Bringing in Kingy.

THe blokes spent a month out, and we rush him back in. What makes it worse, is we drop Blake, who is the future, and who i beleive played his bestgame for the club last week. Kingy wont run out a whole match. If we were gonna bring him in atleast keep Blake in so we can keep otto up forward for the game. The GFC = dead ****s

Totally agree rizzo. What's more, there's an extra week in it if we gave Kingy this week off, because of the split round. It would have been nice to have made sure he was right by giving him that extra time.

They'll say this is a crunch game and we needed our captain back. I say that's all very well but it all counts for naught if he does himself another injury this week. Not only that, Blake has been improving week by week and didn't deserve to be dropped.

I love the in-form Kingy, and I hope he plays like a champion this weekend, but I also reckon we have to start looking to a reliable future. I totally agree that Blake is making real improvements and I'd like to see him get the game time. Unfortunately, I think this could be Kingy's last season...

In Kingy's favour though, the Cats claim that they've given him 3 weeks for a 1 week injury, so we'll see. BUT, if he can't cut it this weekend, the writing's on the wall.

All this talk in a number of threads now saying King shouldnt play is really getting ridiculous. He is our No 1 ruckman and if he is fit he should play. As I have said several times now he has been rested 3 weeks for a 1 week injury and we also have the rest week after this. So this game is an ideal game for King to play. He can play his heart out with 2 weeks to recover if he pulls up a bit sore. I think it is actually a smart move from the coaches.

Blake did play better last week but against the bottom side afterall. He has not earned any right to stay in the side and if King and Ottens are fit then he is out. That's the way it is right now. Blake has to keep performing better every chance he gets. He has played only one OK game this year in the seniors.

I'm going to have it both ways!

I agree with bringing King back into the side, but don't agree with the omission of Blake. From reports it sounds as though GFC have taken all precautions with King, so why not have him on the park? He is part of our best 22. Looking at the team, I think they could've cut Spencer/Mackie and kept Blake in. Scarlett and Egan for McPharlin and Pavlich, with Milburn as backup if Spencer didn't play. This leaves Mooney at CHF for the whole game, and Ottens at FF if they had picked Blake and King to rotate the ruck.

Couldn't agree more, was about to write this myself.

That's the problem. With all the footy he's missed, even if his calf is right, he's not fit. In all likelihood, he won't play more than half the game. King is a great player, and even operating at about 80% would be better than Blake. But IMO his inability to spend enough time on the park will hurt us more than whatever we gain when he is out there.

I actually think if we wanted to bring King back in, we should have dropped Ottens. Not based on form, but on overall fitness. We now have two labouring, underdone ruckmen in the side, and we just can't afford to be carrying that when it's already well documented that we have problems running out games. I wouldn't be surprised at some stage during the game to see them both on the bench and Mooney in the ruck (it's already happenned when both have played this season).

I'm not concerned about him reinjuring something, it's his lack of overall fitness that's more concerning, which means he just isn't able to contribute enough to justify his place in the side when we're already struggling for fitness and can't afford to be carrying anyone. He should be coming back through the 2's to get match fitness.

No, rushed back from around a month with no footy, no pre-season, and seriously lacking the required fitness.

And if history is any guide, there's no such thing as a 1 week calf injury with Kingy. The "1 week calf injuries" he's had always seem to take longer than a week to come back from.
