Can anyone explain why we usually play like crap against this mob of desperadoes? They are simply incapable of beating other teams, yet we inevitably hand it to them time and time again. Ha ha ha, ya gotta laugh at yourself.

Mate, you're spot on. They are a team of spuds. When that rolling list of goalkickers came on the screen, one by one it was simply a list of spuds. Westhoff - Ebert - Schulz - Banner, I mean seriously Crows? What a joke, I was just shaking my head all night. Johncock burnt by everyone he got near, Rutten giving his man 10 metres every lead, Bock just being 2010 Bock, meanwhile Davis plays for North while Porps is playing in the Showdown as the superstar defender that he is.

Pretty much, yeah. As much as it pains me to say it, though, we should really give them just a bit more respect.

I don't usually join in the frenzy after a bad loss, but that was one of the worst considering what was on the line. Finals experience for the kids on our list this year would have been a big plus no matter how deep we went into them.
Life after the veterans? We need a leader to step up because there were none out there tonight.
We need our players to understand and be able to play under pressure. Too many rabbits in the headlights efforts tonight.
Set shots at goals in front or on a slight angle must be kicked. Goals on the run without opposition pressure must be kicked. We wilted under pressure tonight and it was horrible to watch.
Port deserved their win because they played better than us and played with a spirit they usually only show against us. They've won their granny for the season,so their low expectations have been met.
Unless we grow a collective backbone at the AFC then I wouldn't have premiership expectations with this group of players.

Bock was the one mainly on westhoff when westhoff had kicked his goals.. Then rutten started moving to westhoff and bock to stewart..

How an in form player (yes davis) was dropped for a guy that has missed so much football and has shown previously this year he doesn't come back well from being out for a while, i'll never know!!!!!

Why was porps down back the whole game?

Why was chaplin left to play loose in defence and do exactly what he wanted and destroy the ball in the air everytime we kicked it into the forward line? This one just amazed me

The fact is, younger players do have some sort of inconsistency, plus other variables that may or may not be known at this stage.

I dont think our team was even as young as Port's...anyone know...or even care for that matter? The fact is, for the second time this year and for plenty other port/crows games, we simply hand over the game, usually to an inferior side, to a team that set a record with 9 losses in a row. That's what makes it so galling really. If we put in anywhere near the effort said bunch of spuds put in - then we would've won by about 10 goals.

We lost because we were soft, unaccountable, front-running squibs - and usually those are Port Power prerequisites.

A lot of calls after that North Melbourne debacle that it was our worst ever. This was much, much worse.

quite frankly I thought the worst players of the night were the older guys anyway.

I didn't think we played too badly in general play, but cost ourselves quite obviously with the set shots. 4.8 to 10.1, plus 2 OOF to us, that was the difference right there. The fact Westhoff was potting them from 55m wasn't a good omen. Thommo and Henderson were easily our best two IMO, and you could raffle it amongst the others. Fact is, if we had kicked straight in the 1st half, we would have won quite easily. Can only blame ourselves tonight, but we'll still account for Richmond next week.

I know its easy for us to say now that Bock's selection was a mistake. But seriously, Bock in, and Porps on a half back flank?..If it had worked we would be congratulating Craigy and the selection team.

This was no way near as bad as that performance, not by any stretch. Some severe over reactions by our supporters tonight. If we kick accurate early, this board would be acting completley different right now. But, we didn't, so just move on and look foward to next week.

Not with a repeat of tonight's work-rate and intensity.

We played such 'safe' football tonight, last week we took risks and played through the corridor, tonight our ball movement was slow, our skills were terrible, and no one was willing to really work. In the few times we did have loose men and chances to make them pay, our skills let us down. Awful night.

Fair call Macca, I wasn't totally putting Banner in the spud group, moreso the youngster who shouldn't be kicking two group. Porps? Has been a spud all year, find one Crows fan who would disagree, Ebert though is a spud. :thumsbu:

Port were quite good. Not brilliant but much better than in recent weeks. Their defensive pressure was top notch.

I think there are 2 issues flowing from this debacle.

1. Bock is quite possibly the most overrated player on our list. He did not play the the last third of last season..when we peaked. Had no pre season, was rotten in the last showdown..cant remember when he last played well. He was poor again tonight. How we could have dropped Davis is beyond belief. Last week we kept the best team of the last 5 years to 9 goals, achieved from a wonderful defensive unit...then we drop a player who was a key part of that, astonishing.

2. I also thought there was a lot of good play from AFC this game but guys who are copping a lot of flak were crucified by our forwards waste. Tex and our new darling Henderson were the worst offenders. There was plenty of effort and plenty of chances created but the finishing was unforgivable. Dont blame the rest of the team for the schoolyard efforts of these 2.

And if you were so much better than us, you'd have been further up the ladder in the last 2-3 years.. You guys treat the showdown as so much more of a 'must win' game than our guys seem to.. Your most effort in any games seems to always go into a showdown..
