thus, an arrogant and greedy midfielder is sacked by Geelong, returns as an arrogant and greedy banker to (via Carlton) sack Geelong.
His son also played for Geelong and Carlton

Didn't Sheedy rip in to him (or possibly belt him) for responding to a kid's autograph request by writing "Get f***ed, from Bill Barrot"?

Being told to get f***ed by Allan Border was a rite of passage for young autograph hunters in the 1980s.

Thought of this thread when reading of one.

Collingwood’s Charlie Ahern.

Joined Collingwood in 1929 at age 23 from Northcote in the VFA.

This was the “The Machine”, the all-conquering Collingwood side that went through the H&A season undefeated.

Unsurprisingly as a recruit in such a strong squad, Ahern managed just two games during the H&A season.

In one of the greatest upsets in footy history, Richmond defeated Collingwood in the second semi. Actually they smashed them, to the tune of 62 points.

Rumours would later abound of Collingwood playing dead in the match due to bribes, or simply threats, delivered by underworld bookmakers.

Collingwood won the prelim to set up a rematch with Richmond in the Grand Final.

This time the threats were confirmed. Written death threats for 11 senior Collingwood players were intercepted by the club during the week, warning them not to win the Grand Final. Club officials decided to keep them secret until after the game and did not pass them on to the players.

Anyway, back to Ahern. He was a shock inclusion for the Grand Final, for just his third game of the season and his VFL career, having not played since Round 12.

He became a premiership player in his third game, though unfortunately broke his arm in a collision in the match.

Ahern was selected to play the role of “protector” for Collingwood star Syd Coventry, who had been physically targeted by Richmond in the semi final. Ahern’s size (he was a 5”11 rover, exceptionally big for the position at the time) was thought to be just what Coventry and Collingwood needed. He inspired his teammates by attacking Richmond players fearlessly at every contest, and played out much of the game with his broken arm.

His recovery from the injury was complicated by numerous infections to the arm and his condition steadily worsened over the subsequent months.

One year later he would succumb to his illnesses. The three-game premiership player was dead at 25 yo.
