Promoted: (from rookie list)
A.Ramanauskas
L.Mackinnon

What we should look for in trade week and draft:
CHRIS JUDD, lol
speedy skilled midfielders
Running players
Maybe one CHB to develop.

You know what I'd like to see? The hypocrites (who generally blame Sheedy for everything that goes wrong) who say that Bolton et al get games regardless of form, actually stop making stupid predictions like this. The rookie list should only be looked at after the year's finished - not judged purely on "This bloke used to be good before cancer, a knee reco and 3 years off, let's pick him up" and "this blokes 3 metres tall, he'd have to dominate"

I don't think Rama's positive influence on the club and the team will cease if he isn't playing, he has no white blood cells - just black and red.

He's already played 44 games and is turning 22 in September. He does not dominate at VFL level and is always going to fade in and out of games with more out then in.

We've made too many mistakes holding on to players for too long in the past.

If we have learned anything then he will not be with us next year.

Only if we thought they'd be good talls. Smaller players, we seem to be better at judging - look at Winders or Jobe (yes I know he's tall, but he ain't no tall)
I wouldn't mind seeing what Ricky can do for the rest of the year - maybe the last chance saloon will work it's magic, and he can figure out the rest

Key requirements:

Classy Midfielder with pace (either established or already there):
- Judd (of course)
- Dal Santo
- Rischitelli
- Swallow
- Priddis
- Chad FLetcher
- Shaun Higgins
- One of Geelongs OB's

Ruck Talent
- Not sure where this will come from (would have loved Luenberger if priority draft was as it was

Skillfull mid size forward (aka O'Keefe)
- Not sure where this will come from either.

These are the three KEY areas of development. No.1 priority should be classy midfielder, followed by another Ruck to help Hille/Ryder...

That's almost completely different to how I see it.
Midfield is not our problem. We've got enough there, and plenty of improvement to come. Dal Santo ffs. Can't anybody else remember him getting tagged out of games by (perennial BF whipping-boy) Peverill or a guy in his first game? He won't make us a stronger, faster or tougher team. More skillful, yes. Here's a thought - Eagles, Brisbane, and Sydney at their peaks all valued toughness and athleticism over skill. St Kilda did the opposite. Ha ha it worked for them!

The rucks will be OK in two or three years, when Paddy is there. Which brings me to my main contention - the backline. Currently, our backline is two guys who have been greats of the past 15 years, but who are on the way out, and a young ruckman. Still a bit to offer, but premierships are built on having tough, committed and hard-running defences. Not forward lines - here we come back to St K vs Sydney et al. If we don't have a CHB and FB out of Lee, Dick, Gumby and Reimers in the next few years, we're in trouble as I see it. Our midfield will peak in roughly 2009-2012 (IMHO), so we need two big bodies by then. Who are they going to be? Mal and Dustin are gone by then!

btw Andrew Welsh is our best bet for the mid-size forward. Not a noted goalkicker - but then O'Keefe's not either - and runs and tackles all day long.

Hird reitire ,campo reitire
bolten gone
lee gone
heffernan gone
fletch might retire

Nash: good player ,needs more time in the afl should be good player rebounding off the half back line in the future

Dyson:very skilled runing player, with a bit more confidence and some time ,he can be like another jason winderlich

kepler:WILL be a good player in a couple of years ,needs more confidence .
and wat some people dont realise that he is still a devaloping player

Laycock:is a good player ,needs more fitness to run out a game,it was very noticeable against collingwood on anzac day

Johns:he is a good player , he is a main foward line player but when he is playing in the seniors he is third main target in the foward line behind lucas nd lloyd. and it
would be hard for him to the ball with those to in the foward line

Cole:has missed a lot of footy last year, still getting used to the pace of afl again.A lot of talent if he turns out good reliable player during the year i wouldnt trade him but if he just continues his ordinary form i would give him the boot.

but essendon hav a good future with :stanton , monfries, dyson ,kepler ,davey ,jetta , nash ,johns , laycock ,winderlich ,houli ,ryder ,dempsy .

maybe a possible premiership with that bunch in the future

Lot of waffle in this thread
For a start if you are going to put up names to be delisted you could at least try and find out if they are out of contract! Laycock ,Johns and Lee all have contracts for next year so they would have to be traded to get them off our list.
Fletcher wont retire.
Players uncontracted include
Mark Johnson
Ricky Dyson
Sam Lonergan
Mark Bolton
James Hird
Damien Peverill
Scott Campereale
Richard Cole
Jay Neagle
Heath Hocking
Lachlan McKinnon
Adam Ramanauskas
Not 100% but i think Kepler Bradley may also be uncontracted as well.
From the above list
Jay Neagle will be safe as they still see him as being a good prospect in the future.
Sam Lonergan would be feeling the pressure a bit, time is running out for him to impress further.Should stay but is under the microscope all the same.
Peverill's form in his last 20 odd games would likely see him get another 1 year contract.
Johnson would also be under the pump. He isnt getting any faster in his old age.
Hocking is still pretty much 50/50 as far as getting onto the list.
Dyson looks like he may have run out of chances.
Cole doesnt look good for Richie either. Has put in a big effort this year but not being in condition and not much output last year looks to have really cost him.
McKinnon has not done enough to put him on the senior list. Would be a player i would risk letting go and maybe getting him back in the rookie draft .
Ramanauskas not too sure if Rama can get back close to what he was and the hard question that needs to be asked is do you go for a 28 year old who hasnt played much in 2 1/2 years or a young player.
Bradley his form as a forward in the VFL may save him.
Campo and Hird will both retire.

What is the deal with Lonergan? Doesn't seem to get much luck with selection

No he doesnt but i do know he would have played against the Lions instead of Dyson but he had a minor injury problem on the wednesday morning and missed a bit of training that week. He has also struggled with a bit of a hand injury he got in the VFL game against port Melb 4 or 5 weeks ago.
Time is running out for him a bit and if he doesnt get in the side soon then he may well face the axe.

yea Sam is a strange one.

I have listened to Sheedy a couple of times in the past months, as well as reading about an interview Knights did all re our young kids, and for some reason never has Longergan been mentioned, all while performing at least pretty well for Bendigo.

He is fairly young, only a few months older than say a Dempsey, which may get him another year on the list.

But surely he has to be given a chance this season, and then can we judge his future.

ah... that makes it seem slightly less like a Sheedy vendetta then

I keep reading everywhere that Rama is only 26. I can't personally see him being dropped given the efforts we have spent in retaining him on the list whilst unavailable.

Here's a thought.

What are the chances of Jason Cloke being drafted into our side next year? I get the impression he's one of our best in the magoos, and the Sheedy Administration has done stranger things. Before you reply I must say I'm not in favor of this idea, just reflecting on the possibility.

Pondered the same thoughts. With the emergence of Ryder as a genuine defender the evil thought may of been staved off. However if Mal were to retire at years end as others have predicted then it would seem a likely option.

I think we would have taken Cloke if Mal wasnt available.........

Yes, Rama is only 26. Born 19/11/1980.

Given his age, with some descent form at Bendigo, I think there's a descent chance of Rama being around next year.

I don't believe they would have taken the risk with him on the rookie list if they didn't think he could get back up to AFL standard again. All he's really got to do is show a bit for Bendigo.

Yeah i got a year in front of myself. Will start next year at 27. Not sure about saying we put in a huge effort to keep him. All we did was ask the AFL if we could use a rookie list spot. If they said no he wouldnt have been on our senior list.

i agree he would be good to hav another tall who can play at either end of the ground and could sometimes push into the ruck

I think we should definately pick up Cloke at the end of the year. Cloke plus a skillfull, Hard in and under midfielder would be very nice. I think that Cloke would be a fabulous replacement for us for when Fletch retires, he's ready made and would be able to step into the CHB role straight away. I hope he's at Essendon next year!!

I'm not sure if he would play as a key defender if he was to get back on to an AFL list. He seemed to get found out playing there which is part of the reason why he is playing at Bendigo

The way I see it at the end of the year will have several changes

Hird to retire
Bolton to be delisted
Dyson to be delisted or traded for draft pick
One of Cole/Camporeale will go at end of season
One of Lonergan/Peverill and Heffernan to go (at least - maybe 2)
One of Lee / Bradley or Johns to be traded for a draft pick

That is 6 - maybe 7 players gone at end of year with players competing for spots. If Lonergan doesn't get a run soon think his time will be out.

With 7 spots lets us elevate 2 of rookie list and still 5 draft picks or elevate 1 off rookie list 5 draft picks and 1 pre-season draft..

I don't think it will, we need someone to replace JJ soon, and Hislop or Lonergan are the player's who will do this, and you can't just rely on Hislop to do that because if he doesn't workout you need a plan B.

My opinion on the out of contract players is question:

Jay Neagle Keep him still has plenty of time to prove if he has something.
Sam Lonergan Would like to see him given another year to see how he progresses.
Peverill's We need Pev's experience for next year, no way he will be delisted.
Johnson As for Pev.
Hocking Would have to put a question mark next to him
Dyson looks like he may have run out of chances.
Cole Gawn!
McKinnon has not done enough to put him on the senior list. Would be a player i would risk letting go and maybe getting him back in the rookie draft . agree
Ramanauskas Will be played in one game this year and then retire ala the bloke from north.
Bradley will be given one more year.
