Any word on his pace off the mark? Dewyyyyy doesn't think it's a problem, but he looks a touch slow in clips.
Initial step in to the contest is fine. Prefers to handball if under pressure but loves taking off if he has any space . His isn't treacle slow at all , enough speed there for a inside/outside mid. The reason he can look like slowing down when running away from someone is more to do with him lifting his head and making a good decision before releasing it. These things can be worked on. This is why some draft watchers think he may start as a wingman as he is exactly what you would want for ball movement in the modern game. Let's hope it all works for him at AFL level as my mate was really hot on him. One more thing , he WILL get a fair bit of the pill, make no mistake.

This is what excites me about Dalton - during the draft combine he won the 2km time trial, as mentioned, but he was also top 10 in running vertical jump and in previous testing he equalled the Yo Yo test record.

It's a combination of qualities that indicates an elite endurance player with a level of explosiveness and lower body power that players with his endurance don't typically have. The 20m sprint top 10 tables are consistently full of players who might be quick but don't have the talent to use it, or have a poor aerobic capacity and can't repeat it under fatigue. The combination of his vertical and his yo yo test results say much more than any absolute speed numbers.

He clearly has explosiveness, he also has an elite ability to clear away metabolic fatigue, so even if he starts out a bit slower than his peers (not much) by the end of quarters / games he will be able to use that speed better than other players who don't have the same oxidative capacity - tl;dr he won't look as much like he's running in quicksand as others do by the end of the game.

No, even those hitting the target were up and under and showing too much to defenders when he should have been kicking low hit up passes.

Other than the few of the goals. The highlights i've seen show very few good kicks and a heap of poor ones. Come comments on pre-draft videos call him out for this.

He could improve this, but it's a clear weakness. I'm not sure why we felt we needed to trade up for him but must do the other stuff really really well.
Maybe because the club knows WAY MORE than you do sport!

I reckon Sam is going to love this kid. Teaching him all his tricks he knows
Sam had his issues kicking the ball when he first came in still couldn't kick it past 45m at the end of his career. I really like this kid. A shit load to work with

I think he could spend some time playing a similar role to Moore on the HFF.

He doesn't need to be lightning quick if he's always on the move and out-working opponents.

I’ve never found the lack of distance an issue just when players think they can kick farther than they actually can. Which means if he keeps his range to 20-40m and their accurate that’s worth far more then reaching for a 45m

Yeah of course but if he is as diligent with his kicking as he is with everything else. I think he can improve it. He can build on it during his career.

I just love the guy's determination.

Anyone who can survive being 17 and not having the use of his wrists for a couple of months clearly has superior willpower.

I think we should delist Dalton today. We've made a big mistake ;)
I checked the whole list of AFL players selected and the only one missed out which was from central that went to another team was Sharpe, swap sharpe and dalton and we are done, we would have taken whole central team. I can understand why people are cross with bombers for taking our man. Do not delist, just swap, it was a mistake. Sorry, could not help myself.

Work on his kicking and woweee.

How the **** do you break both arms/wrists, he must of been training hard

He was doing front squats with bands/bar/weights-on at Xavs gym, lost control of the bar from what I've heard.

He is very professional in his approach, he comes into the AFL system with the mindset of a tenured 28 year old.

Rated very highly last year, obv has played/trained with the recent Sandy prospects like the Ashcroft brothers. The under 16s record is worth checking out.

Was honestly better at the school/Coates level than fellow Xav in FOS (who also had his injury issues), different roles/pathways for both in the AFL. Not to say he is a better prospect than FOS.

I think a good pick by the Hawks.
