Bidding is fun.

Until others start bidding on your own kids.

It's a two edged sword.

Can we get to 10:22 or 24hrs before the first live pick, or the real pick1?🤣🤣🤣

I am sure, Continental Tyres would be very appreciative of the long draw out saga.

TerryFilk you need 1960 points to match

You have picks 24,25,32,46 totalling 1750 points which is 210 short which can be a deficit carried into next year pending any pick swaps for additional points you can negotiate

Need to get some momentum into this mock

Going to assume TerryFilk matches and takes the deficit into 2026.

At this point Gold Coast have no further picks in this draft to match bids for the likes of Addinsall if/when they come. Happy to allow the swap of 2026 picks for current picks to match a potential bid if you want to start discussing trades with other posters

So, per the above, Gold Coast match the Zeke Uwland bid and lose picks 24,25,32 and 46 in the process

With that settled, ArdentEagle has messaged me to say he will make the following selections for West Coast

Pick 4 - Willem Duursma
Pick 5 - Cooper Duff-Tytler

Elite Pete you are now on the clock with Richmond’s pick(s)

West Coast aren’t likely to do it but the benefit of ArdentEagle going ham with early bids not only pushes Brisbane and Gold Coast to pay full sticker price but the eagles later picks (34,41,53,58) are currently sitting at 29,35,44,49.

And it’s not like there’s any real risk the bids won’t be matched and even if one isn’t we get a player worthy of the pick - any of Annable, Uwland or Patterson would be just dandy in the wings

So those 4 picks started the draft worth 608 points and are now worth 1,070 points.

This is the stage we start talking to Carlton since they will be the team next needing points. Can we move up from what was 13 to what was 9? We could discuss future picks to hide what was 9 and 11 then return them 13. That would mean the get Dean plus 13. Include Norf with their R2 picks and if I was at my desk, I’m sure I could hatch a cunning plan. No need to work it but by ArdentEagle going bid crazy, it has shown what a competitive draft should look like and we gain significantly.

Essendon need for plenty and at this range, I see great options and very even for the next 6 players. So I can start to use the draft here to do some list management with such an even crop. I want a mid and a tall.

As tempted as I am with bidding on Harry Dean, I would prefer Schubert to be the forward partner for Caddy. Also I think Gerreyn will be better in defence that up front.

Then I want a mid and Cumming is that classy balanced mid that I rate the most. I was tempted with Sharpe and Grlj.

Pick 8 - Aidan Schubert KPF 198cm, Central Districts

After coming into the year as a prospect with plenty of potential but just as much room for improvement, Aidan Schubert well and truly delivered on the promise he has always shown in 2025. Also a state representative in basketball at Under 16 and 18 levels, the 198cm talent put all his eggs into the footballing basket heading into his top-age campaign, and that decision has paid off to the maximum.

Schubert played in Central District’s Under 16 flag in 2023 and was part of the Under 18 team which made last year’s Grand Final. This year, seeking a new challenge, he needed just one audition in the Reserves before being selected in the Bulldogs’ League side for their elimination final. Despite his side going down, Schubert acquitted himself nicely with four marks (two contested) and a goal.

His goalkicking feats have been remarkable this year. After being held to two behinds in Round 1 of the Under 18 season, he went on to slot 28 majors in his remaining 12 appearances. He hit the scoreboard in each of those games, booting multiples on eight occasions with three bags of four. It was no surprise, then, to see him take out the SANFL Under 18 MVP award after his outstanding season.

Further to that, Schubert stepped up to perform on the representative stage. He made a splash with four goals in South Australia’s first match against the Allies, going on to finish with 10 in four games as the All-Australian full forward. With pure performance and a strong rate of improvement throughout the year, he firms as the best key forward in the draft crop.

Pick 9 - Sam Cumming balanced midfield who can also play forward 183cm, North Adelaide

Sam Cumming will be among the most highly sought after prospects at this year’s draft after an impressive couple of seasons with North Adelaide. The midfielder took out last year’s SANFL Under 18 MVP award as a bottom-ager, making 10 appearances for an average of 27 disposals. He also turned out twice for South Australia at the Under 18 National Championships, and was selected to play in the National Futures game.

With such exploits under his belt, Cumming was inducted into the 2025 AFL Academy and impressed during a preseason training stint at Port Adelaide. He came into season proper with huge wraps on his potential, and delivered to become an All-Australian by the end of SA’s title-winning nationals run. The best was yet to come, though, as Cumming stepped up into North Adelaide’s League side and made an immediate impact.

Amid arguably his best patch of form for the year, he starred with 21 disposals and three goals in Round 13 against South Adelaide. Unfortunately, his season ended in a fourth and final senior game after injuring his shoulder three weeks later against Central District. Still, Cumming was fit enough to participate at the National Draft Combine where he showcased his explosive speed with a sub three-second 20m sprint time.

Cumming is quite well travelled already having played his junior football in Wentworth, a town over the New South Wales border in the Sunraysia region. He also represented Bendigo Pioneers in the 2022 V-Line Cup, but ended up attending school at the prestigious Prince Alfred College in Adelaide and thus linked up with North. He’s a Hawthorn supporter and models his game on the likes of Sydney star Isaac Heeney.

Carlton don't have a 2026 R2 pick so maybe,
So WC picks 29,35 plus St Kilda 2026 2nd pick 30 is 1271 points for Carlton pick 13 (9) 1080 points

Then our pick 17 (13) 1080 for Carlton's Sydney R1 2026 pick 1205 or
Pick 17 and our 2026 R2 pick 21 1600 points for Carlton's 2026 R1 pick 9 1355

This is why bidding legit "should" happen this year. They're all just academy anyway so it's not like we're trying to get an Ashcroft out of Brisbane or a Daicos out of Collingwood as they'd leave the second they could.

I Don't think we'll do it all with pick one, but come pick two, we should, or trade it to someone who has the balls to do it for us.

So looking ahead now, HAS ArdentEagle been implementing a cunning plan to make the Suns devoid of points and getting them early into a deficit. Is he wanting to pick Addinsall with either what was originally 13 without the Suns able to match?

I love the theatre. I have seen Addinsall ranked from teens to low 20's which is about where the pick 13 will land. He is a balanced midfielder that is an accumulator and likes to get involved in Mini like transitional waves. If we take Duursma and CDT 1+2 then wake up realising we have neglected the midfield, it might be a decent option at 13.
