Strategy What are we going to do about centre half forward?

Sorry, but who exactly? We are talking about bringing in a KEY FORWARD remember. Who else this season has done what Brown and Walker have?
Doesn't hurt to try other options. Seeing as you're the eternal pessimist of these forums though, you'll probably still label me as wrong. *sigh*

Give big Tommy a rest, and play Brown and Walker. Let them fight it out for a spot round 1 of finals?
I would only rest Hawkins if there is a medical reason to do so. Its not beyond the realm of possibility that we could drop this game

Other options are fine. Just wondering who they might be. Kersten was brought in as the 2nd forward behind Hawkins. He goes out. So it seems logical to think a similar type player will replace him. If it's not Brown or Walker, who else is there?

I agree, I don't get how this turned in to a ruck discussion. Happy enough with the HMac & Blitz combo. Rucking in the firsts would be a whole new world of pain for Walker.

Where was Blitz when Hale went forward?
Wasting time following Ceglar?

Ch 10 news said Hawkins, Motlop, McIntosh all a chance to be rested (haven't heard Scotty's presser yet to know if that was just a "maybe" response to a journo's dreamed up suggestion).

If Geelong's fate is already decided by Sat night, I think both Brown and Walker could play.

Yep, if Port can roll Freo (that's a big if obviously), that would make perfect sense.

The way he said..two injuries to keyforwards , he said Brown and Walker , and made particular reference to Walker against Belchambers. I think they are both in , and maybe a couple of other as well. If he is think , like I'm thinking , its all or nothing week1 if we want to win it.

Surely Tom Hawkins out won't be the difference between winning and losing against The Lions. They have good recent form, but Walker and Brown will be pushing hard.

I know it's robbing peter to pay Paul but Jarred Rivers played a few games up forward for the demons with success, he did kick 4 goals once in a game ( it was against a very young Giants side though) but Mitch Brown needs to step up ( even though he has NOT got a free ride and carried like a lot of young players, when it's KP players that need more time in the seniors)

I still think/hope we'll see Mackie return to his first love, on the fwd line. He is a lot wiser now, very mobile, beautiful kick, and a good mark. And has put on some muscle since those early years. Even looks like Gunston.

That's it forgot about Mackie would love to see him play a full game up forward these days he allways looks dangerous up forward , and been very good long kick for goal even on the run he can do damage from long range.

I don't think thats too far beyond the realms of possibility that you could see Mackie move forward.

Now stop laughing and hear me out…

2015:
We have Lonners, Riv, HT. Say Enright and Kelly and Bews / Kolo/ Hammer.

Mack goes forward and plays the Gunston role with Kersten / Vardy as the 2nd KPF.

Mack is a racking kick, good on the run, knows ALL the defensive moves there are, reads the flight very well and love a sausage or 10.
He could very well be the swing type that goes up there and grabs 25 in a season.

Also, it gets a youngun down back games while not forcing someone out the door.

Its not my best idea but I don't think its the worst either.

It fits our list structure as well in that Kolo, Hammer and Brown even fit the bill as a 3rd defender, not a monster hugger….

And of course, he could swing back for a period.

Just my 2 cents.

In one word..........why?
BECAUSE.

But for clarity, see post 610 in this thread.
And why not?
Taylor going fwd is as out there as Mackie, and Mackie was recruited as a hff.
He is not getting younger.
Perfect time for diversity and flexibility to be utilised and exploited.
2015 - would you consider it then?

MOST IMPORTANTLY, he is a natural GOAL KICKER. Rare commodity.

So based on last night are we any clearer on what to do?

Vardy? Draft? Trade?

It's a big problem we have atm. I'm certain Brown isn't the answer, still on the fence with Walker and Vardy has injury/body concerns.

I think the answer is pretty easy.

Hawkins + 2 of Brown/Walker/Kersten/Vardy

When we have a midfield good enough to challenge again for a flag all those guys would have had a decent amount of games and we can decide on the best option/s.

Such an important position and we totally neglected it this year cos expectations were totally off.

None of those 4 guys are going to have anywhere near the impact Pods or Mooney had. At best in 2-3 years 1 or 2 of them will be serviceable tall forwards, but that's only if we put a higher priority on playing them, not this 3 ruck rubbish.

We probably finish lower on the ladder but closer to a flag

Vardy's body concerns me. If he gets fit and they play him in that CHF position surely he can't pinch hit in the ruck?

Hawkins + Vardy (if body holds up) + Kersten as the 3rd tall (Gunston or Crameri type player/role) could work, but needs lively small forwards to be able to apply ground support and pressure.

Vardy cannot be an option, he hasn't even played 1 full season is his life, let alone play enough games to hold down our CHF.

Give jake kola a go there, if we keep him in the 2"s all yaer in 2015 , bet he goes to Gold Coast with his twin brother, they will be sniffing... We will offer him minimal oppurtunities and minimal money as thats the Geelong way for the young players.
If I was the club i"d want to have a look at him first, apparantly played more chf than back half in Tassie. Strong body good rig + Frawley will keep him out of the back half

I would also not mind seeing James Toohey get a shot at CHF. He is big and decently quick. He is EXTREMELY raw and young so it would take a while with lots of ups and downs.

One to consider.
