I thought the point of getting Jackson was that he was a true utility?

Plays forward, can pinch in the ruck, can smash through the midfield on occasion ect? Just needs to get the marking sorted out and then will be a weapon around the ground (and a helpful bail out for all our long kicks to contests)

Such an almost player at this stage. Needs to hold marks to be a true A grader. He definitely has the potential.
I think Jackson is still a couple of years away from hitting his straps, he’s not as natural a footballer as some think on here. But the potential is ridiculous when you see some of the moments he’s had so far.

You got me. I've been posting here for 14 years (as of today ironically) just to wind you up.

I thought this club had seriously turned a corner when we hired Ross. In 2019 I thought we were just around the corner from another finals assault like most of you do now. Since then the list seems to get younger each year with more 'potential'.

I don't post with any other accounts. Just because you disagree with me and so do all your mates doesn't mean I'm wrong, there has been a mass exodus of posters from this forum over the last 10 years. You won't find a single post of mine that criticizes a player for a skill error.

And also just to whet your appetite further, I'm friends with members of the grand final team and most of my views are based on things I've been told in person by them that aren't public knowledge.

I partied with Shauny Mac the night before the grand final, I've met JLO and Alcock. I'm not just basing things off what I read on the internet.
Hah that probably means we’ve crossed paths more than once.

If that is true and was the club's thinking, it makes it a ridiculous trade. No club in their right mind trades two first round and a second round pick for a player that is (by those calculations) four years off 'hitting their straps'. You'd simply draft three first and second round players with those picks instead and give them the same time or less to hit their straps, that would be much better medium term list building.
Nah, I don't buy it. We paid that price to have the guy thriving now.
I do agree that we have is an impact player, he's one of those players that will have ridiculously good games one week and be cold the next. But we expect more of those red hot games

So you’re saying trading him in as a 20 year old we were expecting that’s as good as it was going to get with him on his exposed form?
If that’s the case we definitely shouldn’t have paid what we did. Like bringing in any young player, whether that’s through trade or draft it’s all on potential.

Of course he’s going to be a better player as a 25 yo than he was when he was 20-21.

The answer is in the middle.

The club was happy with what Jackson was already producing: we were getting a top 10 player.

The club also saw that he had a fair bit of upside to come.
Agree with this.

If he turns into the second coming of Adam Goodes in his prime we'll all be saying how we paid peanuts in that trade.

Geez if Voss can get his kicking right it could unlock so much
You don't even need 3 talls if Voss is deemed not good enough. No reason you can't play an extra small in today's game

He out worked his eagle opponent which bodes well for his match up this week. English is an around the ground impact ruck.
Jackson ran Williams into the ground. English will be a tougher prospect but there isn't any reason why he can't give English a taste of what a true Unicorn can do

I'm a bit surprised how fit Jackson is given the slow start to preseason he had.

At this stage it looks like the club was right about him putting on a couple of kg.

Who are the 5 smalls we play?

Reid, Dudley, Switta, Bolton ?

I would prefer Jackson to play forward over Frederick or Walters.

Especially as Bolton and Reid tend to run through the middle, I just don't think we have the depth of players in the forward line to play Jackson in the middle.

Voss actually had the most pressure acts in the team on the weekend.

Amazing as a tall forward.

If he starts kicking goals, we won’t need to go small. And when he hits, the opposition (and team mates) definitely feel it.

Guaranteed the club are working hard with him on goal kicking, he can do the hardest part and get good shots on.

That’s the pressure he put on the rest of the team by missing all those shots
