There's been a few comments about him having a good footy brain - bodes very well if true considering his size & athleticism.

I think he did what was asked of him on Friday night, so far so good!

I wasn't on big footy back in 07, and trust me I want Lamb to be the best thing ever, but how did the board react after Brown's debut against the Swans? I'm all for optimism and excitement, although I'd probably consider myself a realist, but how about we judge players after a little more than 3 scratch matches of exposed form. Yes Lamb looks good, but he's played an Indig all stars team, a woeful Carlton and a PA side with an undermanned defence. I think I'll reserve my judgement until mid next season at least and then I'll pronounce him as the second coming he will be

4 with his first 4 kicks. Instant fav player (at least for a week). As a youngster, I was down the local park emulating this new legend we'd unearthed.

Has any heard anything about Laverde? Was highly rated before the draft.

Half the people that wanted Blakely would be crying after his quarter last week and even the patient ones would be complaining in 3 years time when we have too many "slower" inside mids.

If Blakely was so flavoursome Freo would have taken him instead of Weller. The fact that he slipped through to their second pick means there were 30+ players rated higher than him by other clubs.

I'm talking more in terms of our needs, we identified before the draft we needed more mids and Laverde doesn't fill that need. Getting Duggan ticked that box, so we could afford to go more speculative with our next pick and we went for Lamb.

Probably. I never wanted Blakely to be honest. We'd just got Waterman to go along with Sheed, still had no outside run and hadn't drafted to fix our lack of X factor and line breaking around the ball.

Lamb provides something different to everything else on our list. Just like Yeo did when he joined the team last year. 193cm wild forward that can be anything. Definitely a punt worth taking IMO. The first concern people raised was his softness, and he's got a tick for that so far going by his 2 nab games. Early days though.

I too was never super keen on Blakely (maybe for our third rounder but we took Nelson and so far he looks like an inspired pick), he was never really going to address our needs. Yes we needed mids, but another inside mid was definitely not what we needed when we had Waterman with our last selection. Have to agree with you that Lamb was speculative and he looks like just what we need. I read something the other day that said Richmond's problem was that their 2nd & 3rd round selections had failed, I think our problem is that our 2nd rounders were too safe and really hadn't lifted the overall rating of the team. Karpany was a small step away from safe and now Lamb is a real shift in strategy, I just hope this continues until we are a contender and hopefully past that too.

I agree. Blakely was surplus since we have Sheed and Waterman. Plus, I like the Duggan and Lamb combination (as well as Nelson).

Duggan may be seen as the safe bet, but he brings elite dual-sided kicking and decision making. If he can develop this at AFL level, he can become the 'general' in the middle that adds poise to our midfield group. Not a sexy x-factor like Lamb, but great decision makers with great skills make the rest of the team look better.

Lamb could be anything, so hopefully he knuckles down and does what is needed to make the most of his natural abilities.

After picking Duggan , I would be dissapointed if they had of picked Blakely , lamb was the perfect pick after duggan, I have never been that impressed with Duggan but the way he get's talked up by everyone, there must be something special there, I have always admired lambs determination on field all though he can drop his head a bit when it doesn't go his way, but I take that as been critical on his own performance which is a good thing, and nelson has really impressed me he's hard at it and composure is great, blah blah blah wouldn't change any of our 2014 draft picks at this stage and it's been years since I have thought that !

I see it the opposite with Lamb having a far higher ceiling, 193cm 15 beepers with footy nouse and aggression aren't that common. I love the fact he's a hard trainer as well, these are the guys that lift the standard at training like Cuz used to do.

being an up and comer you probably wouldn't be overly enthused being compared to brown.

Credit to the recruiters they went X factor ( for once and not the local safe pick ) and also went point of difference and it looks at this early stage that we have a player on our hands. Once Lamb bulks up he is going to very hard to match up on, together with Jack they are going be a headache playing in tandem for opposition backlines.

I would not have been disappointed with Blakely with our second but thought a first rounder was way overs.

Early days with the Lamb over Blakey argument but i think we drafted in a more well rounded way in the sense we drafted a player with excellent skills as a mid (Duggan) , an inside mid to compliment Sheed ( Waterman) , a HBF/Mid (Nelson), a pacey mid/FWD (Cavka) and then we drafted Lamb as a 3rd tall with pace and endurance and capable of maybe being a Mid. Not saying all those players will work out but we did go along way to fixing our midfield problems.
